In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing? : You can say all you want about the best defense in the league. It is true. But at the end of the day, in the second half of the game against the cols you could not stop Peyton Manning. Until you can do it in the playoffs consistently then it is just statistics. The new corner will help because Lowery was horrible against the Colts. People will be gunning for you know any you wont fly under the radar.

True that, they haven't proved anything sure they are tough on paper but are they winners?

Personally, I think you two are crazy. Miami had the best FA offseason and NE had the best draft.  Miami is more of a threat than NY, and I am not sure if we agree there.

DOesn't matter. The AFC East has improved and it's a QB league. And it's a coach/management league.

I'll take BB and Brady all day long and twice on Sundays over any COach/GM/QB combo in the league.

    Period.

Two years from know all the younger fans who think this is fantasy football willl look back and realize how methodical BB has been and how desperate NY and Miami have been, with the latter organization more methodical NY.

Parcells is a solid GM, but one thing has never done is put an onus on intelligence.  And it's hurt him with players he drafted in Dallas and it will in Miami too.

I would not be surprised to see Faneca in Detriot.  They need linemen to protect their QB in a big way

I guess they didn't see Clayton who panned the picks and the philsophy.  The Jets running game is clearly diminshed.  I don't see how that's a good thing.

The Jets have made some splashy additions, and have also had some costly departures. Most GMs wouldn't go near Holmes and many who didn't want Cromartie.  Then we have the cooked gooses Taylor and LT.  I guess it sells seats, but overall it's very underwhelming. Especially when you look at the loses.

In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing? : The Pats fan draft grade website doesn't really count as a legitimate assesment. Most give them a B, not bad for four picks.  Pats 12 picks got them a B.  The beauty is that you won't know for a few years. Except of course, Cromartie, Braylon Edwards, & Holmes (3rd, 3rd, 5th round choices) We know what they are and there is not a GM alive that wouldn't take those players for those picks.  5'8" ?  Read the bio, moron.  Faneca is old and declining. Leon is coming off a serious injury, was a non factor last year and has been a contract whiner for 3 years.  Lots of tough decisions to make.  We do know this, when you sit back and do nothing and when you don't upgrade players before their skills expire, what you end up with is the Pats.    A team that absolutely needed the 25 picks + in the last 2 years and still did not get a Revis, Mangold, or even a David Haris in the bunch.   How did you find out about the Jets next offseason plans and not know what they were planning to do this year?  I wonder if they will trade their best defensive player because they are too cheap to pay up for talent?
    Posted by bjesuss

If Faneca is "old and declining",  why in god's name did they give him that much money 2 years ago, when he left Pittsburgh for money?

Does this mean Damien Woody is old and declining?

Is 36 year old Jason Taylor capabale of covering a TE? Is he capable of stopping the run as a 3-4 OLB? I find it comical that just a few months ago people in NY are pumping their chests about their #1 rush offense as a . 500 team and a QB who throws 20 INts to 12 TDs with that kind of protection, and now all of a sudden, Faneca, a Pro Bowler, is "old and declining".

Can Jets fans be any more deluded?  It's amazing.
Hypocritical much down there in Jets land?  Have you read a book no how to manage from a bussiness standpoint? Somehow I don't think so, kid.

Aren't Ferguson and Calvin Pace up for deals after this season? What about Edwards and Holmes?

Umm, I think they are.  How many draft picks did NY hit on this year, do you think? How many picks do they have next year?

Will Bryan Thomas and Ellis be the next to go?

Do the Jets have more 2011 picks than NE in Round 1 and ROund 2?  Hmmm.

You just don't get it. When you pay that much money to a certain position on the roster, you better be improvbing your season by 2 -4 wins.  Who replaces Jenkins?  Will Jenkins be healthy for a full season for once?

The NY Jets are a .500 team.

I don't know how old you are, but your posts are littered with contradictions and make very little sense.  Apparently, people agree with me a lot more than yourself.

Apparently you missed how to build a dynasty this past decade. It's about building a team, not overpaying desperatley to try to sell PSLs to your new stadium and dupe your fanbase, but you enjoy that approach.

Good luck in summer school this year.

