Re: The Jets......(A thread of laughs!)

    Old Rexy is pissed now!

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/17/lack-of-a-cornerback-a-major-issue-for-rex-ryan/

Jets coach Rex Ryan has always been upfront about the fact that he wants a shutdown cornerback on his defense. Ryan loved coaching Darrelle Revis, and Ryan was at his best as a coach when he had both Revis andAntonio Cromartie.

Now Ryan has neither Revis nor Cromartie. Nor any other top-flight cornerback. And he can’t be happy about that.

Ryan was believed to badly want the Jets to bring Revis back after the Buccaneers cut him, but he didn’t get his wish. Ryan’s Jets were also out-bid for the services of cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who signed with the Giants today.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, a friend of Ryan said “Rex is pissed” about the team’s failure to land Rodgers-Cromartie or any other top cornerback in free agency.

Ryan is stuck with the defense that Jets G.M. John Idzik gives him. That defense won’t have a cornerback nearly as good as Revis this season, and barring something unforeseen happening it won’t have a cornerback as good as Cromartie, either. It’s easy to see why Ryan wouldn’t be happy about that.

The New York Daily News reports coach Rex Ryan is "pissed" the Jets couldn't land Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or another top cornerback in free agency after releasing Antonio Cromartie.

It hints at a potential rift between the Jets' longtime coach and second-year GM John Idzik. Idzik may have to try and lure 30-year-old Cromartie back to New York after striking out on DRC, Walter Thurmond III, Vontae Davis, and Alterraun Verner. There aren't any other desirable starting corners left in free agency that fit Ryan's press-man scheme. Idzik could also look to the trade market. Two names that might available are Dallas' Morris Claiborne and Houston's Johnathan Joseph.

    LOL!

Rex RYan has no one to blame but himself. He begged for Ed Reed last year and now Reed still sits on their roster.

Good thing they have 40 million in cap space, though, as RKrap and Bustchise reminded us.

It was just so important that they had that 40 million in cap space which was vastly superior to that of the Pats' cap space. Just oh so important.

Tell us, Queen Bean, what does Ed Reed have to do with Rex wanting a shut down corner?  You don't know that Ed Reed plays safety?  Oh my, what a moron.  And by claiming that Ed Reed is on the Jets roster, are you suggesting that the 400k contract the Jets signed last year also covers this year?  That's awesome!  Idzik is a genius.  Ed Reed had three picks in 7 games for the Jets. And they get him another year at no charge?  Incredible.  But you're still an idiot.

Has your entire cap management philosphy changed Queenie?  Are you saying that the Jets should be spending all that cash they have on a few high cost players, as opposed to spreading it around for depth and resigning key players like Wilkerson (who was called the "best 3-4 DE in football" by Pro Football Focus)?  When did it all change Beano?  Was it when BB paniced this offseason after nothing to show for the last decade of TBs career by not only making Revis the higest paid corner post prime, but needing to dump half of his salary into next year because of poor cap managment.  Isn't this what you continually acused the Jets of when they were a top 4 team in Rex's first couple of years and doing everything they could to make a run.  Now, as one of the youngest team in the NFL with likely 12 picks in the deepest draft in 25 years, you think the Jets ought to be stocking up on high priced vets?  Weird.  Mostly just hypocritical and idiotic, though.

On paper, the Jets badly need a top cornerback: currently the team’s three best corners are Dee Milliner, Kyle Wilson and Darrin Walls. Though Milliner showed some progress at the end of last year, his rookie season was very disappointing as a whole. Rodgers-Cromartie ranked as the fifth-best cornerback in the league last season. The Jets should have plenty of money to spend even after signing Eric Decker and Breno Giacomini.

    Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/turning-corner-giants-jets-battle-rodgers-cromartie-article-1.1723819#ixzz2wG8odVlI

Rodgers-Cromartie had visited the Jets on Saturday and was reportedly drawing interest from the Cleveland Browns -- both of whom have significantly more cap room than the Giants. DRC has 19 interceptions n a six-year career that has also taken him to Arizona and Philadelphia.

