I said it on another thread and repeat it here: Tebow thanking his god after a big win I find to be disrespectful to other, less fortunate players and to religion in general.   Please.  Divine intervention for a football game?!  Really?  That's sad.  A simple point to the sky would suffice. I will say I admire his drive to win.  But this is football and bringing religion or politics into it will stir a hornets' nest.  And hornets AREN'T haters.  They are just people with different preferences and beliefs.

How is it disrespectful to "less fortunate" players? Should we let the Defense that got scored on pray too? Or should wwe just give everyone a trophy before the game then flip a coin to see who wins.

He would have had to point with his arm parallel to the ground for that to occur. Kind of like pointing towards the Alamo or the nearest Hooters.

What happens if Tebow scores a TD  and does is endzone prayer mime but the score gets over turned by review?.
Will the league officials get death threats from Tebow's followers?
If Tebow is being helped to win by God, doesn't that make anyone who opposes him a sinner?

Because many players on the field are also Christian, and likely pray in less visible ways, and not everyone can win.  Tebow thanks god for HIS blessing.  Which leaves others ought.  The equally good, deserving guys who prayed and lost, for example.  Very self-centered.  In my opinion.
I find it disrespect in this regard as well: Thanking a god for his allowing you to do well on the football field takes attention and kudos away from all the other players and coaches and their hard work that was absulutely instrument in your bit of success.  This is self-centered as well.  In my opinion.
Don't hate the guy, just think religion and football don't mix very well.  Like putting a paper umbrella in a pint of beer.

I once prayed that Natalie Portman would come over for one of my pool parties and recite that 45 seconds of the "Black Swan" that was soooo worth watching...she showed up.

    Are you kidding me???

He thanks God for giving him the opportunity and ability to be successful, NOT for being successful. Not even a religious hypocrite would stoop so low. Also, in case you aren't paying attention, his thanks to The Almighty are consistent when he does good or bad. He's NEVER blamed Him for any on field errors, or for his team failing to win.

Faith is a powerful thing. It's obvious that some folks depend on it more so than others. So, who am I or anyone else to demean this faith and belief? He obviously finds it a good thing and it works for him. Well, good for him. We may not all agree on this point, but it sure is nice NOT seeing his name associated with night club shenanigans taking place at 2-3 AM. Or in a police blotter being accused of sexual assault, having a gun go off in his pants, or owning a dog fighting establishment, or even posing, partially clothes, with a porn star.

Some folks can't seem to handle someone else's successes. Apparently, they can't handle his religious beliefs and/or faith either, if it doesn't fit their own ideas or original thought.

In Response to Re: Tebow Calls on a higher power to defeat Jets:
How Tebow uses religion as part of his persona and attributes this belief as the reason for his success is his business.  If one considers him mentioning this in an interview as putting his belief into our face, well, I think you have more serious issues to allow that to bother you.  It is not like he is proclaiming you MUST believe like he does and if you do not you will be damned as we sometimes get from "born again" zealots.  It is the media and the fan base who have made this mole hill grow into a mountain.  There are numerous NFL players who give praise to a higher power for their success, but, it seems Tebow is being raked over the coals for it, to some degree.

Though he hasn't said this in post game interviews, he does say this exact thing when talking to groups of people during missionary service.  I've seen video of him speaking to a group of children and he said something like ..."or you're going to burn in"... you know where.

Personally, I think well of him and admire his seeming desire to be a thoughtful and caring and an active person.  However, this aspect of doing it all because of the fear of damnation and the want of being accepted into a country club in the sky where only the members belong is unfortunate.  It's conditional and divisive, and it's reflective of our worldly habits that insist upon others to be like us first before we feel connected to them.  As opposed to caring for and respecting others despite the differences between.  It's fundamentally flawed on a human level, spiritual level,.. whatever you want to call it.  And it turns gods love into something less than the love many of us receive from our parents, which is not conditionalized and is given for no reason at all.

To your other point, it seems that many Christians are relishing the thought that Tebow is being raked over the coals for it, (persecution/perceived persecution makes for a great rallying call) and the league is cashing in on it.  And the media is playing their own twisted role in the process.

Ya, it's refreshing when a guy doesn't only talk about god after a win.
