The only way the Pats would get Wallace

Let me start off by saying I'm very happy with what the Pats are doing. With that said "IF" the Patriots want to extend Welker before the draft, and Welker refuses to sign the Pats could (probably won't) either trade him for a second this year (then flip that pick for a future 1st) or the unlikely hood of a first this year. So if this goes down the Pats would have two first this year and next. Now if that happens and Wallace aggress to a 9 mill a year contract then Pitt would get or first. Which trading that late first rounder for a future first is the Pats m.o. anyway.
Thats a lot of ifs if that happens and it's the only scenario I could think of if it was to happen. With that said a wr/te core of Lloyd, Wallace, Ocho, Edlman, Gonzalez, Hernandez, and Gronk would be deadly.

avengee, u got it.. better to solidify in every possible way the sure side of the ball we always win at then to spend mad money and risk on the other side where its a crapshoot regardless of what we do and spend. to me, running backs are fine, Ol is fine, Tes are perfect, about updating.. take the one and give it to pitt and pay the man 40m over 5 years.. 8.5m this year so he's not above welk. wes can be ticked all he wants, problem is that he doesnt have the speed, youth and size of a wallace.. period! each player has a unique story onto themselves. u just have to guarantee welk that next season he wont be franchised AFTER u get wallace in place. it means law firm and hoyer are also likely one, but u have to cut from somewhere. i believe we willl get second rounders for each of them so thats a gain as well. a certainty in wallace will more than make up for any losses to those spots.

Calvin Johnson 8 years 132 million (signed 2012)
Larry Fitzgerald 8 years 120 million (signed 2011)
Vincent Jackson 5 years 55.5 million (signed 2012)
Santonio Holmes 5 years 45 million (signed 2011)
Sidney Rice 5 years 41 million (signed 2011)
Brandon Marshall 5 years 47.3 million (signed 2011)
Pierre Garcon 5 years 42.5 million (signed 2012)
Miles Austin 7 years 57.1 milion (signed 2010)

Vincent Jackson is making 11 million per year.  His best season was 1,100 yards and 9 TD's.  Wallace has had back to back years of 1,257 and 10TD's and 1,193 and 8 TD's.  He's 4 years younger so why would he accept a couple million less?  The Pat's should offer 4 years 40 mil and force the Steelers to match.  Even that might not be enough.

    Moorepatsfans,

I get your point and understand that this is very hypothetical, but I think many people on this board are ready to stop seeing threads about Wallace. The Lloyd signing put an end to this speculation IMO.

Re: The only way the Pats would get Wallace

Why on earth would they want to sign Wallace now (if in fact they ever even considered it)? First off, it would use up the #31 pick. No way he'll sign for less than what they can get Welker for on an extension. With the additions of Lloyd and Gonzalez the WR position is very solid. They can sign all the WRs they want, but only one guy can get the ball each play. And if the defense cannot get off the field for 38 minutes a game we'll see the same results. A lot of regular season wins, but trouble in the playoffs when the competition is a lot better. No need to tie up that kind of money (plus give up a first round pick) to add to a position that is pretty well set! Any additional FA moves should be on the defensive side of the ball.

Re: The only way the Pats would get Wallace

Wallace is a pipe dream now with Lloyd signing. Tbh we don't need wallace now. Lloyd can stretch the field as good if not better than ANY reciever in the NFL. Just 2 years ago he and Wallace were #1 and #2 in 20+ yard receptions. So forget about Wallace. We just got Lloyd at atleast 1/2 price for 3 years.  Resign Wes and move on to bigger needs, CB, S, and LB.
