"What is the attraction with Foxborough, Mass.? And why does it seem that every offseason, high-profile free agents are drawn to play for Bill Belichick and the Patriots? Today, we try to answer these questions and show that the Patriots are indeed the ultimate destination for NFL players who want to win championships. . . ."

Is New England destined to always get many good players at below-market prices? For how many more years can this semi-permanent football advantage continue?

Paulk that's a nice article, thanks for sharing

And as long as BB is the coach it will continue to happen.

As long as the Pats win championships, it will continue. If not, the free agent stream will dry up.

The Draw of Playing in New England

Julius Peppers announced unilaterally that he wants to play for the Patriots, despite his being a 4-3 end, and despite his being franchised at a $16 million/year price.

In other news, Eli Manning announced today that he wants to play for the Patriots. So did Terrell Owens. So did John Madden, but he retired decades ago.
Continue to win championships? Continue to win championships? Your dumb team has only been to the Superbowl once in the last 4-5 years and you got your asses handed to you by the Giants. Yes, the game was close on the scoreboard but you were dominated on both sides of the ball all day long. The only thing that made it close was a "gift" TD to Moss when the defender fell down. Without that play, the Patriots would have had to kick a FG or end up going for the TD on 4th down and not getting any points. Your team has won squat in almost 5 years. Give it a rest, your fake dynasty (casue you cheated) is over. Patriots are done! Brady will never win another championship in NE. He will be lucky if his knee holds up the entire season. You know teams are going to take as many shots to his knee as they can. No one likes a cheater and everyone wants this puss knocked out of the game for good.
The only place the Pats are going down to, is Miami Florida, 7 Feb 2010, to receive the Lombardi trophy.
Dominated? Dominated? Do you remember the score? What are you talking about? I could see if the final score was 35-10, but 17-14 is no domination, especially with a freak catch after multiple missed holding calls. The Gants were putting points up all over the board, huh? Get real.
Yeah, they haven't won in 5 years, but what free agents are beating a path to your team's front door?

It is probably safe to assume that, after a certain point, players prefer winning to money. I thought the most revealing aspect of the article was Bowen representing that the people who actually play the games recognize the "spygate" nonsense for exactly what it was -- nonsense.

    Players want the rings.

In the NBA, they angle for Los Angeles.

    In the NHL, it's Detroit.

In Major League Baseball they head to New York.

And as long as the Belichick regime is in place (and #12 is still doing his thing), that destination will be New England for NFL players.

only players that go to New York in baseball are for money, want rings in baseball come to Boston. The curse is over, Stankees won't get another one.
