SF 49ers have 14 picks in the upcoming 2013 draft ( 1-1, 1-2, 3-3, 1-4, 2-5, 2-6, 4-7).
They can trade Alex Smith to KC to get the number 1 pick and parley their first and some lower round picks into next year for higher positioned first rounder. They already have a pretty strong roster as it is.

Look at it this way, they don't have any extra selections in the first and second and they will be selecting lower than they are used to. The three picks in the third are good, but the 4 7th round selections are nothing more than getting their hands on the undrafted free agents they want to pick up for camp tackling dummies.
The 49ers will have to prove they can find hidden gems at the lower halfs of rounds like we have been trying to do for the last 6 years. Not fun and not easy.

Most of those are late round but they don't have any of their core guys up for free agency. They're up against the cap with 3.9 mil in space next year.

if they win it all this year and CK is the real deal...a smart GM-like BB, Reese-can parlay that into a long run

Yep, could be the beginnings of a dynasty.

Alex Smith is not worth the 1st overall pick...

Even if KC will not bite ( even with Andy Reid who is desperate for a good QB to redeem his humiliating firing at Philly), there are enough teams with high first round pick that are desperate for a proven QB, and SF may be able to package Alex Smith with a a second or third and get a relatively high first round pick.
