agree with you on this one.  he is very enjoyable to listen too when it comes to pats talk but boy o boy is it painful to listen to him talk about the other 3 sports.  he should be a pats specialist not a host for a 4 hr time slot

In Response to Zolak on 98.5:
Turn on 98.5 any time he talks Pats, which is a lot, and you'll hear a very rational, educated analyst when it comes to this team. It's very refreshing to hear him or to some degree Ordway, Smerlas and DeOssie on WEEI. He's already hit on a lot of what the rational fans here have said about last week's game with regards to zone coverage and many different people getting looks in it. That's one example. He also mentioned how BB will know what he has byb the BYE and he'll gameplan to the strengts of the team.  Duh. Anyway, for the trolls types here, tune in and maybe you'll learn something about what you should have been noting for the last 10 years here in NE. As much as Bodden is a loss, it's time for the younger DBs to step up and play with urgency and within gameplans.  We shall see.

Like i said on another post. It's time for Wheetley and Whilhite to step up and perform; Maybee Arrington can be more than a special Teams Ace. One thing about the Pats over the years. NO Team in the NFL has ever played better with the Type of Injuries the Pats have sustained over the years. All 3 SuperBowl wins we had major Casualties on the Team. We just got a little bit younger at Corner. Anyone have the Status on Kaczur. I thought he not Bodden might appear on the IR

    Good Post Russ,
This is one of the only shows I enjoy listening to. I also Like Smerlas but the Big Show is usually one big screamfest.
Zolak is usually spot on in his analysis and he's not Bi-Polar from week to week.

The Bodden injury: It hurts but we need the young guys to step up and play on Defense anyway. I can't get worked up over injuries because there is nothing you can do about them.

Russ, you come off so arrogant.  As usual, if someone has an objective opinion on anything Patriots, they are considered "Troll Types".

What I've seen is a very disapointing defense since about 2004.  Yes, in 2007 they were very good statistically in almost every category but they were also ahead by 50 points a game and those stats are very misleading.

During the superbowl years, everyone considered their dominance was from BB's masterful defensive game planning.  I agree he had a ton to do with those wins but we realized once the talent went away (Rodney, Bruschi, Willie, Seymour, Vrabel, etc, etc, etc), those wins had as much to do with the talent we had as it did with his game plans.

Just because BB is our coach it doesn't mean our defense is going to dominate. You have to have the players to carry out those masterful gameplans.  Unfortunately with Bodden going down, it will be that much harder to do.

It's going to be a looong "bend but don't break" kind of year, and I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of bending and breaking!  We better hope Brady puts up another 50 points a game!

As usual, I hope I'm wrong!

this is exactly what i been saying....  you just left out the poor drafting..  BB thinking he can turn 3rd rounders into Pro Bowlers...    they are 3rd rounders for a reason should have kept the 1st rounders instead of trading down all the time

as the great Parcells says you are what you are that goes for players as well

Pardon me for saying so (and you may very well wish to report me to P.E.T.A. for kicking a dead horse) but why do potentially interesting and stimulating threads have to be drawn down to the muck by personal attacks?  Why must we always resort to name-calling and not-so-subtle barbs if there is disagreement?  And I'm not just referring to the non-Patriot fans who post on this forum.

Now, feel free to take your best shot - I'm a big boy.

Dude, they WON with 3rd rounders and castoffs..........3 SBs.  It works, and keeps us in the mix.  As soon as I see you quoting "the great" Parcells, I see you for what you are.  Parcells is practical, and knows a thing or two, but is not great.  He fixes BAD teams to make them DECENT, but can't get past that.  He quits on teams all the time when his schtick wears out.  He isn't even in BBs neighborhood.

    Re: Zolak on 98.5

That said, Zolak does seem to have his head on, and I would like at least one experienced non int hunting cb.  Even just to help guys with picking up receiver cues and small adjustments.  A veteran can really help out.  I'm really bummed about Bodden, he was so solid last year, and I had hoped to get things solid with our secondary before the bye week.  Can't think of who we can call, but get someone.  Tony Massorati wants us to just give up and call it a rebuilding year, NOT seeing that, but I would rather have a solid anchor in there.

You couldn't be more wrong!  They won those superbowls with some excellent players!  The only players I would consider "castoffs" were on the O-Line but other than that they were an extremely talented team!  This is why BB was able to create "masterful" defensive schemes and now he can't!

    Vrabel - 3rd round; Bruschi - 3rd round; Troy Brown - 8th round (yes 8th; when they had one); J.R. Redmond - 3rd round; Jermaine Wiggins - Undrafted F/A; Tom Brady - 6th round; David Patten - Undrafted F/A; Otis Smith - Undrafted F/A; Adam Vinatieri - Undrafted F/A.

Do I really need to go on?

For the record, this discussion is mostly around the defense.  The defense during those years were led by smart outstanding players who could carry out a complicated game plan.  Since then, I've seen our defense make average QB's look like probowlers!

I really don't care when Bruschi, Vrabel, etc were drafted.  By the time our 2nd and 3rd superbowl came, they were tops at their position.

I'm sorry - I thought you were the one who posted this challening the 3rd rounder premise.

Seems to me the fact that Vrabel and Brushchi (for example) were outstanding players only further proves that 3rd rounders can become highly successful.

So please - what is your point then?
