Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

Hi guys, ive been studying nfl draft for long time and do a mock every re and yes iam a pats fan, im certainly no expert but was right 54 % last yr not bad tell me what you guys think..

     1.  Detroit-   QB Matt Stafford - this team needs excitement and OT dont bring that, although im not as high on Stafford as i was on Ryan last yr so dont expect same results.
     2.  St. Louis - QB Mark Sanchez- yes i know complete shocker but think about it out with the old (pace and holt) so why keep bulger and Sanchez is flying up draft boards.
    3.  K.C- OT Eugene Monroe- They struck gold with Alberts last yr another cavalier linemen, and they have the other weapons in bowe and gonzalez (not going anywere) keep building line for Cassell
    4. Seattle- OT Jason Smith- Protect Hasselbach and solid replacement for Walter Jones (35 yr old )
    5. Cleveland- WR Michael Crabtree- Just to good to drop out of top 5 especially since hes already out of cast, also believe Edwards is gone.
    6. Cincinnati- OLB/DE Brian Orakpo- dominate defensive player that will give them immediate pass rush , and get this hes got a great work ethic now thats a shock
    7. Oakland- OLB Clay Matthews- Just looks like a Raider and always expect the Raiders to reach and do something crazy
    8. Jacksonville- DT BJ. Raji- desperatly missed Stroud last yr, they love Raji failed Drug test or not, i also think hes more of a 4-3 tackle then a 3-4 ...
    9. Green Bay- OT Andre Smith- Protection for Rodgers  high need high value
    10. San Fran- LB Rey Malaluga- Meanest player in draft for Meanest coach, not to mention i dont care about 40 times hes a beast Willis and Rey = Ouch
    11. Buffalo-  OT Michael Oher- Cant afford to pass on top LT replacement for peters
    12. Denver- DE Tyson Jackson- perfect 3-4 end in the mold of Ty Warren for new system
    13. Washington- CB Malcom Jenkins - Lost Sprongs , Sean Taylor, and bailey getting older getting to be area of need
    14. New Orleans- RB Chris Wells- they need a fulltime running back enough of the Bush expierement and they cant just pass every down
    15. Houston CB Vontae Davis- they need serious help opposite Robinson to play tough with indy, this team is on the rise
    16. San Diego- WR Jeremy Maclin- need more of a threat then Vincent Jackson to take pressure of LT and Gates, and Chambers is not awnser.
    17. Jets- QB Josh Freeman- not sold on Clemons , and they already revamped d in free agency
    18. Denver- LB Brian Cushing- versatile LB needed for new 3-4 defense
    19. Tampa Bay - DE Aaron Maybin- pass rush specialist they have lacked since Superbowl Team
    20. Detroit- DT Peria Jerry- most important pos on d after getting most important on offenss with first pick, hes dominant and will be better then Raji
    21. Philadelphia- DT Evander Ziggy Hood- fills huge hole they have been trying to fill for a while since (corey simon)
    22. Minnesota- CB Darius Butler- fills weakest spot on a pretty tough D, no need to draft WR not having QBl
    23. New England- OLB/DE Everett Brown- past history of Florida St rush LB's causes huge slide but he actually has his head on straight and is coachable Patriots reap huge benefit could get 6-10 sacks rookie yr
    24. Atlanta- LB Larry English- they need LB's after losing Bolley and Brookings best left on board
    25. Miami- CB/S Sean Smith- versatile fast palymaker parcells loves, also fills huge need in that Defense
    26. Baltimore- WR Darrius Heyward Bey- tall speedy WR flacco needs, but not sure hes gonna be that good
    27. Indy- OT Eben Britton- desperatley need LT replacement for sudden retirement of Tarik Glenn, great pick for them
    28. Buffalo- TE Brandon Pettigrew- Bills Love him and this pick would take just seconds to make, protection for edwards and potential scary offense TO, EVANS,LYNCH, and Pettigrew
    29. NY Giants- RB Moreno - Solid team with few holes luxury of taking best player on board..
    30. Tennessee- DT Ron Brace- need to fill haynesworth void and this kid is climbing up boards
    31. Arizona- DE Robert Ayers- they need defense more then aa RB for now, and this kid is a steal helps immediatley
    32. Pittsburgh- C Alex Mack- just makes sense very safe pick and fills a need
    33. Detroit- OT William Beatty - first RND talent, would be ideal draft for them filling the 3 most important postions QB, DT, OT
    34. New England- DE Michael Johnson- best player on board continue improving pass rush, by the way ive heard Bill LOVES HIM, and many believe his numbers were down do to system. Absolute steal

E Brown is kinda small for a rush DE/OLB. However, he has polished skills when it comes to attacking the QB.

He would definitely help putting pressure on the QB, but is he strong enough to set the edge and battle biggler OL?

in terms of a bull rush i beleive he ranks second only to English, however i think hes a better overall LB then english and extremely coachable, thats why i give hime the nod... what do you think of the rest of the draft ???

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

You definitely mixed it up a little.

    1. Stafford ....seems like a lock at this point.
    2. I see the Rams taking an OL, since Bulger still has some tread on his tires.
    5. Crabtree...great football player. But I'm starting to think he will fall due to his injury, lack of top end speed. But most importantly, he doesn't strike me as the brightest guy in the world.

    7. Clay Mathews is kinda high. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fall out of the 1st round. There just isn't enough tape on him to justify top of the round money.

    22. Butler....I really like Butler. This is a good spot for him.

    30. Ron Brace....way over-rated. I wouldn't take him any earlier than 3rd round.

Where is Curry, if you want a higher % I think you need to have him in the top 5.

