    Why not Kevin Williams?

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/20/kevin-williams-knows-its-over-for-him-in-minnesota/

Looks like the Vikes are set to move on.  He seems like he would be fairly cheap.

One would think that bringing in former Minnesota DL Coach Brendan Daly to be a Defensive Assistant with the Pats, that we would have a leg up  on everyone in the league to sign the likes of Jared Allen, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I wonder if there is any interest with Kevin Williams?

Evidently Daly doesn't have much pull with his former players. Guoin didn't sign here! Why would Allen come in for a median contract, Williams may not have a bunch of teams looking at him. So maybe he signs a make good contract and that would depend on #75.

    Re: Why not Kevin Williams?

Williams and the Vikes played 1 gap defense with Williams being quite effective at one time. But BB is not playing the 1 gap. Not sure if Willams is able to play 2 gap or not, but I suspect we see Williams in Dallas replacing Hatcher. Dallas is playing 1 gap, and he will fit their budget

I don't really know much about the differences in gap defenses.  Daly really should have an idea if he fits.

BB seems to bring in an aging DL free agent every year.  Williams is almost the same size as Seymour and Kelly and is 33.  If these guys are too old, I wonder what will happen to VW since he is 32.

Right? For 1 year at $11.5 cap hit, Pats can swallow it. Draft a DT in rounds 1-3 for development. If Vince shows poorly in camp, cut him. Salary saved...still have Kelly, AA, Sil and a round 1-3 rookie for the rotation at DT
