Seriously, I'd love to see a D player get it like Watt but its pretty much an O award

Aaron Rodgers will be the front-runner by the end of the season.  He leads the league in TDs.  GB has underperformed, but that is more a reflection of defensive letdowns and the bag job in SEA.  I don't care who gets this award as long as the Lombardi trophy comes back to Foxboro.

At the end of the season I would love to see Welker win it but it will go to a QB.  Right now it has to go to Ryan especially since they are undefeated.  I expect that Brady and Rodgers will be in the hunt for it come the end of the season and Ryan stumbling along the way.  But don't count out Peyton since he has pretty much exceeded everyones expectations and is having a very fine season too. Eli, not sure where he fits in.  Theres no doubt he belongs in the conversation but he seems to get over looked by a lot of people when talking about this stuff.

I can't see Briggs winning the award. He's good, but the rest of the Bears defense is playing at an exceptionally high level too. If Briggs got hurt, I still think the Bears would be a very legit defense. He does take them over the top though.

 

I don't think Eli deserves it either. Poor showing today, poor showing most weeks. He's prob the most valuable playoff player though.

 

Forte is having a good year, not great though. He's not winning games for the Bears, that defense is.

 

Don't see Welker with much of a chance either. Brady will always be ahead of him in the casting.

 

Brady, Manning, Ryan, Rodgers and Watt are the only true contenders at the moment. If I were to rank them right now

1. Ryan

2. Watt

3. Manning

4. Rodgers

5. Brady

 

The thing that brings Rodgers and Brady down for me is their record. I do think Rodgers will nab himself offensive player of the year this year.

Manning, statisically, is not having as good a season as Rodgers and he has the same record. That being said, he turned a pitiful Denver offense in 2011 into a juggernaught. Don't think he'll get the award though, I think they would just give him comeback player.

 

J.J. Watt does more than any other 3-4 DE in the game. A guy like Rodgers is great, but there are probably 3-4 other QBs playing at a similar level as Rodgers. Don't know if you could say the same about Watt's peers. He plays well in both the run game and pass.

 

Matt Ryan gets it by default because his team is undefeated. I'm not even sure I would put him in my top 5 if he had a loss on his record. He's played well, but I dont think as well as Brady, Rodgers or Manning. You give him that defense that Bree's has in NO, and I doubt Ryan would have his team above .500. (I feel like the defense bailed him out in the Oakland and Denver game. Cam Newton's bonehead fumble cost Carolina the game. And RG3 getting hurt in the skins game really helped)

 

That being said. I think the selection process of the MVP is wrong. It's a combination of what your record is and who has the best stats. I don't think Matt Ryan is more valuable to his team than Drew Brees.

To me, the top 3 contenders should be Brady, Brees and Manning. Hate that its all QBs, but theyre the most important position in the game.

Brees: Without him, this team is no different than the KC Chiefs. The Saints are a pretty horrendous team. But they have a shot to win every week, and that's because of Brees

Brady: To a lesser extent of Brees. You put 2008 version of Cassel on this team and they lose every game but the Titans and Rams. 

Manning: The way you look at this Denver team compared to last years is completely different. Thats because of Manning. Thomas and Decker look like all pros because of him.

Rodgers is a close 4th. But I think the GB defense/st is slightly better than the above three. (Won them the CHI game and shouldve won them the SEA game)

 

Watt falls out because I thought he had a good game against GB...but his team still gave up 42 at home. His position is not as indispensible as a QB. I hope Watt can find a way to win it though. Tired of it being a QB award