          Tough luck, Goblin fans...LOL!!!

Wow...who plays for the Jets now?...oh, that's right, draft bust Milliner and...NOBODY...lmfao...Rex WHO?

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

But...they should hold their heads high....they still have Mr. Funky Monkey himself at TE, Kellen "Vaseline Hands" Winslow...all the young girls love Mr. James (Decker) and all the old middle aged bats love 'old Vaseline Hands" himself
What a disastrous offseason for the Jets. They overpaid for Decker and now can't sign anyone because no one wants to go there, obviously.

Why would would ANYONE want to go there? Why?

Decker went there for money and he had leverage and the Jets obliged.   THen they were forced to resign Calvin Pace, because yet again, no one wants to go there.

Leave it to the Jets to lose out the Giants and Pats in one fell swoop in the offseason.

Throw in Winslow with an offseason for the ages and the circus has set up a residency in Jersey.
So, let me understand what you're saying Queenie, Danny Amendola was a good signing at 5 year 28 mil, but Decket was overpaid at 5 year/ 36 mil when the cap just jumped way up?  What a tool.  Is this where you say that Amendola is better than Decker?

Jets might have to use their first round pick on a CB. They should be able to get a good one but that means they wont be able to use that pick in the SO MANY other ways they could have and need to. And of course if you have that many needs and missfire on a CB in round one that would smack of Gholston #2. We can hope.

         QUIZ:

Just an observation on my part, but, doesn't it appear that Jets GM John Idzik isn't exactly falling all over himself to improve his team through free agency? Though the Jets have plenty of cap room and a ton of needs, he has  seemingly chosen to sit on his hands. This begs the question...Why??

Thus, I invite y'all to take this one question pop quiz that I've come up with regarding Idzik's offseason actions...or...perhaps more appropriately, inactions. Please enter your answers below. Note that explanations for your answers are encouraged, and could net you extra credit towards your overall grade. Good luck!!

Please give the best answer to the options given below, to explain why Jets GM John Idzik has seemingly failed to attempt to significantly improve his team through free agency:

    a.) Incompetence: Idzik could be in over his head;

    b.) Wants Rex Gone: Idzik could purposely be letting the current Jets team wither on the vine, which would give him an excuse to fire Rex Ryan. Like every new GM, he wants to hire his own guy. This is the second straight year that Idzik has done little to help Ryan through free agency. Rex miraculously saved his job last season by leading an obviously talent deficient team to an 8-8 record, while earning the love of his players;

    c.) Waiting For a Franchise QB: Perhaps Idzik has decided that the Jets will never be a legitimate threat to win a SB unless and until they find a franchise QB. Because Idzik wasn't sold by the performance of Geno Smith last season, he's decided to "tank", and let the current Jets team crash and burn, while the offense continues to be piloted by the turnover prone Smith;

    d.) Waiting For The Patriots to Wither: Idzik by his actions seems to be conceding that there are no moves that he can make that will allow his Jets to currently overcome New England in the AFC East;

    e.) All of the above.

Please submit your answer below. Again, good luck!!...LOL!!!!!

TP, based on the article in the NY Daily News it looks like it could be A.

If you read in between the lines and the structure of Rexy contract it could also be B.

Watching Geno Smith struggle with his downfield reads one could come to the conclusion it is C.

As a Pats fan reading into the Jet situation play out in free agency you could reach D as a possibility.

I guess that would be E for me...LOL

Re: The Jets......(A thread of laughs!)

The gnashing of teeth can be heard nationwide from Jets sports reporters and fans, angry at the way GM John Idzig has so far handled their teams' offseason. Here's a sample article:

John Idzik has a plan, you know he does. Except so far that plan has involved mostly sitting on his hands, on a boatload of cash, rousted from a sleep at the free-agent switch only to sign Eric Decker and Breno Giacomini.

It doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a clue, it doesn’t mean he isn’t laying in the weeds getting ready to pounce, it doesn’t mean he isn’t trying to win this year — even if Rex Ryan needs to win this year a helluva lot more than the GM who inherited him does.

