Its not about falling in line! Its about the guy CANT PLAY! He is one-dimesional and an overrated self publicity machine. Its not an accident that he doesn't have a long term contract and NO TEAM ever beat down the Charges door to get him!

The Chargers have more hurt LBs than anyone and even signed a new one this week . . . that says volumes about them letting Merriman walk!  Beside wasn't it BB who a few years back taught the rest of the NFL how to take Merriman out of a game?

BECAUSE WE HAVE NO PASS RUSH

No 'roids, no performance. The Giants would be a perfect fit. Every player who retires from them seems to shrink really fast.

I think its probably because we have zero quality depth at LB, but I agree with everyone Merriman is a terrible option.  An egotistical child no longer having the skills to back it up.

If Tila Tequila starts annoying Tom Brady then maybe the Pats will consider signing him.

    Merriman is done.

Pats pass rush gets better every week.

Let's see where we are later in the season.

There are no freeze-dried solutions out there.  The D is young and continues to improve overall.  Give it a chance.

    Merriman???  Seriously???

roman phifer covered recievers out of the backfield... gary guyton/dane fletcher have that role now...  our pass russ is a combination of specifc things....  you could say the jests have no pass rush either... they dont... so they overload and relie on blitzing...   the young guys they have are getting better... pats have never been a big pass rush team anyway

Minus the 'roids, Merriman is the second coming of "The Boz".

Gotta go with the masses here, SM is a has been & not worthy of a roster spot, at least on the Patriots that is....
We have to be PATIENT & let this young group of very talented guys work it out & form a cohesive unit....sure there will be MAJOR swings in how they play durring games but that's all part of the learning curve...even though they played fairly poorly in the second half last week, they still hung in there...the offense or lack there of is what really hurt us....BALANCE on both sides of the ball is the key for the Patriots & the D's development & help keep them from being exposed until they tighten things up & trust each other better..

If he could still rush the passer he'd still be a Charger

One of the reasons we're not rushing with linebackers is the youth of the LBs and secondary. BB is trying not to expose them too much. The more experience they all get the more he'll feel comfortable installing some blitz packages. I know this isn't what the instant gratification crowd wants to hear but we can't continually waste time and cap bringing in old vets that nobody wants.

Can't believe anyone would want a punk like that on our team. And he can't play anymore either. I would like to see a pass rusher drafted next time around though, given that the veteran retreads (Thomas, Burgess, etc) at that position have not worked out, to say the least.

Merriman has 4 sacks in his last 18 games.  There are practice squaders I'd sign over him.

Diminished skills ! Washed up! These are just some of the things being said about Merriman plus he wants a long term contract for big bucks..Gracias but No Gracias...
