Time to stop trying to make chiken salad out of chicken $@*%!

Yes, it is amazing how BB gets his average players to become over achievers but it is not enough to take this team over the top because it always comes down to a solid team of good players, not over achievers, to win a SB.

The Patriots need a legit deep threat and a legit running back.  Lloyd shouldn't be the best deep threat on the team for any team an the running backs are just causing problems.  They need a legit featured back and have Ridley, Vereen, Bolden and Woodhead as a fill in.  Two of these guys need to go and get one real featured back.  For defense, who are we  kidding.  These guys can't cover.  Still not able to turn their heads and make a play on a ball and they are all too short.  Need some solid taller CB's.  Get rid of all the safties, keep DMC.  He might still make it one day.

It's time to tear this team apart and make some real changes.  Solid play makers, not system players.  It's not working anymore!  It's not enough to take them over the top!  And shake up the D coaching staff while they are making changes.

Agree and disagree with some of your points.

Agree about the WR position...Lloyd is a nice outside WR, but he is not a deep threat.

IMO the run game is fine...the Ridley/Vereen combo is solid.

We do need another safety to play next to McCourty. This is the #1 offseason need alongside pass rush help IMO.

CB is fine if Talib is resigned...maybe get one more guy for depth. Dennard was actually great tonight.

I like your thinking. We need players that make plays in playoffs not season stat kings!

I really just think they need a corner like Talib, but not Talib. With his off field stuff and injury problems I wouldn't sign him. I also think they need to get a defensive lineman that can help Wilfork out...Love is not that guy. They have tried, but they have failed to acquire one. The safety spot can only get better and I would personally like to help Chung clean out his locker and make sure he gets to the airport.

other than that we are not that far off, but it takes a lot to get where we are right now...we easily could have some bad breaks going forward. When looking at guys like Gronk, chandler jones and Talib going down...we didn't get many breaks this year either.

I'd be fine with that, but how would it happen? Do we trade up and draft a CB in round 1 (when we could draft a pass rusher or WR instead)? Do we spend money on a big name FA CB (something that we seem unlikely to do)?

Also, the Pats are in a tough spot, because Brady is 35 years old.  What timeframe do you rebuild for?

    Your choices are:

    1)  Gamble on a quick fix for 2013 or 2014 (probably overpay for Welker), hoping to win one last SB with Brady.

    or

    2)  Rebuild slowly (let Welker walk), aiming for steady gains for 3+ years out, but by the time your team is built, Brady will be gone, and without a new great QB, you can't win anything in the NFL.

    Tough choices ahead.

Yes because every team finds starters in the late 6th round and never look for players who can just contribute in some way. Really bad example there

LIsten we can't have all-stars at every position. It's just not realistic. We have the #1 QB, #1 TE, a top 3 NT, one of the top receiving TE's, a promising top end FS, a top end RT and LG. This team has more talent in it's starters then a vast majority of teams in the league. Depth killed them this year in the scondary and they need to find a couple of starting replacements but this a talented team that is putting it together. A couple of pieces would help to put it all together. IMO it's a stable secondary instead of the non stop rotation, an inside pass rusher to take advantage of Wilfork's double teams, a coverage LB, a 3 tier larger WR who can fight for balls, and a better sub or Gronk if he gets injured. You can find all between the draft and FA. It's not like they have to completely rebuild just add some pieces

Well, when you can't find good derfenders despite throwing tons and tons of first three round picks at the issue you have to find them in the later rounds.

Talented? Switch Brady and Sanchez this year and the records of both teams pretty much switch with them. We have no more overall talent than a whole bunch of teams without a HOF QB. And our #1 TE hasn't been there when we needed him.

I think that the Patriots just peaked too early and their injuries finally caught up to them. Also, the Ravens were a much better team than advertised. Their defense stepped up and ours didn't and I guess you could say the same for our offense. The 49ers would have beaten us soundly anyway as they will the Ravens.

Seen this on another football forum..

    Post Season only:
Brandon Lloyd.....12 postseason catches this year.....YAC =.......get ready, sit down for this.....6 yards combined or an average YAC of 0.5 yds/catch
Post Season YAC ranking....tied for 55th

    12 catches on 23 targets....102 yds=8.5 yd ave.....1 TD.....longest catch 16 yds......6 first downs.

For the regular season, Lloyd ranked #115 in YAC with 180 yds but with an incredibly high 50 1st downs. In fact Lloyd ranks 21st in the league with 50 1st downs

Conclusion: It is clear Lloyd is a possession receiver only and should be limited to 3rd downs. He is a very solid #3 WR but how effective can a team be with a starting WR incapable of advancing the ball after the catch.

Re: Time to stop trying to make chiken salad out of chicken $@*%!

TFB 12 man have you seen Ridley's stats this season, he gained more on the ground than Rice, he was outgained by Foster although Foster had 61 more carries for 161 more yards....my conclusion is that they don't come much better than Ridley. I feel terrible for the guy after yesterday even if it wasn't his fault i'm sure it's still eating him up but he'll be back and Patriots tend to learn from the past. This is the thing about today everyone's so emotional  after the loss, in my view we don't need the depp threat in fact we're loaded on offense and I wouldn't touch it, the salary cap is there so that you can't have the perfect team you have to sacrifice one position for another so we can't have a top flight no 1 reciever if we're going to have any shot at solidifying the defense. The good thing is it's not far off, Talib's departure yesterday was a major turning point we either need him healthy or we need to improve the general level of play of the secondary with other pieces also and it's been the problem now for so long it's becoming silly. We need a pro bowl pass rusher, if we have a pass rusher and Talib we have a top 16 D I guarantee it! Put the game in perspective the team couldn't put the ball in the end zone in 2 of 3 first half trips to the end zone and 5 of 6 for the game, they could have been 2 scores up and moving out of sight but they couldn't. Bottom line is the team played an awful game today at the worst time. All this losing to a better team stuff is BS it's another year wasted but this is how hard it is to win the superbowl. As well as everything else involved in the game you needed the roll of the dice as well