But on a day when the Giants signed cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (5 years, $39 million), a player who visited the Jets over the weekend and would have started opposite Dee Milliner, and then dynamic kick returner Trindon Holliday, the natives have now grown increasingly restless inside Jets Nation, and some of them are mad as hell and can’t take it anymore (but they will, because they always do).

When your team hasn’t won a Super Bowl in 45 years, a drought four years longer than Knicks fans have endured, there might understandably be a longing for evidence Idzik is the kind of strategic genius capable of closing the gap on Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

It is difficult to sit and urge Jets fans to chill because I don’t walk in their shoes — I can only imagine their pain.

And I know they aren’t in any mood to be reminded Idzik regards the draft as the true lifeblood, that free agency isn’t over, that the jury is very much out on this offseason.

    Because here’s the problem:

Darrelle Revis signed with the Patriots.

The GM over in East Rutherford, Jerry Reese, has signed a slew of players with far less dough in his coffers.

Never mind that shunning Revis, who may be a $12 million man in 2014 but is holding firm he still deserves to be a $16 million man after this season, was the right move. Idzik and Woody Johnson could not afford to pay any cornerback $12 million, not with all the other holes that need to be filled. Tom Brady’s championship window is closing. There is no window at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center.

Still, March Madness to impatient Jets fans means Idzik doing next to nothing to fill those holes.

Adding insult to injury is the parade of new Giants Reese has brought to Tom Coughlin: guard Geoff Schwartz, center J. D. Walton, linebacker Jameel McClain, cornerback Walter Thurmond III, safety/kick returner Quintin Demps, Rodgers-Cromartie and Holliday. In addition to re-signing linebacker Jon Beason, safety Stevie Brown and kicker Josh Brown.

Try telling Jets fans that oftentimes these big-name free agents don’t work out, after the Eagles captured Darren Sproles in a trade for a fifth-round pick.

Idzik’s best move to date was ridding the oppressive contract and personality of Santonio Holmes.

He still needs to find a No. 1 receiver, two corners, a safety, a guard, a tight end and a backup quarterback, presuming he gives Mark Sanchez the change of scenery he may not realize he needs.

Idzik, even without whacking Sanchez, has $27.9 million in cap space.

Reese, after lowballing Justin Tuck and letting Hakeem Nicks and Linval Joseph go, has $8.6 million in cap space.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, have fortified their loaded defensive line and upgraded their secondary, and while the Bills will miss S Jairus Byrd, deemed too expensive ($9 million), they added a starting LG (Chris Williams), MLB (Brandon Spikes), elite special teamer (Corey Graham), a big back (Anthony Dixon) and re-signed TE Scott Chandler and K Dan Carpenter.

Of course, Idzik also re-signed his kicker, Nick Folk, and his TE, Jeff Cumberland. Oh, and OLB Calvin Pace.

It’s only the middle of March. Only to Jets fans, right now it feels like April 1.: http://nypost.com/2014/03/18/impatient-jets-fans-may-disagree-but-its-still-early/

    In response to TexasPat's comment:

Report: Jets privately apologize for negotiating tactics Posted by Mike Florio on March 18, 2014, 11:27 AM EDT John IdzikAP

When the Chiefs chose to complain about the failure of agent Steve Weinberg to follow through on a verbal deal for receiver Emmanuel Sanders, several league insiders — both from the team side and the agent side — pointed out that NFL teams routinely engage in shady business dealings, too.

The Jets apparently could be on that list, in one specific way.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have apologized to at least one agent after the team misled the agent regarding the team’s interest in a player during the three-day exclusive negotiating window.

Multiple agents told Mehta the Jets engaged in “questionable practices” by leading them to believe the team’s interest was at a level that the eventual offers apparently didn’t match.

That specific accusation comes in an article that focuses primarily on the frustrations arising within the organization regarding the slow pace of G.M. John Idzik in free-agency negotiations.  An unnamed member of the organization said that Idzik “operates on his own time and schedule,” and that the situation is “unbelievable.”

