Still Lots of Value Remaining in Free Agency..

And a lot of teams have already blew their wad with Big Free Agent Splashes. The recent restructuring of Brady's contract could mean they are looking to sign someone longterm(Wes) or that they are looking to trade for a RB, or they could just want more money to take advantage of a free agent class that still has good value after the initial rush on the Elite players.  On offense , its pretty clear we only need RB, and O-line help. On Defense we are ALL EARS at most positions.

I have come across some interesting names that fall in line with what B.B. has been doing so far and these guys seem like they could be on the radar, depending on how they plan on attacking the draft.

Guys that may be brought in that can help, IMO - forgive if any of these guys have resigned and i missed it.

J.Faine - Supposed to be released in a cap move after being paid good money only a couple of years ago. Is Soild, plays C and can play guard. Veteran but not a dinosaur

J.Moss- An under acheiving prospect that recieved some attention coming out but hasnt really ever blossomed. Like Anderson last year, B.B. may be able to revivie his career as a specialist

M.Haggans - Veteran Backer who is versatile and played well in Denver. Could challenge Nink for playing time.

J.Forsett - Young, Shifty RB who has played part time but could be a nice addition to our RB stable and commitee approach. Better than the 30 y/o plus options out there

S.Rogers - Once a Dominant lineman. He is a 4-3 tackle that I believe, if healthy would be an upgrade over K.Love if he has anything left.

R.Grant - Hey, Lets see what he has left. When healthy he has shown to be a big, bruising runner with ability to get outside.

Jo-Lunn Dunbar - Versatile Backer who I think would be a good fit in our system. Young and smart.

Terence Newman - Dont know how things are progressing with the Webb transaction, but more likely Bill will bring in a few vets to compete. Ras and McCourty are guys that could play lights out at CB or not at all. Need a veteran presence other than Allen. May not be as expenisve as some think.

J.Addai - Although often injured, he would have been the better choice over L.M. - has the smarts and ability to play everydown and is a willing pass protector and sure handed reciever. If Healthy could be the lead back for us.

A.Garay - Verstaile D.Lineman that would likely come cheap. Has played all over the line. Can he provide some inside push??

L.Castillo - Has already visited I believe. Can def. help our line if healthy.

M.Roth - Not sure how he did last year in J-Ville, but w/out Anderson and Carter a question mark, we should give him a look.

Any thoughts or additons to the list??

Roth could add some value and replace Anderson, better at protecting the edge

We can get by playing a 3-4 with these 4 OLB's: Nink, Cunningham, Roth, Scott

We would have to use at least one of the two 1st rd picks on a DE/DT who would do very well in the 3-4, as well as a speedy ILB rd 2-3 who can rotate in for spike son passing downs and play in the 4-3

    I like that Idea.

Depending who B.B. can land in the draft and their skillset, I believe will determine how much they can play the 3-4. If we remain a 4-3, we just need a DE(carter?) and another solid tackle. If we play the 3-4, we need a solid, young OLB prospect as well as 1 or 2 3-4 DE's. I dont know if Im sold yet on Fanene being able to play DE in the 3-4, but its posssible. Only B.B. knows what he is gonna do.

Im afraid that the more we do in free agency could, it may move B.B. to just trade down again if he feels we have we have enough roster fodder and there is a chance there isnt enough spots for rookies. I think we have 6 pics that matter. IF he doesnt feel there is room for 6 rooks, he may trade down, but he could also trade up if a guy is there he really likes.

Good point, there will be more guys released and lots of teams have spent most of their money while the Patriots have plenty. I think that Waters was released in camp by the Chiefs last year and he turned out to be one of their best FA signings ever.

Between FA and the draft there are going to be many more to come.

Obviously they re-worked Tom's contract for a reason,be it to re-sign Wes,go for remaining free agents(I encourage them to consider Henderson,as I feel he would be a force at either OLB orILB in B.B.'s defense)or work a deal.I haven't heard anything over the past 24-36 hours other than the signing of Will Allen(which i liked as they really did need a veteran presence at CB,at least in training camp, and he can still effectively handle most slot receivers, plus he is solid locker-room guy and a really intelligent player).Has anyone heard anything involving the Pats recently?

Not sure how much the Brady contract will help signing Welker. He didn't really give up any money. It just shifted the big cap hits back a year. Unless a new Welker contract involved a load of up front money to be put against this year's cap it won't matter.

Re: Still Lots of Value Remaining in Free Agency..

Nate, I like Y.Bell. Its a nice plan B to Landry and he may do better here than Landry would have.

I understand people like Ihedibo, but with the way we play our safeties, he will be on the field if he is the 3rd or 4th man in. I like Chung, Gregory, Bell?, and a Draft pick to round out the depth with maybe a guy like Moore sticking around as a backup CB and FS.

Other than Moore, I dont have any affections towards the scrap heap we saw last year. This is why I think B.B. will still get more free agents and most likely another vet CB.  We have Ras, McCourty and Arrington as returning guys. Anyone else to me is expendable. I dont expect Molden, Adams, to be invited back to camp.

M.Cole will be in the mix and fighting for a dimeback role, possible w/Moore. W.Allen will compete at nickel with Arrington.

Then you bring in a T.Newman to compete/motivate McCourty and if he struggles,. you let Newman take over. If Ras is healthy he is the # 2.

We should carry about 6 CB's. He could also play Gregory as a slot CB on early downs to provide run support and coverage.

Main thing is competition will be good and it will make people earn their spots.

If the Pats signed Welker to a long term deal I think his cap munber would go down not up right?
Hopefully they have a trade in mind for someone that we have no idea about like Moss in 07.
