Vereen creates all kinds of match up issues.  Saw some very well designed plays to take advantage of them.

    by accident

this wasnt planned. woody was teh planned game plan and gronk
Matching up Vereen against a LB was absolutely not an accident.  It was precisely as Beantowne points out.

With his speed and the other weapons we have he may be hard to cover out the backfield.
at this point wiht what we have at wr, id start with him at wr and ridley in backfield.

hes the only "wr" we have who can separate
Does he run set routes? Does he have the ability to adjust to what the defense gives him? It might not be as easy as you think.

We're going to need him in the backfield now woody might be hurt.  Bolden will need to find a role.  Vareen should at least be the 3 rd down back.

He was at Cal. He always has been. Watch him there, if you can find it. He was amazing split wide and on wheel routes.
What was amazing is that every time they split him wide they created a mismatch. Houston had no choice but to cover him with a linebacker. The  Pat's did  nice job of getting mismatches when they went empty backfield.

We haven't seen the RB really challenge from that wideout position since Faulk. They flex the RB out a lot, but until last night the RB hasn't been a big threat from that flexed position (at least since Faulk got old).

If you did not look at his college career and game footage you might not know that he ran pass routes in college. He is a fairly developed receiver as RBs go and clearly also has hands. All this was part of why I was thrilled when we picked him and why I actually had expected him and not Ridley to be the feature back in a TB offense. He can run and catch and is dangerous.

With Ridley being so good it will not be a one back offense with some relief from the bench. It will be at least a two headed unit plus Woody if he gets healthy and plus Bolden for some relief and depth and power. Unless we get Jackson in offseason in which case Bolden may be let go and we have three main guys plus Woody.
