Well Fells is on the PUP, maybe there is an injury that may keep him out of the start to the season.  Signing VS is a good move for camp.  Takes snaps away from Gronk and Hern (who gets dinged each yr) in camp.  Backup plan if something happens to keep one of our top 3 out.  I doubt that this will seriously impact what they do w/ Hernandez long term, bc he's nearly a decade younger than VS.
As for a lead back, I think they are really trying to see what they have in Vereen and Ridley.

Fells is PUP'd  ( don't know for how long), Ballard will be I'rd That leaves only Gronk and Hern and a rookie to start camp.
They need 3 to start the season unless you want a repeat of last year. ugh

[QUOTE]Dude, you're a horrendous tool. That literally just broke and now you're implying a 32 year old TE at the end of his career is somehow here to push Hernandez, an H-Back? This is what it means, in this order: 1. Camp competition and reps so Gronk doesn't have to take them. 2. The idea that he's such a fit that Fells would be cut, with them thinking a better blocker in Shiancoe and a solid receiver in Shiancoe means more to this offense than Fells does. 3. He's smart for rolling the dice here than in Philly. Philly needed him more, but aparrently the money wasn't enough for his brain to pretend to tell him Vick is better than Brady.

Would anyone here be surprised if when the season starts that Hernandez is the lead back? Think about where he lined up last season and I don't know the exact number of snaps Hernandez took as a RB but I'm sure that he was an absolute nightmare for the LB who had to cover him from the RB position..Just food for thought.

I was thinking the same thing.

3 TE 2 WR set with Hernandez as the RB.

Or split Hern and Gronk for a 4 wide set with the same personnel.

His goal here is to gain attention by starting drama-ridden threads.  This is another example. He just started one about Welker's hair transplant.  Please, dude.  Come on. Don't play dumb.  This troll spams the bejeus out of this board with childish topics that only a nerdy 14 year old with no friends and a National Enquirer subscription would enjoy. This is a football board. Shiancoe isn't taking Hernandez's job.    Go to the source and focus on why someone like this is allowed to spam this board.

Re: SCHIANCOE is walking thru that door, what does it mean for Fells and Herny?

Schiancoe is not coming in to replace anyone, including Fells. Fells was signed to a 3yr contract Schiancoe to a 1 yr prove it contract and I highly doubt Schiancoe is coming in because they plan to move Hern to WR (given what he'd ask for as a WR or gets tagged) or that he'd replace Gronk.

What is sounds like to me is there is concern over Fells injury or that they want to extra body while fells recovers. Why burn out your star TE's during camp if you don't need to?

To me this is just Scaife all over again. Everyone came in saying that Gronks injury was more serious, or that Fells wasn't going to make the team, or that Hern was being moved. The truth was that the TE core was so b@nged up (seriously can't say b@anged on a football forum?) that they were playing a DL (Silvestro, great name) as a TE. Going into camp Fells is still injured, Gronk can practice but you don't want him going full force at this point, Hern dealt with a nagging injury at OTA's so you don't want to over stress his workouts, Ballard is going on IR this year. That basically leaves you a PS TE you picked off of UDFA's as a guy to give you additional reps and bear the load to play against your D? Schiancoe gives them an extra body at camp and if Fells needs to be pupped for that nagging leg injury they have a guy who can give you some backup time on the field with minimal drop off in production. Other then that it means nothing for the TE core

Depth to protect Brady, Hernnadez (could be extended when Welker leaves) and Gronk. Depth to protect the best TE tandem in the NFL is very good idea. Smart move.

i love how the manza young article was titled "Visanthe Shiancoe settles on Patriots". you don't settle on playing for the patriots, you get to play for the patriots.

I would think that Shiancoe is going to be more than training camp fodder. While he wasn't guaranteed a spot on the roster, you have to assume he will make the team. Is Fells injury worse than expected? I also cant imagine Fells is cut with the money spent on him, but something must be up...I cant see the Pats carrying 4 TE's.
I also was looking forward to the Pats using a true FB in certain situiations. Does this mean that Fiametta or Larsen dont make the cut?

Maybe they are going to PUP fells and decide by the 6th  week if Shiancoe is the guy or to go back to fells?

Extra Points today says he got $1.2 million with $400,000 guaranteed. I can see them putting Fells on PUP and then deciding after week 6.

Re: SCHIANCOE is walking thru that door, what does it mean for Fells and Herny?

Given that hernandez will be used at various positions(eg-RB,Slot Receiver, motion back, split TE)carrying four TE's makes all the sense in the world for the Pats and I believe will happen..Perhaps after a six week spell on the PUP for Fells, who is a much more versitile and capable TE than many give him credit for and the same with Schiancoe.