As to the latest player the Jets failed to sign, Mehta reports that the Jets made a “desperate 11th-hour offer” for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but that it was too late to keep him away from the Giants.

That said, the Jets closed the deal with receiver Eric Decker during his first and only free-agency visit.  So Idzik hasn’t been slow on every possible candidate.

Looking at the situation more broadly, the leaks suggest a level of dysfunction that either didn’t previously exist or that had been successfully concealed under Idzik’s leadership.  That could make for another mess of a season, if the Jets get off to a slow start in 2014.

TIME FOR A BLAST FROM THE RECENT PAST...

AND NOOOOOOOOO, REX RYAN HAS NO TROUBLE KEEPING HIS JOB WITH "WARRIORS" LIKE TE KELLEN WINSLOW!!!!!!!!!!!

KELLEN WINSLOW PRODUCES ONE OF THE GREAT NFL ARRESTS  BY CHRISTMAS APE / 01.17.14   |TWEET  |LIKE  95

    mrhappy

At age 30 and following two not very productive seasons, Kellen Winslow is decidedly in the twilight of his NFL career, so it’s too bad we’ve spent all these years making fun of him for the “I’m a fu_ _in’ soldier” quote he made in college. All along, we could have been making fun of him for the time he was caught masturbating outside of a Target in a car full of Vaseline and synthetic marijuana. Had only he did this when he was younger, we’d have a wider array of jokes to make at his expense.

Still, we’ll take what we can get and, oh my, this episode is something to behold.

The redacted incident report from East Hanover police shows that on Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m., cops responded to a call from a woman who said she had parked her vehicle in a spot to the right of a black Cadillac Escalade outside the Target along Route 10 in East Hanover. A man was sitting inside the Escalade with the window open, said the woman, whose name was redacted in the incident report.

As she exited her vehicle, she commented to the male regarding how cold it was. As she stood near the open driver side window of the Escalade, she observed the males [sic] e_ect p_nis.

You know, those statements seem out of order for some reason.

She stated that she believed he was masturbating. [The woman] provided a written statement regarding her account.

By the time police arrived, an officer found Winslow allegedly “slouched in his seat and moving around.” Winslow sprang to an upright position when the officer arrived. When the cop asked Winslow what he was doing, Winslow allegedly said he was looking for Boston Market but was lost.

Such a great year for NFL player weed arrests while they were looking for fast food. Gotta say, though, Dwayne Bowe’s choice of Sonic beats Winslow and Boston Market, hands down (phrasing).

Oh, and Bobby Big Wheel mapped it out for Winslow. So close!

    But wait, there’s more!

The cop noticed Winslow was wearing “dark colored” sweatpants and wrote that “his genitals were not exposed.”

Soldier sent back to the barracks.

But the cop also noticed “two open containers of Vaseline on his center console” and plastic bags marked “Mr. Happy” and empty plastic containers of “Funky Monkey” scattered throughout the vehicle.

Finally, a chance to use the detective skills honed over years of police work.

Winslow allegedly told police he smoked the “Mr. Happy” and “Funky Monkey” at his home to relax because the NFL doesn’t drug test for it, and that he buys the stuff on the internet and at gas stations. Police say he consented to a vehicle search, and after a few items were seized into evidence, Winslow was free to go.

Very important to note that Winslow played out the rest of the season. I demand “Hard Knocks” style footage of the jokes at Winslow’s expense in the Jets locker room. Willing to pay almost any price.

Also, buying weed, synthetic or no, over on the Internet might actually be the dumbest thing Winslow did.

Lab tests that came back on Dec. 23 revealed that Winslow was in possession of synthetic marijuana. He was formally charged on Dec. 30, and last week he pleaded not guilty before a judge in Superior Court in Morristown.

The incident report lists lewdness among the alleged crimes, but Winslow was not charged with anything relating to alleged lewdness.

Merciful but also smart. I feel like the court of public opinion will do a good enough job punishing him for jackin’ it that the legal system need not worry about it.
