    Shawn Springs

Is it just me or is Shawn Springs terrible. He seemed to get beat all day long today. I haven't seen the snap count yet but I am pretty sure he didn't start and got limited playing time even with Wilhite out with an "undisclosed illness" (which I have a feeling is the H1N1) I like the progress of Butler and think that Bodden is a great addition to the secondary but why did we bring Springs in for a 3 year deal? I love the youth and speed everywhere else on the field why bring in an over the hill player in a position that speed is so important. When he is out there he seems to be playing so far off the receiver in order to not give up a big play but his reviever is open on every play. I know that our secondary is pretty young now and someone will say that we need a veteren presence but to me that is an expensive price to pay for a second or third string DB. I just hope they sign Bodden next year and offer Springs a coaching position. Thoughts?

Wow, did we really sign him for 3 years? I forgot about that. When he first came aboard, it seemed that he was only being brought in because he's had success against T.O. I thought he started the year out well, but he has been non-existent recently.

     I 2nd your evaluation of Springs .
He plays slow & soft .
In fact , though I'm sure he's made at least one "above average " play this season...I honestly don't remember it .
( and I TiVo every game and rewatch every snap )

Can anybody recall SPRINGS making a play ?

I disagree - he's a good cover corner in man-to-man.  He's been around the block long enough to not get beat by fakes or gadgets and he's a known commodity.  He is what he is.

I also don't discount the things he can teach to youngsters.

    Re: Shawn Springs

I thought he was only signed for 1 year and he only took the offer if the Pats agreed not to franchise him next year??? I thought he was signed on the cheap and only for a year to prove he still has it and to resurrect his career? I don't think he needs to worry about being franchised and unless he shows a lot more, I think he'd be released at seasons end as well. He can, however, help the newer guys tremendously while he's here

Reiss is saying that with the contract that he should step into the number 1 role. He is far from that role and although I agree that he is a smart player that will not be beat on trick plays etc, he is too old and slow so he gets beat on a simple plays. I agree that he was a good cover corner but now I only see him covering a guy from 15 yards away. I am not expert but I am simply not a fan. Although I would rather have him than the big play (for the other team) guy that we used to have in Asante or the kick return specialist that thought he was the best corner ever in Hobbs. Needless to say I hope we release him at the end of the year and sign Bodden. Bodden Butler Wilhite (even Wheatley is better than him) Merriweather McGowen and Chung (o ya and we still have Sanders somewhere I think) are all great fast young players that make for a scary defensive backfield for years to come. The only thing I would want is the 6'3'' corner with hands and that can run. (Not that these are easy to come by but just a wish)
