Why the English wore Red Coats in Battle

So now we know why the English wore red coats in battle

A long time ago, Britain and France were at war.

During one battle, the French captured an English colonel. They took him to their headquarters, and the French general began to question him. Finally, as an afterthought, the French general asked, Why do you English officers all wear red coats? Don't you know the red material makes you easier targets for us to shoot at?

In his bland English way, the officer informed the general that the reason English officers wear red coats is so that if they are shot, the blood won't show, and the men they are leading won't panic.

And that is why, from that day to this, all French Army officers wear brown pants.

Those 50 and 70 calibers were not too accurate either so even if the red coat provided a good target the rifle lines were also silly as you could still be off target and hit someone....

Back then it took balls to stand in the line taking fire and having to reload the single fire muskets.

You have to respect the Patriots back in the day as they were farmers and not professional soldiers and still whipped the English professional army!

What doesn't make sense is the Boston/NE patriots wore red jerseys for many years (check out pat the patriot), when during the revolution Americans wore navy coats. at least Kraft got it right when he took over.

but, those red jerseys are classic and iconic

In Response to Re: Why the English wore Red Coats in Battle : Fantastic.  As for me...?  I'm fightin' in a pick-up war tommorow, the neighborhood kids want the grounds to be in the cul de sac in front of their house, I said that since their parent's encampment includes the last house on the block, why not include their front lawn as part of the battlefield, but they won the subsequent rock-paper-scissors skirmish & so they got first say, I might tattle on 'em though, & see how tough they wanna act then...

Once you get them to to table to negotiate their terms of surrender, make sure they pinky swear or it doesn't count.

The French provided indispensable military aid to us during the American Revolution.  Yorktown would never have happened without the French army and French navy helping to trap Cornwallis.  The U.S. owes the French a lot.  (I'm not saying we did not repay our debt in World War I and II.)

Not just saying you did because this is the internet and no one will actually know if you are telling the truth? And by the way, the USA is getting their butt kicked in Afghanistan...wonder if we will need any help?

Now I have never actually fought in a war this is true, but I have led many armies to victory on x-box, oh even on x-box it only took me 13 minutes to defeat the French. The reason it took so long was becasue everyone of them kept surrendering

My son has and is fighting in a war. Matter a fact he just got a silver star. He'd beg to differ about getting our azzes kicked.

In Response to Why the English wore Red Coats in Battle : one thing you gotta love is a bunch of sheltered yahoos whose idea of war is old movies and tv, living thousands of miles away from any real conflicts and living in a country that has never known an onland invasion in it's history making fun of France-or anywhere else-invaded in ww2-or any other war...gee, I can't figure out why so many other countries hate us...must be our "freedom"...of course, if we were invaded tomorrow most of you poking fun here on this board would be the first ones hiding in the basement or under the table...
