The Patriots should definitely sign this guy. He's the kryptonite to Brady's Superman whenever they play each other.

He has already stated that this will be his last year playing in the NFL....he got his wish...he can choose where....6 of the 16 games could be against teams and tackles he knows well and would want to beat...and have a chance for a ring in NE..that's a good selling point...he's going to be living in Texas eventually...but he should play his last year in NE before he goes to Texas..and goes totally brain dead...

My second thought is that it seems to easy. Maybe the Bills told him we will release you as long as you don't go to New England..........Just a thought

If BB thinks he can help the team then he'll take a shot at him.  It then will all depend on Schoebel.

Are you really Tony Eason? (Never know) I would think the Bills must realize at this point they have little to no chance of beating any of the afc east teams with their current roster. They will already have egg on the face when they release this guy and get nothing in return. Probably won't matter where he goes to play.

He can retire in Houston the rest of his life but will have 1 last shot at winning a Superbowl if he comes to the Patriots! Should be a No Brainer!

I'd imagine Schoebel would be a guy BB would want to bring in. Definately can only improve the OLB situation.

Amen, sign him even though it may take a bit of time for him to transition to a 3-4.He would be a huge help rushing the passer as a D.E.when the Patriots are in a 4-3 set.You all are right,Houston and probably Dallas may be after him like a glutton at a buffet

sign him, good depth, great pass rushing threat, we have no one else with that talent at OLB/passrush. (I'm betting he goes to houston though)

    Re: Schoebel Being Released

I just read the Houston paper and it had a blurb.
It looks like Schoebel to the Pats isn't happening.

If the Buffalo Bills release defensive end Aaron Schobel as expected, he will become a free agent.

That means Schobel, a Columbus native, can sign with any team if he decides not to retire and play for a 10th NFL season.

Schobel said this week if he becomes a free agent he would like to play for the Texans.

The Texans can't comment as long as Schobel is under contract.

Just heard on SportsCenter that Bills DE Aaron Schoebel is being released today by Buffalo.  I know Belicheck likes the guy and we could use some help in the pass rush.  God only knows Brady would love to not have him on an opposing team anymore.  Thoughts on if the Pats will try and sign him?

If the price is right, the Pats should sign him...especially since Derrick Burgess is retiring.

While  I agree we should activly pursue  this guy, BB for some reason has not pursued any of the defenive front sevin free agent that could have helped this team. I would be surprised if he is interested in Schebel as  well. I can't figure out some of our recent defensive personel moves, and non-moves

    Re: Schoebel Being Released

Russ & company....No doubt Schoebel could help the Pats in a big way. I couldn't locate any media sources that said Schoebel does not want to play in a 3-4. I did however see multiple sources saying he would like to play and eventually retire a Texan. Even if the money is right and we outbid the Texans, I still think Schoebel will sign in Houston and play out his career there. You can't put a dollar amount on the home team and being close to your family.

So, I don't think Schoebel to Pats is going to happen. I would love if it did, and hope you all call me out if it did, but my best guess right now given everything I've read is that he goes to the Texans or possibly even the Cowboys.

    Re: Schoebel Being Released

Also...Even if Schobel signed with the Pats, it's been pretty well documented in various media sources that he wants to skip camp. So, if he gets no camp time to learn our defense, what are the chances he is ready to play day 1? I guess with a pass rushing specialist you just bring him in on logical passing downs and tell him to get after the QB. I doubt we are going to be able to get him ready for dropping into coverage or play the 3-4 OLB spot in short order. So, not sure what his contribution would be other than getting after the passer and in limited situations.

I don't care if he skips camp - whatever.  WE need guys who can put PRESSURE on QBs!  To get a guy like A. Schobel out on the free market on Aug 4th - when the Pats 'glaring' need is Pass rush right now is incredible.  The Pats should be and better be all over this.  It would be ashame if they don't go after him.

I know!  It's not like he signed Gerrard Warren, Damione Lewis, Tully Banta Cain, and Derrek Burgess, or locked up Vince Wilfork for 5 years.

Forget about Schobel. He said he wants to be a Texan - and Im sure they could use him too. Thats a done deal!
Lets just hope another pass rusher gets cut, one who isnt home-sick.

    Re: Schoebel Being Released

I think he is going south

"...He also wanted to spend more time with his family. Schobel began making that transition when he sold his Buffalo-home this spring and relocated to Texas"

"If Schobel does sign with another team, it’s likely to be one close to his home outside of Houston"

"...Kubiak noted that Schobel already has an obvious tie with the Texans in defensive line coach Bill Kollar, who previously coached Schobel in Buffalo."'

but money can change things and the pats have outbid Texans for bodden already can they outbid colts,Texans and saints (if they are interested).

He never said that. Provide a link where he said that. Money talks and more money and a strong push may be enough to outbid Houston.

    Agreed.

How many times have we heard the "I just want to spend more time with my family" BS?

    Its always about the money.

Maybe he hates the Pats for owning them all these years. Be like trying to sign LT from the Jets. Wouldnt Matt Light hate having to practice against him 3 or 4 times a week  lol.