In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing?:
In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing? : Put the crack pipe down.    QB - Sanchez is mediocre at best.  Never has a totally ineffective rookie been so overhyped.  RB - If SD offered Jets fans LT and a fifth round pick for Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, would any of them had taken that deal last year?  Well, your FO did.  Major drop off.   WR - You already had Edwards on what should have been at best an 8-8 non playoff team (sorry but two teams rolling over and playing dead did not go unnoticed)  Holmes is a good pickup, but Sanchez iis no Big Ben.  You also have the most troubled WR team, we will see how that plays out. OL - Faneca is gone.  OL just got weaker. D - Taylor is ancient and his effectiveness has steadily declined.  Not a big deal.  Cromartie - are you kidding?  He was practically run out of San Diego (I know, I live here as a transplanted New Englander).  After a great rookie year, he consistently declined in on field performance, locker room impact and off field problems.  Fans hear were THRILLED to get a 3rd for him.  You lost two DBs. So the Jets added one troubled WR but diminished your running game which puts a lot of pressure on an overhyped and unimpressive QB.  You added a geriatic lineman and a CB cancer, while letting a couple of DBs from your top ranked D leave.  Where is the big gain? The Pats, who did win the division after all, immediately upgraded at TE and punter, improved their blocking with Crumpler, added lots of new potential at WR (Tate, Price, Edelman along with a Taylor like signing of Torry Holt), and acquired some potential depth at CB, ILB, OLB, and DE.  Oh yeah, we also have two firsts and two seconds next year to go get a stud RB, WR, or DE. In summary, a Jets team that should have been an 8-8 also ran made splashy but unimpressive moves.  They lost ground to the Pats whose pickups will actually improve the team now, and in the future.   Its why BB runs the dynastic Pats, and your latest clown runs the forty years and counting Jets.

Re: What the heck are the Jets doing?

Another fan who took the bait.

I bet Sanchez throws 15 TDs this year and has 25 picks. He's Jay Cutler.

Pretending losing 6 staright last year with the #1 rush offense and defense to protect you, is somehow relative to Mark Sanchez as a successful rookie QB is hilarious.

The only thing he got was experience.   He got his by starting and being able to back into the playoffs where is O Line and D won those games.

He had NO PRESSURE on him to even make the playoffs. But, when Indy laid down and Cincy laid down, that took them from 7-9 or 8-8, best case to 9-7.  That's a .500 team.

I am not even convinced the personnel they'll field in September is as good as what they had last year anyway.

    If you give Tom Brady a #1 rush offense and a #1 D and it's basically 19-0.

Flacco and Matt Ryan, both better QBs than Sanchez had better rookie years and also had sophmore slumps.

Expect Sanchez, now under pressure to win a Super Bowl,  not to progress, but regress.

Even Tom Brady struggled his second full season.

The AFC title game was a mirage.  It's funny for  me as a Pats fan because Jets fans will be confused as to what happened come January.

Re: What the heck are the Jets doing?

I always like to compare the player a team gets vs the player they have to let go.

    RB

    Get: LT
    Gone: Jones

    Get: McKnight
    Gone: Washington

    WR
    Get: Holmes
    Let go: (pre-season cut)

    G
    Get: Ducasse
    Let go: Faneca

    OLB/DE
    Get: Taylor
Gone : rumored Ellis and B. Thomas

    CB
    Get: Cromartie, Wilson
    Gone: Sheppard

    S
    Get: Pool
    Gone: Rhodes

    K
    Get: Folk
    Gone: Feely

Really I don't mind one bit the Jets being the paper champion. Get the Pats out of the offseason spotlight. Just how I like it being a Pats fan.

In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing?:
In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing? : Kyle, you beat me too it.  I was going to draw the same comparisons.  The Jets did not improve significantly in the off season.  Thomas Jones is better than Tomlinson at this point in their careers Washington is proven, McKnight is injury prone Fanecca is a beast with tread left.  Ducasse weakens the line at least this year Jason Taylor is on the back nine Holmes was an upgrade but could be a head ache too. Wilson upgrades their return game and their already amazing secondary Losing Rhodes and gaining Cromartie is a wash With just 4 draft picks, the Jets did not get any younger.  Their OL isn't as good.  Their DL wasn't really improved.  They are thin at TE. The Dolphins on the other hand made some moves. Getting Dansby was huge. Getting Marshall was huge. They had a solid draft.  Add Misi, Edds and Odrick to that defense is scary.  Their LB corps are as talented as there is.  They have a talented young secondary led by Davis and they added Rashed Jones at S. John Jerry will improve their interior OL. I think the Dolphins pass the Jets this year.  I think we stay on top given our draft.  Our new TEs will be amazing.  Spikes will bring attitude and run stuffing to the center of our D.  The combination of Price/Tate/Holt/Patten solves our #3 WR need for now.  I wish we did something at RB but I guess we think we can get one more year out of these old horses.  McCourty will be an immediate impact on special teams and could beat out the other young CBs.  While we don't have a dominate Seymour-esk DE, we added some proven veterans that more than make up for the loss of Green.  We have THREE THIRD ROUND picks from the last 2 drafts that haven't played yet. We added a directional punter that will improve our field position.  All things considered I think the Pats and Dolphins improved the most.  It will be a dog fight but I still think we are the team to beat in the AFC East until someone proves otherwise.

