Orioles targeting Hamilton and Cody Ross

The Baltimore Orioles aren’t content with being one of baseball’s most surprising stories of 2012. This winter, they plan to pursue the biggest free agent hitter: Josh Hamilton.

Hamilton is on the Orioles’ list of targets for left field, according to a source with knowledge of the organization’s plans. Hamilton has started more games in left field than center over the past three seasons, and the Orioles have an opening there now that Nate McLouth has become a free agent.

Baltimore also has some interest in free-agent outfielder Cody Ross, the source said. Ross would be a cheaper option than Hamilton and had success in the American League East with the Boston Red Sox this year.

He'd be a nice draw to get some backsides in the seats at Camden Yards.Plus,Duquette isn't shy about making big deals for the right slugger, even if he has issues (see Manny Ramirez).

      I think it's a very real possiblity

especially with hamilton.. when word on the street is that he isn't going to be able to get a 5-7 year deal from most teams he may sign with the team who is willing to take the risk. the O's certainly could be that team

Orioles should be focused on pitching, I think Greinke would be a good fit with them. Do they really expect that rotation of no names to carry them to the playoffs again? I don't.

The Orioles got a taste of winning this year and are looking for a couple of upgrades at different positions to keep themselves contending. They liked having Baltimore fans at their home games for a change.

whats no unreasonable about that? all "big names" were no names at one point...... and its not like their "no name" staff are all in their late 30's, in decline and out the door. they're young and hungry. improvement is expected. greinke would be a welcome addition but i don't think he is their number 1 target. hamilton? definitely.

um.. there are other ways to get TOR guy besides signing a FA you know.. They can trade for one and O's might still have to pay large amount of money.

Wow. Can you imagine if Hamilton winds up on the Orioles? Who would have thunk it? The Orioles are becoming a completely different team, and it seems to me to be overnight.

Who knows? Josh may just want to be on a team like the Orioles.

Interesting question is if you were an all-star player, would you rather be one player an all-star team or be the star on one team?
