Re: Who's Roster Spot will Tebow Take?

Probably cunninghams. What people refuse to acknowledge is that this is bob Krafts sand box and he can take his ball and go home anytime he wants. He could pick 53 un talented scrubs if he wants.  No matter what our reasons for keeping or cutting its a hill of beans. Kraft and or BB for what ever reasons can keep who ever they want

tebow can be kept for multiple reasons. Talent, ticket sales, image or who knows what reason. Speculation is just that. I wouldn't but the guy is worth a lot of ticket sales and shirt sales. Bottom line always is profit.

Now you got the easy part done telling me about it.

    In response to HOTBLITZ's comment:

Exactly. It's almost as if he would be playing Favorites over giving it to someone who deserves it far more.

I don't really see Tebow as a good option to keep, but I can think of three legitimate reasons why Belichick may decide to keep him that wouldn't necessarily be "playing favourites":

    1. He thinks Mallet isn't ready to protect a lead should Brady go down in a game (or if he wants to rest the aging Brady at the ends of games) and thinks Tebow would be better at that.  Tebow can be a decent game manager if you just want to run out the clock. He does have experience in the NFL and has won in the NFL in that "game manager" role.  So he's potentially a good security blanket if you need to put a QB in late in the game to protect a lead.

    2. He sees a role for Tebow as a short yardage running QB, similar to what they use in the CFL.

    3. He likes the idea of having him as a practice QB given all the running QBs in the league now.

Number 3 seems like the weakest of those to me, since I think he could easily find a practice squad guy to do the same.  However, reasons 1 and 2 both strike me as solid reasons to keep him--though I could argue that there might be other guys available who could do the same.

Personally, I don't see a lot of value in keeping Tebow.  He's an awful passer.  But Belichick knows what he's doing and if he keeps Tebow, I'm sure he'll have a better reason than just playing favourites. He'll really believe that Tebow provides more value than whoever else Belichick may have kept had he cut Tebow.

    Bolden? Sims? Blount?

I realize that the 53rd spot may be nearly meaningless but it's certainly not meaningless to the player who gets it. It has to be a psychological blow to a young player with talent to miss the mark especially losing it to a no talent bum whose 'fans' are religious fanatics as opposed to football fans.

If Tebow was just a football player with none of the religious baggage he wouldn't have even been brought onto the roster.

At this point I'm with posters saying that Tebow will be kept to prevent more pr damage from Hernandez.

Tebow fans (the religious fanatics) secretly want Brady and Mallet to be hurt so 'Tebow' can play.

What is BB's religion? Why is some ones religion even an issue here?

If you consider the roster as 53+8(ps) then keeping Tebow just means the "53rd" guy goes to practice squad. You'd want 3 QBs anyway, normally the 3rd is PS guy.

I think keeping Tebow is worthwhile for some goal line or special teams plays.

    He's not eligable for ps.

    Ballard's.

Really, Tebow does something different than most players in the NFL.  He's not a little Michael Vick, he's more of a snowplow as a running back.

Unlike Vick, Tebow is built to be a third and 1 specialist.  Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick hit the line about as hard. Tebow is slower and less accurate than these two but he's smarter.  That's going to come in handy in a Bill Belichick hurry-up offense.  RGIII and Kaepernick probably couldn't play the up-tempo quite yet.  Also, Tebow is affordable.

Furthermore, because he works cheap, Tebow's going to hit the line again and again, but no one will risk RGIII or Kaepernick on such plays.  BB isn't afraid to get his third stringer injured for 4 weeks.  No, Tebow won't take the pounding until he's age 35 or 40 in the NFL, but neither will Vereen or McCourty probably.

Tebow has been hired to help the Patriots win games, especially if Tom Brady is injured.  He's going to primarily go in on running subpackages against vulnerable defenses, probably with Gronk and Suds in as extra blockers.  He's going to run the football all day until the defense starts selling out to the run, and then we're going to find out if he can hit open receivers.

If you believe what goes on in preseason games then the Jets are a 3-1 team to you.  Good luck with that!

Did you just say Tebow was smarter than RG3, Kapernick or Wilson? Are you aware that Tebow, besides being bad at the technical aspect of playing football, he also has extremely LOW  football IQ?

You don't need 3 QBs, you need 2 on gameday and an emergency QB (Edelman). And Tom Brady wouldn't allow BB to sub him in goal line plays after he's done the work if setting the Patriots for that potential score.

Well Tebow fans aren't really football fans. They're on blogs quoting scripture and talking about Tebows Twitter page.  They wanted Tebow to start here.  I've seen it.

Look around at the different Pats blogs and see if you can pick them out. They're the ones who stopped posting on the Pats blogs a few hours ago when Tebow was cut.

Merril Hoge was quoted as saying that last year and several blogs have come out and said the same thing. Plus his Wonderlic was pretty low for a QB. You can discount opinions but the Wonderlic doesn't lie.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/19/merril-hoge-kicks-tim-tebow-while-hes-down-he-has-no-clue/

    Hoge:

“The more I studied him in an NFL setting, the more disturbed I was that he has no clue what he’s looking at,” Hoge said of Tebow. “His IQ as a football player is not very good. That is why they have to come down and make it some of a college-form system that he’s comfortable with in Florida. He can’t execute, from a cerebral aspect, a pro-style system.”

    http://voices.yahoo.com/tim-tebow-fails-nfl-wonderlic-test-2010-scouting-5631208.html

"Tim Tebow's Wonderlic Test score at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine has to be embarrassing. Tebow's Wonderlic Test score was only 22 out of a possible 50 points, netting him the lowest Wonderlic Test score of all the quarterbacks tested at the 2010 Combine."

Think of that what you like, but it's a FACT.

    Mallet threw for more yards.

Tebow was sacked 4 times losing 25 yards.

When Mallet left the game the Pats had the lead.

The 13 yard Tebow pass to Sims was turned into a 52 yard TD by Sims and the 4th string wanna be practice squad DB from the Giants who fell down on the play.

Tebow with 9 seconds left and the lead should have taken a knee rather than risk the outcome with a pass.  Desperate to find a roster spot he tossed it in the end zone and Sims went up and took the ball which was headed right into the coverage DBs hands.

Sims out performed Tebow and Mallet but he was cut.

I'd like to see them trade Mallet also because he isn't the long term answer to who takes over for Brady but not if that means Tebow comes back.
