I wish I thought other owners would learn from this.... but I'm afraid they won't.

Having the right to do something doesn't make it the right thing to do.

    I hope they do!

It may keep Ellsbury afforadable. Wink

Obviously,  there's something disfunctional about this team...  they have'nt been relevant in 10 years and they spend money.  I think it's time for Sciosa to move on IMOP.  There's no doubt teams get stale after so many years with the same manager at the helm(Francona/Torre),  and need a change, no matter if it's the manager at fault or not.

The albatross in the room is that Pujols contract,  but they knew what they were chancing when they gave him the money and years.  Apparentely they have a big local tv contract,  like NESN/MASN/YES and needed the big name and were willing to absorb the later years of said albatross' contract....  but did'nt expect it to start after year #1 of his service.

Yeah,  a new field manager should jump-start this team...  but it would have to be someone that has King Alberts blessing.  I don't believe LaRussa would be interested in another regime,  but LaRussa's opinion of who would be a good fit would go a long way with Albert.

Something better be done soon if this team believes it can share the L.A. fanbase with it's NL rival Dodgers,  cuz they are being left in the dust by Big Blue as-of-late.

I believe that is what will happen S5, at least affordable in terms of the length of the contract. I could see Ellsbury getting at most five years and possibly less. As I wrote elsewhere, an incentive laden contract of four years with a team option for a fifth that starts in the neighborhood of $14M per year is fine. GMs, I believe, are not dumb and have watched with interest what has happened to teams that have tied up wads of money for many years.

Are they still called, "The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim"?  The stadium is located in Anaheim but they are called the Los Angeles Angels?!?  Oh well, who cares.   LOL

Here's the problem.  The NYY signed ARod to the worst contract in sports' history.  10 years, ~ $250M or so.  Signed him to a point 6 years past when most players retire.

So Moreno doesn't get scared.  He figures, what are the chances of two identical contracts working out that bad?  So he figues the law of averages says he should do the same thing.

Seriously, they look like they do planning or analysis.  They're in the hole for ~$65M for Pujols, Hamilton, and Wells this year, for 36 HRs.

The LAA payroll for 2016 is $107M already, and that includes only 5 players.