If Coach B did like M Johnson, that probably means Johnson would be a possibility at 23 too.

BB could make him a perennial Pro Bowler.

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

Let me ask you this do you really think that 4 teams are going to pass on Curry? Not going to happen.I also don't think that Matthews is going in the first round. The Raiders will take a wide receiver! Raji will not drop below #8 I have him going to Cleveland at #5.This doesn't make me right,it just offers you a different opinion.Curry will not get past Pioli at #3. Rey Malaluaga probably drops to at least 14 and a good chance he free falls to #23 whether the Patriots are there to choose him is a whole other matter and it's my guess if the price is right they won't be at #23 either way up or down.....I could go on with the cross comparisons but like I said before my mock doesn't look like yours but it doesn't mean its any better than yours is...Good luck and enjoy draft day!!! Go Patriots

MKRCCT, I love your post. I wrote a post a few days ago hoping that Everette Brown would drop to us.  I think that he would be an incredible outside linebacker.  As for Johnson at 34, he is a specimen, but from what I hear he is incredibly soft and unmotivated... If Bellichick could coach him up, though, he would be the steal of the draft hands down.

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

Guys of The hybrid OLB/DE's Brown is more DE but that doesn't mean he can't adjust.I like Ayers he has a chemistry thing with Mayo. The Patriots should be the most fluid team in the draft just because they have 11 picks and no place to put them all, shoot even as we write these threads they signed Kenny Smith as a D-lineman.....They filled so many holes up during Free Agency that they made figuring out what they wanted to do in the draft a frickin mystery or a jigsaw puzzle!!! I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I have no idea which way they will go!!!!! If there is a carnac out there that says he knows within a reasonable certainty I sure wish that guy would also give me the lottery numbers for saturday, because if he's got the Patriots 1rst pick figured out then 6 successive numbers should be a walk in the park!!LMAO

Froglegs, unfortunately, Everette Brown appears to have aligator legs. Good for moving forward, but they turn with great difficulty. He was a DE exclusively in college, and when his lateral athleticism was finally tested this draft season, he failed quite miserably.

He is an undersized DE, but not the kind that successfully transitions to a 3 down OLB.

    arodrambone,

I know that Everette Brown won't fit the 3-4 scheme of the NE defense. As you mentioned he is undersized and kind of one dimensional. I guess he would be a better fit for teams like Indy. Still, I like that guy and his spin moves.Tongue out

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

The fact that he has sshort legs won't disqualify him as a draft choice with the Patriots but it might change his grade from a 1rst round choice to a second round pick. This is the toughest draft because we have so many of BB's former coaches now working as head coaches in other orginizations so a lot of the players that BB likes are now being coveted by his former assisitant coaches and Pioli+Dimitroff, it just makes it harder to single out the players were as before they were the only ones putting a high grade on some of these type players plus they are all using the same method that BB uses to grade them both on the field and in the interviews....

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

1st hint that Belicheck was in love with Michael Johnson, was when he was talking about Gary Guyton last season  and when asked about Guyton he said that Georgia Tech had lots of players on the defensive side of the ball that could fit into the Patriots scheme and he mentioned Guyton , Johnson, DL Jason hill, and another linebacker by the name Griffith or Griffin. 2nd him and andy reid were only head coaches at his pro day and were both impressed, Reminded Reid of Trent Cole, so im thinking that if he gets by Reid and Philly, the Pats will pounce, and i think the chances went up with Philly trading there 2nd 1st rnd pick for Peters. Hope this awnsers the Question.

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

I'm not sure that the Patriots this year have a need that justifies a first round selection, particularly given the draft depth at OLB and their number of high 2nd and 3rd round choices.  I expect that Belichick will trade their first round pick or some of their other high picks this year for higher picks next year. Unlike most teams which have pressing immediate needs, the Pats can plan for the future.

Thanks for the post - my thoughts:

Champ is in Denver - the skins are not taking a DB.
KC - TG was traded today, missed on that one. I think curry is the pick
If Cleveland trades Brandon Edwards where is their second 1st round pick? You have NY still picking there.

The draft is tough to call but its cool that you put one out there.

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

    MKR -

I would love to know your rationale for your Colts selection.  Your blurb about the pick is not really valid.

The colts traded an 08 pick in 07 so that they could draft Tony Ugoh which they did.  It was expected that Glenn would retire.  Not necessarily in 07 (as he did), but likely in 08.  He was a 10 yr veteran who had lost a step by the end.

Ugoh, I will say, is not Glenn, but he is a part of an O line that was injured all year last year that still gave up only 14 sacks (#4) in the league with a QB who was gimpy for about the first 6 games.

the only rationale I can see for taking this pick is if he is far and away the best available player on the colts draft board at their pick and no one available at a position of need provides ANY benefit from the colts perspective.

    Your response is appreciated.

Re: Studying Draft For Long Time MyMock Draft

underdog, thanks for the response, and i should have filled in my comments a little more on that pick, u also have to realize that they view ugoh as more of a right tackle Tarik Glenn was the key to there running game he was far mor of a run blocker then that of a pass protector ,even manning was on record as saying that the team felt his loss more so in the run game hence addai's lowest ypc since joinig leauge, also the fact that manning ws only sacked 14 times last yr is more of a credit to him as a QB then there line as blockers similar situaton  with Brady he doesnt get sacked that much cause he gets rid of the ball quick and can read the pressure, but if you watch both QB's they are always getting the ball out just before gettin nailed. Hope that helps so this selection i chose was to improve run blocking on left side which is were the colts like to attack with the ground game and put ugoh over to the right side of line. hope that awnsers your questions. thanks
