At the very least he is doubtful for Sunday's opener.  His streak will come to an end on Sunday.
Found this interesting... Jay_Glazer Jay Glazer RT @ JimIrsay : Update on Peyton bit.ly/mVp9Ha Indianapolis Colts Statement on Peyton Manning's Status Indianapolis Colts Statement on www.colts.com/team/roster/peyton-manning/e0a02c1e-c1ec-4c1a-a934-f827fe8fc619/ " title="Peyton Manning" class="player-card-tooltip" /> Peyton Manning ’s Status In response to a number of media inquiries, the Colts issue the following update on Peyton Manning’s status.  During the last week, the rate of improvement in Peyton’s rehabilitation process slowed.   Over the weekend Peyton experienced soreness in his back.  It was originally thought to be a normal reaction to his rehabilitation regimen.  When the soreness persisted, the Colts medical team decided to initiate diagnostic tests and to consult with a number of specialists around the country who have been involved in Peyton’s case from the outset.  That process continues.  As a result of the most recent development the doctors have decided that Peyton will not practice. His participation therefore, in Sunday’s game versus Houston will likely be doubtful.  We will update his playing status as required by NFL policy as the week goes on. At the conclusion of the diagnostic process, if there are any new developments in the prognosis which we outlined for Peyton at the start of training camp we will report them.  As of now Peyton continues to deal with a complicated neurological recovery, the end date of which is unpredictable.  As was stated at the outset, it serves no useful purpose to speculate about hypothetical outcomes.  When and if there are concrete medical facts to report we will do so.  We appreciate your consideration in this matter. Colts are scrambling, not a good sign for Colts fans this season.  I guess we won't see UD6 around here much now.

Yeah..."The Dog(gggg)" has been conspicuous by his absence...LOL!!

Perhaps, after hearing this news, he suffered whiplash when he fainted and fell backwards...and now needs a neck procedure too!! LOL!!!

Seriously...the Colts have invested huge dollars in their 35 year old icon. They should not bring him back unless he's 100%. If Manning will never be 100% again, he should consider the wise words of Ed Reed...and retire.

I feel bad for the guy, it's probably career threatening if he goes under the knife again. And what's more bad nerves are horrible my dad had a pinched nerve in his back this christmas he's not really a guy to display how much pain he's in (he lost the top of one his fingers later in the year and was in less pain) so it's not pleasant to say the least. I only hate Gomer when he's driving down the field in the 4th quarter with that horrible inevitability of the score coming. I wouldn't wish an injury on anyone it's sick

How would we really know they don't have a good backup until any one of them gets more than a five second audition.

I can't remind folks enough of Cassel's situation before he had a few games to get ready. And after the early debacle, Painter looks like he is improving his timing with the WRs. He has two TDs the other night, and looked pretty good doing so.
In Response to Re: YIKES! Peyton needs another neck procedure? : foxy - its much like what you guys went through in 08.  The only difference is that you knew Brady was done for the year so you could simply move on.  Here we are hanging in the balance.  And while frustrating, we know that hanging in the balance is still our best hope for a successful season, because we are significantly better with Manning. Ultimately, if it takes all year to heal, I just hope it does (nerve regeneration) so that we may have a few good years left.

Can't stand the Colts, but I never want to see anyone hurt.  I remember the trolls once TB went down, their glee was pretty sad.  That said, the Colts do have a few things in their favor should PM miss some time:
    -  They have a relatively easy division to compete in.
    -  He's no PM, but there are alot worse backup QBs out there than Collins. Collins has been on very successful teams.  May have to tweek the offense a bit and run a bit more, but he's a capable QB.  With Cassell we didn't really know what to expect.  Similiarly I think, Collins will defeat inferior opponents, lose against the cream-of-the-crop opponents and perhaps pull an upset of a really good team.
    -  If PM isn't on the shelf too long, he'll be playing against us.

I do agree "not knowing" is worse than knowing the QB will be out for the season.  Won't have to return to the starter's play strengths upon his return. All this said, the Colts will still be playoff contenders, even if it's just a WC.
I really hope he doesn't need another procedure and that he is able to play the season.  It doesn't matter who it is or what team he plays on, I hate to see anyone out for a season or a career cut short due to injury.  Like it or not, Manning is good for football. I always look forward to the Pats Colts games.  Even with Manning this season I don't think they will be as good as previous years.  They have not done much, if anything at all, to improve as a team for this season. I think regardless of Manning playing this year Brady will really separate himself from Manning as a QB this season.  All the people in favor of Manning being better then Brady will have no choice but to recognize Brady as being the better of the two QB's.  Of course without Manning playing they will have no choice but to recognize this.
    Posted by BradyMossFan
I agree with you 100% here.  I view Manning/Brady almost like I viewed Magic/Bird.  To this day it seems as if the NBA is missing something with them gone.  Manning is a great QB.  He and Brady are going to go down as being among the best QB's in the history of the game.  I hope they both play for several more years.

Re: YIKES! Peyton needs another neck procedure?

I almost think that the colts should go with Painter if Manning is forced to miss time. You might recall a lot of people around here in 2008 calling for Culpepper or Garcia to be brought in because of Cassel's shaky start. By the end of the year, he had come into his own and shut everyone up. Painter won't be the next Manning, nor will he be the next Kurt Warner or Tom Brady, but he might just be the next Matt Cassel.

If I were the Colts, I would look into aquiring an another RB or two. If I remember correctly, the Pats were 6th in the NFL in rushing in 2008, using the commitee approach...that was a huge help to Cassel. I think a guy like Chester Taylor would have been a great pick up for them.

and I respect him, even if I don't like him.  Elite competition brings out the best in the best teams and I want him 100% for the November Patriots matchup

I agree with the general sentiment in that I hope Manning comes back and plays at a high level again and this is not a career or even season ending deal.  That said, there are and have been players who I do not feel that way about and if they were injured, good for them.  Not naming any names, but one molests drunk women and another one tortures and kills animals for sport.

I don't feel bad for Pay-ton at all..he's had a nice long run and he's been personally  responsible for the only SB Indy has won, and is personally responsible for choking on the fish bone and BLOWING a SB win against the Saints...and they will NEVER get back to the SB in Indy...they are done......neck surgery, especially the 2nd time around, is brutal....they had to cut several nerves, it takes 12-24 months for them to reconnect fully.....he's been beaten and abused for years, and it will only take one good hit for him to have truly permanent damage, leaving him unable to do anything meaningful, let alone play pro football...

Too bad...too bad...now get off the stage and let the Dolts get on with digging their way out of ignominy.....and it won't be Polian who'll do it...he'll retire..Caldwell...well, we'll all find out just how much of a coach he ISN'T...

I'm just glad that all this misery will be inflicted upon that sanctimonious collection of hicks in the state of In-DIE-ana....grovel in your agony hicks, this one's for you!

They're already just a border line team even with Manning. They'll probably start their new racist, drunk Quarterback Collins. I may Tivo this opening game just to show at parties for kicks.
