For all those asking for the head of Bill Belichek stop! He knows what he's doing and there is no way he's giving WW a blank check deal. There are to many other quality WR's out there to be had and the draft is loaded with top tier WR's. The same holds true for the other Patriot FA's though Seabass would be hard too replace were he healthy but there are questions concerning his health. Talib is getting lowballed by the Skins and from what I can tell they are his only suitors up till now! BB will strike after all the cap friendly teams spend the bulk of their cap money. It's how he operates. Good luck to WW,Seabass and Talib if they can find a sucker dumb enough to bite on a big money deal because it won't be the Patriots. Hello Josh Cribbs your QB's name is Tom F'n Brady call him as soon as the ink dries on your contract. The sooner you learn his idyocynracies the sooner you'll be catching the ball from him.To the guys are presently under contract: Tom Ebert,Holmes and Aikens the door is open here's your chance don't let it just slip away.

Or, I threw high and before that underthrew my one legged, gimpy TE on 1st down. lol

Did Flacco underthrow or throw too high to Boldin on any of his catches in the AFCCG. What about that horrendous underthrow to Jacoby Jones for a TD in the Super Bowl.

    It takes two to tango.

All true, but at the end of the day, no one player is above the team here in NE. I felt BB should have called Mankins's bluff, too. He called Moss's. I wanted Mankins out of here for a 2nd rd pick.

Hahaha!  And how did that Moss decision workout?  They are still trying to fill his spot.  Same thing will happen with Welker if they let him go.  Brady doesn't have the time to wait for the Patriots to fill Welkers spot too!  The release cost the Patriots at least 1 super bowl ring, possibly two.  Do you really want to have that be the case with the loss of Welker?  Come on!  Pull your head out.

Worked out great, actually!  The offense was great again, Brady hadn't looked as efficient since 2004, he won the MVP because of that trade and he didn't toss an INT the rest of the year (barring one at halftime on a hail mary before halftime vs Balt).

Before that, he was staring down Moss left and right to get him looks so Moss could spike his stats and get a big contract before the lockout came. His agent wanted a new contract, Moss knew it, lobbied for balls, Brady was caught in the middle, BB saw it and dealt Moss, wisely so.

Worked great until it mattered most... the playoffs when the Jets figured to play the short field because they didn't have anyone who was a threat to go deep.  They haven't had a deep threat since Moss left and now everyone plays the short field on the patriots.  When the better teams who end up in the playoffs plays the short field then it not only hurts the short field passing but also hurts the run game.  If they don't have a deep threat to spread the defense then it really hurts the Patriots offense in the big games... as we have clearly seen lately.  You don't get this?

I'm going to have to agree with pcm. Though the Pats didn't have any replacement (and haven't since) for Moss, Moss really hasn't proved much since he left so you have to wonder if he would have provided anything here. Even in his final last half of a season (going into the last 1/4 of 09') his production was clearly dropping. If anythin we should be mad that they are still looking for an accetable replacement not that they let Moss go

Had they kept Moss that season they would have won the SB.  And his production was dropping because the pats were phasing him out because he wanted an extension.

In one breath you tell us we have no idea what Welker has been offered or what the Patriots brass is thinkng, and in the next you're an omniscient sage who knows exactly what the Patriots were thinking and doing.

Because it is the same old story with the Patriots.   Easy to predict, and once again they are holding true to what they have done in the past.

As that picture demonstrates, Brady threw the ball exactly where it needed to go. He put it away from all three DBs and gave Welker an opportunity to make a play on the ball. It hit Welker squarely in both his hands and he dropped it.

    Life goes on.

Wow!  What?  Are you serious??  The picture I posted clearly shows had Brady delivered the ball in stride, inside shoulder,  it would have been SB victory!!

If Brady had delivered that ball in stride, Welker may be in a grave right now. Kenny Phillips was roaring over from the middle of the field.

I thought you liked Welker... can't imagine you'd be happy had Brady hung him out to dry.

Should've caught it. Smack dab in the middle of his hands, both eyes on the ball, and he was catching the ball away from his body with his hands, not his chest. Perfect technique, just didn't execute.

What a troll.  Misleading picture and you know it.  It was a horrible pass, Welker had to change his direction do a 180 degree turn in the air and reach to grab a high, wrong shoulder pass.

in real life the QB can't throw every ball into the receivers chest and in stride. NFL receivers are asked to make NFL caliber catches in the biggest moments.... these Giants did it... Wes didn't..

That pass was right in stride on the sidelines.  Difficult catch but at least the ball was exactly where it needed to be to make it.

That's the NFL for you. Boldin made a lot of those catches in the playoffs. Manningham made a phenomenal catch, same with Tyree.

As Godvern said, not all passes are perfect.. this is the NFL and receivers are expected to make tough plays. Welker didn't.

Brady's pass to Welker was exactly where it needed to be to protect Welker while still giving him an opportunity to make a play on the ball.

Re: This is getting RIDICULOUS!! Sign Welker today!

    In response to pcmIV's comment:

IMO here is the bottom line with Wes.  He won't represent a good value for a team that does not have a top tier QB because so much of his game relies on precision and being on the same page as the QB.  Consider the other top QBs in the league.

Peyton already has Decker and Thomas and while Welker would be an upgrade over Stokely given the money Denver just dished out to beef up their O-line idk if they have the space to give Welker the kind of deal he wants.

Rodgers already  has Cobb who does a lot of the same stuff as Welker and is a lot younger and cheaper.

Brees is out because the Saints have huge salary cap issues.

Ryan already has Jones and White and T Gonzalez.  While Wes would fill a different role they need to fix their pass rush and will probably spend money on defense to the extent they have any after paying Gonzalez.

Wes doesn't fit in the type of offense they run in Baltimore and they don't have the cap space.

The Giants already have Cruz who plays a lot from the slot and they don't have the cap space.

The Texans are already paying a lot for Andre Johnson and probably don't want to commit that much money to their WR corps.

The Cowboys have no cap space.

The 49ers just added Boldin so they probably don't want to spend more money on WR with Crabtree already in the fold.

    The Seahawks just added Harvin.

Pittsburgh doesnt have enough cap space.

Washington doesn't have the cap space and wants to bolster their secondary.

So basically with the exception of the Colts (who have already spent quite a bit) and the Bengals there really aren't any teams with cap space and either a top QB or a young and promising QB left.  The market for Wes simply isn't that large imo.

The best analysis I have seen on the Welker situation. BB sees this. WW does not but will soon do.