Great post, but two things I disagree with:

    1.  The Jets Safties are not amazing.  Rhodes was the captain of that back line for a while and a Pro Bowler. He has good range and helped Revis in double coverage.  I do agree their CBs are very good.

    2. Seymour has not been dominat for years now.  After he held out for that second contract and got hurt, he has never been the same. Ever since the 2006 leg surgery, he has simply not been the same player. Mike Wright was more productive, had more sacks, and is far cheaper.

I love getting a 1st rd pick for an aging, underachieving DE past his prime.

He did very well then they dumbed down his role.  But that worked in part because the running game was so good, not now.  It's going to be on Sanchez.  Brady didn't have those mistakes his first year as a starter, Flacco didn't even the Mannings didn't have to Sanchez' degree.  He's got talent, but as Carroll suggested he needed more polish.

Re: What the heck are the Jets doing?

Greene has a tendancy to put the ball on the ground, and has yet to prove he can be feature bcak in the NFL.  They also don't have the same calibre back up he and Washington were.  There is even talk Richardson will need to be let go. The Jets have taken a few steps back in the running game. There is no denying that.

Passing more is taking the chance of exposing Sanchez like it did last year.

In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing?:
In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing? : Oh Rusty, you are so silly.  A horrendous draft?  Not having 12 picks does not equal a bad draft.  Lets see, they got a great WR in Holmes for their #5, a Great WR in Braylon Edwards for their #3, A great cover corner in Cromartie for a # 3 and then grabbed what many consider the best corner/return man in the draft with their top pick.  Then, they added depth to running back & fullback and got a solid Oline replacement for Faneca.  When you don't allow the players to all get to old at once, you don't need to stockpile picks and replace 1/2 your team in 2 years. NE 2007 draft was downright awful, except when you consider they got Moss & Welker for a 2,4 & 7, then it becomes just an average draft. To recap, the Jets got the 2 best WRs and the 2 best corners in the draft and then, added depth to an already strong oline and running game.  Yep, that's horrendous alright.  The question is, will they only lead the league in defense and running AGAIN or will it be defense, running & passing?

    Downgraded Running game....

Edwards is not great, he is good...but average if he has a QB like Sanchez passing to him.

Holmes had a career year last year...before that he was decent....again, look who is throwing the ball to him.....

I do have to admit, the D is damn-good.....but it can only take you so far....

Most of you want to dog Sanchez because of typical rookie mistakes and give him no credit for excellent playoff performances.  As I have said before, a rookie QB, with one year of starting in college on a team with a new coach & new systems making it to the AFC championship game is pretty damn good. By the way, why is this TB's team?  Here's why, 21 fourth quarter comebacks, 29 game winning drives.  How about a 30% dropoff in points scored and 7 less wins when he went down with a virtually identical D performace?   It's not BB on the field doing that.

In Response to Re: What the heck are the Jets doing? : Of course he needs more work, he only started one year in college.  Manning had 28 picks his rookie year.  Don't kid yourself about the running game.  Greene is just fine and Bill Callahan is among the best oline coaches around.  Total yardage may go down, average yds will go up.  However impressive leading the league in rushing is, I'd prefer more balance.

The Jets and Dolphins have done quite abit to improve their offseason.  The Phins added Dansby and of course Brandon Marshall.  The Pats have done very little to nothing in the FA market, and have wasted their #1 pick.  With Brady anything is possible, but based on last season and Welker's injury, the Pats are going to have a very tough time winning the AFC east.
