Recent comments by Patrick Peterson saying he "does more than Sherman" (which is completely true) and pretty much saying he is better has sparked my thought...
Who is the best CB is the NFL?
Everytime someone says Sherman isn't the best he always defends himself with the leading the league in picks over 2 seasons crap. I think the INT debate is BS, because Kyle Arrington lead the league in picks with 7 in 2011 and he's not close to a top end CB to say the least. And Sherman also uses facts that he is the least targeted and still has the most INTs and defends, but
I hate how Sherman NEVER gives the team around him any credit. While I do think RS is a very good playmaker with the ball in the air, I do believe the Seahawks defense and system around him allow him to be an All-Pro CB. His front 7 consistently applies pressure forcing errand throws and bad decisions also he has two of the league's best safeties (Thomas & Chancellor) behind him as well. Sherman is helped a ton by the defense around him but he is still a very good CB regardless but I do believe if you put him in a shattier system he would be exposed. he only plays one side of the field and runs a lot of zone as well and again if helped by an amazing front 7....
Peterson is VERY good imo. He is a real good CB who is only getting better. by the time it's said and done I think Peterson has more potential that he could and will reach to be the best in the NFL. But, as of right now, I don't think he is THE definitive best.
Darrelle Revis was easily the best shutdown CB from 2009-2011 not even a question about it. While I still believe Revis is a top caliber CB, his play has been mighty different post-ACL. Yes, last season was his first year back from it but last season he wasn't the definitive #1 CB like he once was. While I think he can still regain that crown this season, we must wait and see.
Joe Haden is a young up and coming CB that is a beast. he is a real good CB on a Browns D that actually looks decent on paper. but knowing the Browns that will fall apart somehow, but haden will be a bright spot for years as a top end CB, but will he ever take the jump to #1? Idk. hes not there yet.
Aqib Talib, when healthy, is a monster imo and I wouldn't mind him over Revis IF you guaranteed me him 100% healthy, but that will never happen so I leave him out. too bad. amen the broncos got him, hopefully the hip flares up in January again.
So, I cant decide on who is the best CB. I would say Revis or Sherman (as much as that pains me), but Revis left something to be desired last year. Hopefully he brings us back to his 2011 campaign and Sherman's mouth will be silenced.
Who do you think is the best CB?
