Fred Smerlas said that as player rep, Vrable's locker room talk ticked off the team (aka, Robert Kraft) and that was the main reason he was traded to Denver. Was Vrable firing up the players about the uncapped season?

Well first, he was traded to KC.

Second, he complained abouthis contract repeatedly over the course of the years. And last year, while he was clearly underpeforming he was complainging on air in an interview about Patriot Place.

I don't know if that is enough to do it, but rather I assume his lack of production was the biggest factor.

I highly doubt there is any truth to that what so ever. Vrabel was the perfect Pat and there is no reason to slander his good name now that he has left town.

Good Im glad he bash Patriot Place, I hate that place, you do know that the Krafts are treating their fans like sh*t right now right? They wanted to use more parking lot for Patriot place but teh fans would give up P7 so they gave half teh lot to the rich yuppys for VIP parking. A lot of people didnt want Patriot Place.

It's pretty obvious he wasn't in the physical condition last year that he was in '07, wasn't it? His back has caused him really serious problems over the last 2-3 years. He probably wasn't being looked at as an every down player anymore. Due to the Pats lack of sentimental decision making, they moved him. Much better than cutting him after all he's done, which they may have. But Pats were good to him also. He came from Pittsburgh, where he warmed the bench, and thrived in this system. Fair exchange for both parties, right? And I believe there might be some truth to some of his recent commentary. Based on what he said, he should buy the team or shut up. I'd be ok with 4mil a year right now

What'd Vrable say to get him kicked out out of NE

He didn't bash Patriot place. It was around midseason and they asked what he thought of it. He said it was a great thing. And then made some flip remark about how Kraft has all this money and wasn't "paying" him.

I don't think he gives a rat's about the fan parking.

I am sorry, but a player with one sack on the season by midseason shouldn't be complaining about his fr!gg!n pay. Vrabel really lost me on that one, especially considering how bad real people were/are struggling. Totally classless stuff that even Asante didn't do when he was trying to get paid, and playing his brains out.

And it wasn't the first time Vrabel made some public comment about his deal. Or about where he was playing in the front seven. So let's not paint him like a saint here, he wasn't Troy Brown or Tedy Bruschi, the kind of player who defines Patriot public persona.

I don't think it was his mouth, but his age that got him traded. He didn't perform well last year and the Pats figured they could get rid of him in a trade to save more cap space than if they released him (like was reported they were going to do anyway)

    I agree Roast.

Read what I said in my first post.

All told, it was one of the smarter moves NE has made IMO. They essentially cut an aging vet to a non-competitive team. If they had cut him outright, which I am sure they were thinking of, he could have potentially landed in NJ, CLE, or MIA, and come back to haunt NE.

That isn't like losing a part timer like Poteat, because he was a signal caller on defense. That could be bad.

So now he can play out the string in 2009. And maybe one of those teams will offer him vet min to spill his beans in 2010.

But it was a sagacious maneuver.

Maybe Shawn Crable is further along then any of us thought and maybe he was traded so that the young guy could show his stuff.

Good point. Although sometimes people shout themselves to the bench despite production. I think Lito Sheppard is a case in point.

    MVP,

What I think is that NE analyzed a worst case scenario.

They probably thought that because Vrabel had slowed, that they could get better aggregate production with a platoon at the very least, and then hope that someone like Crable, Woods, or maybe Redd can step up full time.

I also think that it clears a space out to attack this draft at OLB where it is rich.

I mean players like Barwin and Sintim look tailor made to play strong side OLB, where they can rush, set an edge or drop back into zone.

    Time will tell.

I think that is the best way to look at it PatFan.

There can be no real loser in this transaction. If Cassel/Vrable doesn't work out in KC, it was still likely worth the risk; the Pats get cap space and *should be able to get a really nice player with #34 also. Vrable gets paid, Cassel can start. This is about as win-win-win-win as a deal can get.

I am also a firm believer that with all the LB kids comming up and out of the draft this year it was going to come down to cutting either Vrable or Bruschi this year anyway.

Which would you choose to keep all things considered?

Yes, he also believes that the players should get a share money because Patriots Place is using the Pats name fo bring people there.

If you ask me, Vrable is way off base and being a little greedy....Kraft owns the Patriots and is risking his own money on Patriots place....if Vrable wants to be a part of the share...then he should INVEST and shut up!

    Wow.

So if someone took a picture of you and your name and made a fortune charging people to see it you would be just fine with that???

That sounds like some bad business to me. Or maybe charity. I don't know.

There is nothing socialist about that. If anyone was making money off of me like that I would demand a cut. If they refused I would sue their azz!

I know. So many people say Socialist, and don't even really know what it means. They just heard it from McCain or Reagan or some shock jock on the radio and figured it sounded nice.

    It is just hyperbole.

By its very nature a progressive tax code (which was instated by Republican hero Teddy Roosevelt BTW) eliminates all possibility of being a Socialist government. But why let facts get in the way of rhetoric.

This Thread regressed faster then most. Vrable is done. Unfortunately BB didn’t notice it around game 4 last year. That’s when I seen the drop off. But he righted the situation before the start of this year.

    Here's a question:

If the players deserve a cut of the vast riches Patriot Place is sure to produce, how much do the players kick in when the idea tanks and Kraft loses millions?

Of course, that's not really the same thing at all.

Why should the players expect to be paid a dividend if someone else's investment succeeds but not suffer if it fails.

I don't get that at all.

No you are not. That just means you aren't getting a raise. Different thing entirely.

So here is my question, so I can make it a little easier:

How many people do you think would pay to see a bunch of pictures of Robert Kraft?
