Gonzo, 5 HRs, 3 games ... and he has 181 hits already.   Look out MVP, here Gonzo comes.

Wow, with all the nasty stuff I read on this board, a few good natured jabs at a guy who purposely brought discord to this thread is swept away.

Baseball is a funny game, and that was some funny stuff you took away.

AGon has had these numbers for his career ... Granderson, nope.  Bautista, yes, for two years.    Does it mean that Bautista is using HGH?  No, it doesn't.  It is stupid to even suggest that.

But Granderson definitley is Tongue outTongue outTongue outTongue out

The guy weighs 180 fully dressed ... no way he hits that many HRs with that skinny frame without doping.   HGH testing = the end for Granderson.  Better hope the union turns down the testing.

Granderson made some significant changes in his batting stance.  I highly doubt there are any PED's involved in his improvement.  He's always had this potential.

Agon has - 49 more hits, 70 points better in Average, 18 more doubles, 45 less strike outs, better OBO, 14 more total bases

Granderson has - 30 more runs, 7 more triples, 23 more stolen bases, everthing else is close......I think Agon wins it if the season eneded today

The 1st to reach/top 100 RBI's count stands, as the century mark has always been a standard of ranking egg-cellence in that category.

Granderson?  .270 ... with a slugging % of .496 ... and he is almost 100 points higher this year.

Gonzo was .298 avg last year, but has had  plus .500 slugging percentage for the last 6 years.  And Gonzo averages over 30 HRs a year the last 5 years.

Granderson is the aberration, not Gonzo.  He never had a 100 RBI season before, only hit 30 HRs (exactly) once before ... no, Gonzo was always a hitting star.

Are you trying to say Gonzo wasn't?

RBI by Gonzo ... ties Granderson at 103 .... bye bye Curtis.

If Ells gets to 30HR and something like 45 SB's he'll be in the conversation but I think the award goes to Bautista, Granderson or AGon ... in no particular order.

Gonzo 5 Hrs in 3 days.

Keep dismissing him.  He still has the most hits and highest BA, and most total bases.   And will pass granderson in RBIs soon.

The slump is over, get used to it ... Gonzo is back.

Granderson, BTW he has 119 Runs scored; this exceeds the 2nd closest player by 26 runs (Ellsbury, at 93); nothing to sneeze at. FWIW, I think Gonzo is the MVP, but leave it to a few RS fans to not give a Yankee his due; he worked hard with Kevin Long, (considered arguably the best hitting coach in the game) since last yr to improve vs lefties, which has been a successful adjustment. And, although I don't agree with him, long time RS columnist Peter Gammons says Granderson is the MVP, at least so far.

MVP this year should go to Jacoby Ells. with his OPS

Not many MVP's have OPS in .800's. Not going to happen and delusional wishful thinking.

Huh?  I've seen two games in which Granderson didn't run-out hit balls.  Both games were with Detroit about three years ago, and they came in the same series.

The first was a Texas-Leaguer that dropped in right field.  He almost got thrown out at first; had he run from the onset, he would've been standing on second base

The second was a ground ball to SS that got bobbled and he still got thrown out at first.

He's a phenomenal player, one of my favorites.  But please don't post out of ignorance.

    As of 8/26

    Granderson 103 RBIs
    Gonzo  102 RBIs

Wanna place bets on who ends up with more?  The slump is over.  No more fooling around, Gonzo carries the Sox, the best hitting team in baseball, into the playoffs.

Boston leads in BA (.279 to .270)

The Yankees lead in Runs, HRs, RBIs, BBs, SBs, OBP, OPS and the Yankees have played two fewer games.

I know you're excited that A gon has hit a few homers in Texas, but shouldn't he be doing that?

Problem with naming Verlander the MVP is that Weaver (15-6, 2.034 CG and 2 SHO and .97 WHIP) could still beat him out for the Cy Young award.  And if the Angels overtake Texas for 1st place, Weaver will have as much to do with that as anyone on that team.

Give the MVP to the best every day hitter.  As of today, I would give the nod to Bautista.  Hopefully by the end of September it will be indisputably AGon.  That would mean he raked the last 5 weeks of the season and the Sox win the division.

    Baustista.
    Ave: .314
    OBP: .454
    Slug: .649
    Home Runs: 37
RBIs and Runs Bautista cannot control, he's the MVP in every definition, performance definitely, team performance, I think there's no arguing that Toronto is a below 500 team without him. You shouldn't have to wear a Sox, or Yankees jersey to win the MVP.

Not such a feat with the numbers Agon had in July and the first 3 weeks of August.  Granderson has been in a slump recently.  To me, Bautista, Ells, Pedroia, Agon and Granderson all have pretty good (and just about equal as of now) shots at it.

Hey, Grandy is having a stellar year.  And I certainly think Verlander is having the sort of season in which you can easily give the MVP to a pitcher.  I am fine if either of these guys get the award over Adrian.  Just as long as Adrian is putting on a Red Sox uniform every night.
