Forget the money and all that otherstuff, if they wanted to sign Dumervil, and I am sure they are looking into it, they could. But they would prob have to cut or trade Nink and his 2 m $ cap hit. I do like Nink a lot. I think he's one of those gritty bb , patriot type players. Though let's be clear on something, he's no Vrable....and I just think that Maybe....a guy like Dumervil on the outside with jones on the other side would possibly put this team over the top. We really do need to rush better. It has been a prob for awhile.
Would you trade Nink for Dumervil....straight up ? That is the question...

Nah Nink gets the job done, high motor, humble and definitely clutch when we need him. Guy is the man out there. Perfect model of what BB wants his players to be like. Dumervil on the other hand is an unknown to our defense. We dont know what he could do in our system. He could play like he did in Denver or totally ochostinko it. Ill take the proven hard worker whose cheaper over the expensive question mark.

Nope. Nink is a lunch pail type of player that gets it done. I take him over dumervil. Plus, if 6m separate them, then no brainer. nink all day Long.

I don't see Dumervil ending up in Foxboro, he has some pass rush ability, but he doesn't have the height/length that BB likes in his edge players.
At the end of the day, I think they get things done with Abraham.

You see Rusty the reason why we haven't won a Super Bowl in a few years is because we have guys like TB-C and Dink as pass rushers while guys like Peppers get signed by other clubs. There's a reason why Mr. Kraft said we need to focus on Defense. By the way this is an opinion pole so stop acting like you won something. lol
By the way, what round was Cannon drafted in again?

Dumervil is the better and more natural pass rusher, but not by as much as some would like to think. He only had 3 more sacks than Nink last year. Nink has been steadily progressing every year though, and is much better against the run. Also, the cost difference is enormous. That being said, while I'm intrigued with the idea I would have to say no.

If the only thing the guy had to do was rush the passer you could ask the question. So the answer is clealry NO.

Forget the money in a discussion of a player? You are talking about the Pats organization? So now 2 million dollars are too much of a cap hit even for a good player and the Pats should look at cutting him to save money, when veteran minimum is a million a year?

Man, this is a tough one! I like Ninkovich. I think he plays with his heart on his sleeve. One of those guys who isn't the most talented yet he makes up for it with heart and determination! Do you give up a guy who is making progress in the Patriots defense for a guy who might be a bit better but would be a question mark coming into the Pats defense? I'm not so sure about that.

LOL Did Rusty get banned again?! BTW I like Nink, but I think he is better served a s a rold player not getting 80% of the snaps. I say get Dumervil if the $ is right but keep Ninck as well. no reason they cnat fit them both under the cap.

I'm gonna count that as a yes ( that you would make the trade ) and I wholeheartedly agree with you. I would love Nink in a super sub role. He would really be an asset to bb and the D. So, if that could happen that would be the best of all worlds. When I look at this D now I just think that we are One difference maker away ( either a really good de edgerusher, or a dt that can replace love and make him a back up also ) from being " potentially" a special unit that dominate games. Bb has shown in the past, with not the greatest of results ( a Thomas, and Rosey Colvin ) to go for a difference maker when needed, this may be the time he tries again. Go for it Bill... -

Unfortunately, the Pats don't have the luxury to just 'forget the money and all that other stuff'. If the cost for Nink is $2m and the cost for Dumervil is $6m (or the $9m that Denver was going to pay him), that needs to be factored in to your decision as well. That is $4m (about 1/30th or 3.3% of all of the money you can spend on your roster) that you no longer have to get help in other positions. Also need to consider that Dumervil played in a much different defense that what the Pats run. Pats don't have a Von Miller who requires consistent double teaming and opens things up for Dumervil. Is he worth that much more when he will be asked to do very different things than just be a straight pass rusher, which Nink is not.

Nope, Dumervil is a pass rushing specialist and a liability in the running game. Nink is a plus run defender with at least average pass rushing ability. I'd take the plus and nuetral to the plus and minus anyday.

I'd trade Ninkovich, Arrington, Kyle Love and all the other scrubs on the defense.
Ninkovich is an average run defender (70) and a below average pass rusher(65), Dumervile is a below average run(55) defender and a good pass rusher(83).
