What happened to the agressive Defense?????

The defense looked very agressive the 1st two games and fell completely off. The pass rush was terrible last night. I like the agressive look for the team. I can't wait for Bodden's return and to see what Ras I looks like on the field. I'm glad it was only pre-season. -

BB played a vanilla defense against the Lions for the most part they were in a base 3-4 throughout the game. He was evaluating his DB play from the 3-4-4 defensive alignment and he found out that after Chung and McCourty there really wasn't much in the way of man to man coverage coming from the others. Also they played this game with very few of the actual number 1's on D-line. -

from the first 2 preseason games he learned what his passrushers can do (blitzing 48% of the time) in the lions game he blitzed around 20%. he didn't want to give too much tape to the dolphins of our pass rush movesin a game that doesn't mean anything. -

He probably needed to reinforce the fact that the 3-4 defense doesn't work in the NFL anymore. -

he got his proof that the old D needs to be scrapped, i feel like BB did the ole ''make them think you are weak when you are strong'' trick. -

Watched the first two series of that game and it didn't look like we sent as many people in the pass rush as the previous 2 games. -

sports again, you say after chung, however chung cannot defend passes ie play man to man, he can simply tackle a guy after he catches a pass.
for that matter mccourty cant do much of that lately. hopefully he returns to form -

hey nate, been hoping that was the case too.
even given that we got beat in so many of our matchups.
proved we are terrible in last years formations with the personnel that played.
i hope we see none of it this year.
forget disguising it once the season starts, let our best players be in their best formations and don't change until it proves ineffective. -

You know, I think others on this board and in the media have said that they got the ball off quick; defeating any pass rush. And that is the key to defeating a pass rush. Even the 85 Bears (those %$## &%$%@#) couldn't beat Marino and his quick release. Not saying at all that Stafford or the other QB's are Marino, but they did get the ball out quick. Stafford got it out real quick. Stafford's average release time was 2.07 seconds. 7 passes got off in under 2 seconds. Don't be so certain that our other players who stayed home would have made that big a difference. Give credit where credit is due. The Lions expected pressure, and got the ball off very quick. We can blame this one on poor coverage. -

Maybe they wanted to see how the secondary looked in one on one matchups. Not so good, but that's why you can't look too deeply into the preseason. Probably running the same play with this receiver- then that one, to see who runs it better. With one set of safeties, then with another. Repeat over and over, look at the tape see who did best in what circumstances. -

At least some posters on here understand what the preseason is for. Why can't some people understand that preseason is for trying certain plays with various players and analyzing the results. Does anyone actually think that BB would have that Detroit game plan in the regular season. People need to watch the game on dvr and try to analyze each play. It was all about testing various player combos with various offensive and defensive play calling. BB then looks at the tape and makes his decisions. -

you cant sugarcoat it with excuses.
their starters, backups and third stringers beat ours in many matchups all over the field. take the medicine and make adjustments, personel changes, coach players up better to help them improve where that's possible, etc. -

brdbreu,
Do you honestly think the lions would still dominate the game the way they did if the game meant something? That was a SB game for the lions and the Pats considred it no more than what it was....preseason game. The only concern that I formulated from that game which i've had for the past 4 years (since the 07 SB lost), is that the Pats continue to demonstrate that they no longer a good second half time as they used to be. It appears to me that since 07, they have predicated their game plan to jump on the opponent early and make them play from behind. And when that doesn't happen, they usually lose the game. -

I dont understand why everyone wants Chung to be Deion Sanders. He is a safety, thats his job to make tackles after they make the catch and he does a dam good job of it. Bill expects a lot of his db's and sometimes ask his saafety to cover, but traditionally safeties hit. Look at Milloy who everyone loved for his hitting. He couldnt cover slow tight ends, and we expect CHung to cover # 1 receivers...I think he covers pretty well for a safety. Go look at guys like Bernard Pollard and their coverage ability and then you will appreciate Chung more... -
