That would be a funny trade as the position which Mankins plays is Guard not Tackle, why do I say funny because the job of a good Guard is to escort the RB through the line and help spring him into the open. yes he has pass blocking responsibilities but not nearly as important as his run blocking responsibilites.

Hell no!!! Why would you want to see the Pats get an aging, dinged up RB?? Don't they already have enough of them? A good OL makes a good RB...not the other way around.

If Mankins is to be traded, let it be for at least a first round draft choice.

uh, Logan Mankins is 28, Steven Jackson is 26 and has rushing record that is signficantly better than anyone currently on the Patriots roster:

How about hell yes!  Steven Jackson would have a major impact on the Pats offense.  If he can put up those number on a sucky Rams teams, imagine what he could do for the Pats.  Right now the Pats need a stud RB for any serious SB run.  Steven Jackson could be a difference maker.

Sadly, I thought this was a joke. I figured it had to be a sarcastic jab at some of the less intelligent posts that seem to be cropping up with greater frequency. But, no, it's serious. This is amazing. Leon agrees with you. That should tell you something.

First of all, the Patriots Oline is not very good. They can't protect Brady or get anything going on the ground. So you want trade it's best player (making the line weaker) for a running back- who will then have even less of a line to run behind. Did I get that straight?

It's like selling your car to get gas money. It's so idiotic that I wasn't even going to address it. But I'm starting to get pi$$ed off at these countless "Let's pick up that guy. Who cares if he's a dirt bag" posts. I half expected there would be a contingent here pining for Big Ben when he first went on the trading block.

How is Jackson even a question? This loser was "accused" of beating his pregnant girlfriend bloody. Then told her to tell the police she fell in the shower. He didn't have enough remorse, dignity or stones to man up and take responsibilty for what he did. COWARD.

What is wrong with some of you, that you are willing to root for anything in a Patriots uniform? Is there a line anywhere? What if he raped 17 children and then got pardoned? Would you still want him then? Actually, don't answer that. If you could watch that piece of garbage in a Pats uniform and not want to  p uke, you have serious problems.

And lastly, when are people going to get it through their thick skulls? The Krafts have made their stance on domestic violence EXTREMELY clear: zero tolerance. Myra Kraft particularly. They are never going to let Bill sign a guy like Jackson. It's the same reason there was never any chance of Brandon Marshall coming here.

I'm not expecting a team full of choir boys. I realize that most pro athletes are arrogant, self entitled aholes.I'm not under the delusion that a lot of these guys are good, or even nice, people. But at some point you have to draw the line. I say a gutless punk that beats up his pregnant girlfriend and then hides like a little sissy, is a good place to start.

I too am tried of the get this guy he would be awesome type of posts.  I don't mind one time to time but it seems to more frequent these days.  If you guys are going to post stuff like this first follow the critieria.

The Krafts care about the image of the Patriots.  They don't want it tarnished in any way shape or form.  They learned a lot from the Parcells mess and the one that Grier left.

Belichick knows that all problems with the football team come to him.  He has to respond to the stupid.  He doesn't like doing that and I'm surprised the some coaches put up with it.  Belichick isn't going to want a player that will cause a distraction or in other words give him a problem that's not a football problem.

Re: Trade: Logan Mankins for Steven Jackson!

i doubt that the rams would agree to this trade. It would have to be mankins and a pick due to the fact that he is a guard not a tackle.  while i would love to see jackson in a pats uniform and i do believe that our O-line coach could replace mankins on the line with one of our rookies/backups i think we need mankins this season to keep brady upright.  Plus the rams would have to be stupid to make a trade of one of the top 5 RB's in the NFL who is signed till 2014 for a probowl guard who only has one year remaining on his contract and obviously wants 8 million per year with no guarantee of resigning him to a longer contract.

Uhhh....Jackson is a RB with an incredible amount of mileage, despite his age. Mankins is a pro-bowl OL...playing for a team with a mediocre OL, and a Hall of Fame QB...that badly needs to be protected.

Incidently, Jackson turns 27 in a month. The shelf life for a workhorse RB usually expires at around age 29....while a good offensive lineman at that age is still performing at a peak level.

I'd say he is closer to average than he is to being great. And being selected to the pro bowl is overrated IMO. Evans is over paid too, but they had to sign him. I hope the Pats dont cave-in. Mankins is looking like donkey right now and I hope they trade him. There are too many impressinoable youngsters in the wings now and we wanna a team that focus on winning not $$$$. Hell, even Moss(i know Moss is on his 3rd or 4th contract now) isnt griping. Wilfork made his position known but show up for the Mandatory stuff. Let him sit the season out if he wants and maybe he'll make that much by joining the rodeo or a circus.

Jackson's already at that "tipping point" that many NFL RBs reach--after that 5th season, it's all a crapshoot, and Jackson just completed Year 6.

Besides, BB would take the draft picks if he were to trade Mankins--those are "currency" to him, and he'd use them to move up and down the board next April, and perhaps to acquire a veteran player or two in trades (that's how Corey Dillon came here--extra 2nd rounder from a previous trade was sent to Cincinnati).

Re: Trade: Logan Mankins for Steven Jackson!

This would only make sense if Mankins was a franchise LT. Why would the Rams get rid of their best offensive player for a guard ? It's not happening. A more likely trade scenario would be to the Rams for what would be a high 2nd. When you draft a franchise QB, you normally start to acquire skill players that help him develop quickly; you don't get rid of skill players that ease the transition (eg: Jackson). Saffold and Jason Smith were drafted to protect Bradford, acquiring Mankins at such a high cost would make no sense at all. Name one team that would trade their best player for a guard (not the Raiders). The person that mentioned Jackson is a bit of a dirtbag is correct; neither Myra or Robert Kraft would want this guy on the Pats. Some people need to realise that NFL teams are not built like NFL Fantasy Football teams....they just aren't...

I wouldn't trade him because that's what he wants.  Make him play for whatever the rules say and if he refuses, so be it.  See him in week 10.  Can't cave in to this kind of demand.

Right you are. My guess is that if the Pats really wanted Jackson, they could get him for less than a #1 pick. Mankins is worth at least a #1 pick.

I see some people here are actually believing that BB would use a top 10 pick on a RB...Ingram from Alabama. That's ridiculous. It's been proven time and time again that very good RBs can be had much later during drafts (Marion Barber, Brandon Jacobs, Terrell Davis, Michael Turner, Frank Gore, Curtis Martin). Top 10 picks should be used on elite defensive players.

And I suspect they will continue drafting defensive players with that high pick.  Ingram isn't even ranked that high and RBs as a whole are taking hits because it's like you said.  Good RBs can be found later in the draft.  So the OTs, DTs and DEs will be high as always.

If I had Jackson I would not trade him for a guard.  It doesn't make any sense to me.

Re: Trade: Logan Mankins for Steven Jackson!

Maroney is a serviceable back that can help the Pats win games. This is where Mankins' value shows. He wants 8 million dollars, but he isn't worth a first rounder or a skilled positioned player (WR, RB, CB).

Mankins is underrated at an overrated position.
