    If we're talking QBs:

    Leaf

    Russell

    Harrington

    Carr

    Sanchez

That's my top 5 last decade plus.  Sanchez was lucky to have an established D and a top rated run game to protect him though, which those other QBs did not have whatsoever.

If you're picking top 5 and miss, that's pretty bad.

Sanchez is not on that list. Those guys did nothing Sanchez won a couple playoff games on the road.

Watch him, he is definitely on the list.

No. Sanchez handed it off to RBs (top ranked rushing attack and O Line) and had a good D. Those above QBs had nothing close to that whatsoever. The Lions? Carr got killed on every play in Houston.  Russell played in arguably the worst environment at the time in Oakland.

Akili Smith is another name for Cincy that comes to mind. I could go never figure out why GMs would think an NCAA prospect could do it all for an offense when the offense wasn't completely built FIRST.

Sanchez didn't do anything, as we've seen more obviously in recent years. Bottomline is, you should be a franchise QB if you go in the top 5 of a draft. Sanchez is not and never was, 50 million later.

All those above QBs went top 5, I believe.

Yes, Queenie, remember how it was the Jets D scored 28 points against that "rebuilt" patsies D in the playoffs.

Still holding on to a couple of AFCC losses, huh. Pathetic!

Russel leads the list because of amount of money invested but how about for the Pats...

Andy Katzenmoyer anyone? Phenom Ohio st LB who would redefine the position for the next decade. Left TC without permission and then retired a year later.

In the Patriots category, I nominate Hart Lee Dykes.

    What about Eugene Chung?  lol

Christ, our front office back then was the like Jets now.

Those were brutal years, front office, ownership, coaching, you name it. Victor Kiam, Sam Jankovich, Dick McPherson, wow. Comical really. Then there was the everpresent threat of the team moving to LA or wherever.

The Sullivan years weren't much better, but at least they had a couple of good runs with Fairbanks and then with Berry.

I think the Sullivans selling it off and not caring, is a reflection of how they actually ran the franchise the whole time.

Part of the problem with ownership changing hands is WHO the franchise is sold to. That's part of the responsibilty of the seller.   From there, a crappy owner like Kiam, let it go to Jankovich and then to Orthwein, etc. Kraft put a stop to it, thank god.

The Sullivans were a hokey family that treated owning the team like it was playing Russian Roulette for a night at a casino.

It was just a random series of moves with no thought behind them for 25 years. And, they were cheap.

Not quite Jeremy Jacobs level, but close.

"The Sullivans were a hokey family that treated owning the team like it was playing Russian Roulette for a night at a casino. "

Didn't Chuck Sullivan mortgage the Team to finance Michael Jackson's "Magical Mystery Tour" that put the the Patriots in financial jeopardy?   This led to the Sullivans to having to sell the team?   Then Victor Kiam and the mess that followed eventually led to Bob Kraft owning the team.

So I guess we could all thank Chuck Sullivan.      :)

The Sullivans, especially the kids, were incompetent buffoons.

Who remembers when Matt Millen smacked his helmet upside Patrick Sullivan's noggin? That was probably the football high point of the Sullivan years and the snot-nosed punk decides to heckle Howie Long on his way out of the stadium. Classy.

Yep.  Patrick was a joke. I wonder what he does now?

He is a scout for the JETS!

Looking at the 1983 draft the Patriots chose Tony Eason over Dan Marino,

in defense of this choice the Pats were'nt alone  but at least Eason ( Grogan  part time) got us to a Super Bowl. how about Jets taking Ken Obrien over Marino.

I'll have to defend the "punter in the first round"  Ray Guy and Reggie Rolbie were arguable the best punters ever in the NFL.

Gholdson cause all he needed was one sack to get millions of dollars. Dont forget Akili Smith and Tim Couch. Jemarcus eat a cheese burger russell

For Pats - Eugene Chung OL from Va Tech was pitiful 1st round choice, Lawrence Maroney was no gem either.
