what is the actual status with Mankins ?

    is he franchised now?
if he shows up on week 10 ,do the Pats have to take him and he gets his "vesting"
does he sign the franchise tender and the Pats have no choice?
can Pats revoke it in week 9
    please advise

    To All Patriot Fans:

Since the Pats were caught cheating they have not won anything.

It proves the point that the 3 superbowls they stole by 3 points are as tainted as Barry Bond's homerun record. The odd's makers give the home team a 3 point advantage, how much would you give a team who knows your defensive play calls.

Tom Brady is a just above average QB who knew if there were a blitz, which way it was coming from and if a Defensive Back was coming. The QB position is alot harder when you have to earn it. He had 50 TD's the last year they cheated and it was the last year The Cheatriots dominated the East. Sounds alot like Barry Bond doesn't it?

In a real football purist eyes the Cheatriots have no true Suberbowl Wins

[QUOTE]why doesn't anyone on this board understand the Mankins situation? Why does everyone blame Mankins for wanting the best deal he can get? Why does everyone feel his agent is a fool? It is obvious that Mankins and his agent feel a better deal is out there than what the Pats have offered. It is also obvious that Mankins and/or his agent, have put out feelers for what his worth may be. It is also obvious that NO ONE will TRADE for Mankins and give him the salary he wants. Therefore, it is VERY SMART for Mankins to sit until game 10, which is his right to do, come back and gain the acrued season, and then be a free agent. That way ANY TEAM can sign Mankins without giving up any players or draft choices. If ANY REASONABLE TRADE was available, wouldn't the Pats have pulled the trigger already? Why do people continue to post TRADE HIM....THERE IS NO TRADE OUT THERE THAT IS WORKABLE FOR THE PATS OR ANOTHER TEAM!!

McNeil rejoined the Chargers and his situation was the same. That Mankins is going to wait until week 10 is proof that there's nothing left but animosity between him and the team.

The real question is how he'll be received by BB who won't look kindly on this.

That the Pats made him the last pick in round #1 in 2005, making him a millionare rookie in the process, shows just what a self-centered ingrate he is.

When will Mankins show up? Hopefully, never again. Mankins has shown himself to be an egocentric, selfish a$$-clown, who cares nothing about his teammates.

There's one key difference. The Chargers OLine has been a complete mess. It's part of what has been holding them back. They needed McNeil back.

The Pats on the otherhand have an OLine that is the strongest element of the team. Connolly especially has shown himself to not only be a starting quality LG, but an elite LG. The Pats don't need Mankins.

Mankins on the otherhand truly does need the Pats. If he had taken the Pats deal, he would have made $3.268M in base salary + his signing bonus this year from that deal that would have put him amongst the highest paid guards in the game. Instead, he isn't going to get his signing bonus this year and will get 3/8s of a $1.6M base salary, about $600K this season. Then if we have a season next year, the best he can hope for is a deal similar to the one that the Patriots offered but likely will have to settle for a smaller amount. He screwed himself. Instead of getting $2.6M more in base salary and the signing bonus for a mega deal right away, he's not getting anything but $600k, a lot of grief and bad publicity, GMs and scouting staffs noting that the Pats effective OLine doesn't need him.

In the spirit of candor, I don't really care.  The O line is doing just fine without him.  If sitting out to week 10 is better for him, fine.  If sitting out the whole season is better for him, also fine.  If standing on his head in a corral on his ranch and spitting nickels for the entire season is better for him, fine as well.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: When will Logan Mankins show up? : The money will be available to him. It is the money and the compensation to the Pats that is the hold up. Supposed to be a working man? Not missing a game his entire career speaks for itself. How many players in the NFL are not "divas"? How can anyone begrudge another person wanting to make what that person feels is the best deal for themselves and their family? If a team is willing to pay Mankins more than the Pats are offering, more power to him. He put in his time, paid his dues, and now he has earned his right to cash in. Mankins and his agent are not dopes. They know the market, and understand what the market will be once Mankins is available with out compensation to the Pats. Please indicate ANY year in the history of the NFL where salries have gone down? To think that Evans set the bar for the indefinate future is short sighted. Mankins will get more. Too many teams need OL help.

Do you even realize what the Pats offered Mankins? They offered him a deal to make him the highest paid guard in football and he turned it down. So to say that the holdup is the pats compensation is ludicrous.

Re: When will Logan Mankins show up?

Actually, according to media reports(for whatever that's worth to anyone)the Patriots offer would have made him the third highest paid guard in the league, hardly not pocket change. The smart thing would have been to keep quiet and continue to work towards a multi-year deal both sides could live with.It is never a good idea when negotiating a contract to call, for all intents and purposes, the man who signs the paychecks a liar, regardless of what he heard or thought he heard.Assuming he shows up at week ten,I doubt the reception he receives will be cordial nor terribly useful to the Pats(unless the OL in ravaged by injuries and maybe even then he may be treated as a pariah by the organization).I see little chance of the Pats not franchising for the 2011,or 2012 season if there is a lockout in 2011.If this is what occurs, the chance of the sides achieving nw deal is miniscule at best, and he will most likely be dealt for as high a draft choice as they can.By the way, many feel that salaries for OL will continue to escalate are probably right concerning OT's but the rate of increase always has been and will  likely continue to be decidedly slower for guards. You also have to think about where the new salary cap will by set,in terms of the percentage of revenue the players receive. The owners lasy offer to the NFLPA called for around a 15-17% cut in the portion of revenue the players would receive. Now I don't think the cut in the percentage of revenue that goes to the players will be near that number but I cannot see the owners ever signing a deal without a salary cap and the cap could well be sliced at least a bit. This situation would never happened if this dispute had been kept behind closed doors. It really is a shame.

Re: When will Logan Mankins show up?

As far as I can tell, there are no details on what Mankins was offered during the offseason, other than a report by Albert Breer (do we think he's reliable?) that the offered contract averaged $7 million over 5 years.  We don't know the details of how much of that money was guaranteed or paid up front.  Until we know these details, we really don't know if the contract was good or bad.

In March, the Pats tendered a bit more than $3 million for 2010.  That's not even close to $7 million.
