Ugh. Too many stupid kids here. Way too many. We get it: He's the white, dwarf, hard working player that is fun to watch and easy to root for, but you don't stock your RB group with multiple scatbacks. It's a waste money.

    Vereen, Blount, Bolden>Woodhead.

    End of story.

Do people even know who Shane Vereen is here?
Woodhead was yet another poor GM maneuver. Sorry BallBoy. It's true.
Laughable, Bustchise.  He's a good little player but if he returned here, either he or Vereen would never see the field.

Blount has not only helped us ice games he's jumpstarted our running game when we've needed it, like last week in the bagjob game vs Carolina.

Woodhead is a better player, but he doesn't hold the skill set Blount does which is some size and some solid in between the tackles running.

We've lost 2 SBs because we refused to commit to a run game over 4 qtrs.  You cannot commit to a run game with a scatback.

Woodhead was held onto in 2012 to groom Vereen.
Wrong.

Woodhead is playing much better for Chargers than he did for NE.

Think the ofeensive coordinator out there knows how to use him.

Re: WOODHEAD WITH 2 TDs against CHIEFS!

Woodhead is having a monster year. Pats probably would like a do over but it is what it is. A few weeks ago he was on pace to tie the all time reception record for a running back. Vereen is probably better when healthy but the Pats would probably have beaten the Jets and Bengals with him. I live in So Cal and virtually everyone out here thinks River's monster season is a result of Woodhead. They finally found a replacement for Sproles. If their defense wasn't so awful they probably would make the playoffs. I think they can beat the Bronco's once if their offensive line can hold up. A fairly gutsy team despite it's record.

It's not a shame at all, Bustchise. We will never win a SB without power running returning to our gameplans. ENd of story. Woodhead did not provide that for us. Period.

Bolden and Blount will prove to be more valuable to this team than Danny Woodhead. Truth, Bustchise.

Vereen is a fine, fine player in the scatback role. I could see if Vereen didn't show anything, but that's not the case.

It IS a SHAME and you're a freakin MORON.

Washington, any one ?  Two snaps?

Vereen played in two games TWO and is injured every year.

Another terrible move by BB.  Just terrible!

Has to be BB's worst off season eva.

    "Shame we let him go."

LOL @ fake Pats fan Rico.

If Woodhead is so great then why is San Diego such a mess?

Answer: he's a low impact player.

I'm more critical of Belichick than many in here but he almost always knows when it's time for a player to move on.

Only time in his whole career here he messed up was Dieon Branch, we lost a Super Bowl shot because of that, but otherwise, he is almost always on the mark.

Welker remains to be seen. We have to wait till the post season on that one.

Woodhead is a footnote in Pats history and soon in NFL history. Nice player but Vereen is the future of that role.

good for woody. He did well for the patriots early on, not so much at the end.  Will root for him unless he plays against Patriots.
What are you talking about? He scored 7 touchdowns for the Pats last year. He converted a lot of 3rd and longs and he caught 40 passes last year. While he only averaged 4 ypc running the ball he probably had his best all around season last year as a Pat. In fact he was probably under targeted by Brady (though with Welker, Gronk and Hernandez it's hard to say that).

    on a side note....:

TIQUAN UNDERWOOD WITH 2 TDS FOR THE BUCCS......!   as in... so what...? Maybe they have a better fit on another team.

Nothing lasts forever people.  Woodhead was a nice interim type player to fill a temporary void.  Not sure what he is making for the Chargers.  but you can't keep everybody...  RB is not a need for the patriots.

San Diego's problem is defense. It is actually worse than the Pats at this juncture. The Chargers probably have a worse defensive backfield than the Pats one that will show up tonight. Even the worst teams in the NFL have good players. Does Andre Johnson stink because trhe Texans do. Does Adrian Peterson stink because the Vikings do. Woodhead is not in their category of course but he is having a pro bowl season and while Vereen may be better when healthy he has been healthy for only two games this year. The running back position get's injured frequently and the Pats could definately have used Woodhead this year. I think they would have been 9-1 with him on the team. I still think Belichick is an above average GM but he missed it on this one. Oh well, water under the bridge.

Coolade, I said that in jest. IMO Vereen is better when healthy than Woody. You can put Vereen in a 3WR set and not miss a beat.

He;s been over-used because Mathews sucks and Ronnie Brown is old.  SD is a .500 team for a reason.

They can pile up all the stats they want and still be a poorly consructed team at the end of it all.
Matthews does not suck. He has been a disappointment for the Chargers but he is on pace for his second 1000 yd rushing season. Like Ridley his problems have been fumbles. Not so much the quantity but the bad timing of them. He does not seem to fumble it in the blow outs but in the close losses.

should've f1cking kept him. cheap move. guy is good. oh well
How is it cheap?!  BB had Woodhead groom Vereen and BB is turning the keys over the more gifted player. Teams who use more than scatback style RB are moronic. Thankfully, we carry more power backs for once so we can ice games late with it.

    Vereen and Blount>Woodhead

I've said this before, but with too much Welkie or Woodhead vs the better Ds, we always lost.

That's a fact.   We never lost when BJGE was the lead/feature back in our gameplans.
Benny! Woot! Woot! How's old Benny doing these days? We should start a Benny awarness thread...remember those? You know he hasn't run for over a 100 yards in a game this season. You know what is hilarious? When you said YPC is a meaningless stat to measure a running back. You know what else is funny? That you can talk about running backs yet said Curtis Martin couldn't catch passes (when he is 13th all time in receptions by a running back)...that was funny, but not as funny as you thinking BJGE was the reason we won. Now that is hilarious!

I still can't believe that this is still being debated. If Vareen stayed healthy this season, BB resigned Woodhead, how many snaps was Woodhead going to get?

BB gave the guy a chance to make it somewhere, AFTER BB GAVE HIM A SHOT WHEN NO ONE ELSE WAS WILLING!

    BB, worst GM ever. -_-

This is about cash and positional depth. Pats had positional depth at RB at low cost(Bolden, Ridley, Vereen). Sign Woody lose a 2nd string DT. How smart would that look now? Woody can be the greatest back in the world who doesn't make it to the playoffs oh wait....no he can't. SD signed him because they needed him after Mathews(little positional depth).

Re: WOODHEAD WITH 2 TDs against CHIEFS!

Vereen is younger and may have a lot of upside, but Woodhead had been pretty good after he was picked up by the Pats at a cheap price.  Vereen is still under his rookie contract, and the Pats were not facing a situation where they had to choose only one. Woodhead was the best among the Pats' Bs in providing pass protection despite his smaller size. What the organization wasted in signing Leon Washington ( signing bonus and a 1.2 millions a year contract) could have almost pay for Woodhead's contract.
