In Response to Re: This doesn't make any sense : Why would keeping your players from before that work against you?  Are you suggesting that the reason for a relatively poor percentage is that the team was so stocked with previous awesome draft picks that there was no room for another awesome draft pick on the roster?  I guess if we followed that logic, all of those players not retained by NE would have likely gone to play for someone else and become superstars elsewhere.

~SO then, WHY doesn't NE trade up more...?  Well, first you answered this yourself:  NY Jets=17 guys still on Team.  NE Patriots=23 guys still on team (and playing on a team that did FAR better than the Jets from 2005 THROUGH 2010).  Altogether, this way works better...  And MUCH better once you consider a great many of these players were Either: Traded...OR unfortunately, players NE STILL wanted but Claimed off of NE's practice squad/or before they cleared waivers to GET to practice squad and make way on to Roster for future...OR they were outright lost to higher bidding teams in free agency...AND/OR finally, In those early '05/'06/'07 years (and even '08), NE was a Superbowl Vet-Heavy team, and these guys just simply couldn't crack the roster (and were subsequently swooped up quickly by other teams)...

Are we done here...?  As usual, I think we're done here.
