    Spikes

What has happened between him and the Pats? He worked out on his own and did not report to some work outs so I'm thinking trouble..now he seems like he has separated himself and is preparing to leave via free agency next spring.

    How did this get broken?

He has been invisible so far.  I expected more from him in a contract year although he has the next 14 games to prove me wrong.

He's outspoken; which doesn't necessarily mean he's not a team player. Whether the comment was made in jest or not, didn't Brady sah AH and BS were "a handful" to Tebow?

I expected his snaps to go down this season.  I always believed they were grooming Hightower to stay on the field in sub packages instead of Spikes.  He hasn't been as much of a factor in the run game this season so far as I expected.  I wouldn't read too much into the offseason workout stuff though.  He did the same thing last year and had a career year.  Hopefully he'll make more of an impact in the next 14 games.

The deck was stacked against him from the beginning.

Belichick drafted him in the second round.

Someone around here had a lot to say about how great the 2010 draft was.

    McCourty:  Good

    Gronkowski:  Good player, bad health

    Cunningham:  Busteroni

    Spikes:  Headed out

    Price:  Nada

    Hernandez:  Jail

    Mesko:  Dumped

    ATD:

    Another Terrible Draft

Wilfork and Spikes really haven't showed up yet.  Not sure if it's just early season sluggishness or what.

I do think BB drafted Collins for leverage on Spikes, though.

I expect big things from him this year.

I agree with you on Collins being Spikes insurance. I am not sure Spikes has ever really fit in on this team. I am fine with getting rid of the last Urban Meyer Florida guy...

What happened is just what BB wanted to happen. He drafted Hightower who isnt a liability in coverage. Hightower has shown flashes of making that 2nd year leap. Hightower has TAKEN over for Spikes in the middle and we arent playing a traditional 4-3 and so Spikes is the odd man out except in obvious run situations. If this D is going to improve, we need to be different. I love Spikes and what he brings, but if we are playing a passing offense(most teams), I dont mind him sitting it out and giving reps to HIghtower, Fletcher and hopefully Collins soon. BB cant afford to pay him anyway so its probably just BB letting a situation play itself out i.e. BB not contacting agent. Spikes is still in contract. IN BB's eyes, there is nothing to talk about. Just play when you are asked and at the end of the year, collect your belongings and move on.

Hmmm...why let Spikes sit and fester then...can we get a reciever for him?

Someone needs to tap Spikes on the shoulder and tell him the season started - this is what happens when you "workout on your own" - you end getting "dehydrated" in the first game. Dyhydrated really stands for...I'm out of shape and about to throw up my breakfast buffet.

Of couse Rusty still believes Spikes stayed down in Florida to work on his agility and coverage skills with renowned speed specialist Emuukha Runfastalot.

Well because teams still run the ball here and there. He still plays, its just that he isnt out there every play now. Last year it seems he couldnt cover anyone according to fans. He gets playing time taken and now he should be gone? If he is a great run stuffer and not so good in coverage, why cant we keep him for run downs? You guys are cold blooded. That would be a mistake to trade him when he is already signed for decent money. I want him around IF we make the playoffs.

PLAYOFFS!  DId I hear someone say Playoffs?!?!?! You wanna talk about Playoffs!?!

I actually thought BB was willing to give Spikes the benefit of the doubt. If he reported in superior condistion, and improved in the passing game, then BB would forgive and forget. But Spkes showed up out of shape and not ready for the season. If replacements were ready to play, Spikes would be sitting in the proverbial dog house. Unfortunately, there are no replacements ready to play

Or "I thought it would be cool to get lubed UP the night before the game to celebrate!" That was embarrasing. The commentators knew he was hungover and were trying to think of ANYthing to let him off the hook and couldnt....smh

on the other hand, if Spikes is expendable, why not trade for a DB for some depth.  I like Spikes. He's a playmaker, even if he can't cover. I figure a big boy like Collins should be able to stop the run pretty good....

What about fletcher? I personally like fletcher and think he could be taking spikes playing time until Collins is greomed. He can play both the run and us decent in coverage.

My guess is that a starting right now the think Spikes is ahead of Collins, or else why would Spikes be starting. Trading a starting LB for depth at another position would not be a good trade.

Considering you just called Gronk a "good player" I just can't buy into what you say often.  Yes his healthy has been some what an issue, but if Pollard rolled up your leg you'd being crying.. literally.  He freakishly broke his arm ok fine.. injury.  However; he is the best TE in the game when healthy, not just a good player bro. Who knew Ahern was going to get arrested?

Mesko is a good punter who was replaced with a good punter, and now Mesko is a starting punter somewhere else.. so what?  That's good drafting still if another team see's his value.

The same is most likely going to be said about Spikes.  He'll most likely start somewhere or at least be a solid back up.

I have no idea how you can call this a bust of a draft.  It may be one of the best if not best drafts I have personally seen on a talent level.
