This would be a good signing. Two years with a team option for a third. Maximum.

dempester would be a terrible signing, without question, did the sox fo not see how hard he got hit while he was on texas? he is a NL pitcher, he does not belong in the AL. This is a joke, anibal sanchez is still on the board and yet we are trying to sign a 35 yr old NL pitcher who got destroyed in the AL last year.

Your kidding right? he is absolutely brutual. Once he came over to the AL, he was bombed all over the place. Floyd is a better fit and option then him. Hell, I would even over pay for Lohse. -

If Mr. Henry allows a Dempster signing and we don't look to improve any further in the starting rotation he may as well sell the team. This would certainly convince me anyway that this team may never get back on track. -

Man this off season just keeps getting worse. Throwing bad money at an over the hill pitcher on top of all the other underwhelming signings.

Last season Jon Lester posted a WAR of 3.3 in 33 starts, Felix Doubront a WAR of 2.1 in 29 starts, Clay Buchholz a WAR of 1.9 in 29 starts and Josh Beckett a WAR of 1.8 in 21 starts for the Red Sox.

To prove your point. Dempster has pitched in his Career, 37 games in AL Parks....30 of which were starts. He has 12 Wins, 11 Losses, 2CG, 3 SVs with an ERA of 5.20 and a WHIP of 1.50 in those games. 179.9 IP and he gave up 30 HR's. That is basically a seasons worth of Data......albeit spread out over time. At 35-37, can we expect better than those stats? Why would you? Our In house candidates, Morales, Aceves, etc.....would be better than that.....how is this signing even being considered. -

If this signing happens, I will offically crown this front office the worst front office in Baseball. I mean seriously? Nice job on spending that new financial flexibility. Bums!

hill, look at Dempsters overall record in the AL and his age. This would certainly not improve our staff over Lackey in our division.

He's a .500 pitcher averaging 200 inn. a year. He'll be 36 at the start of next season.
He knows how to pitch, how to keep his team in the game and he will be a great influence on the younger pitchers. I would say get Marcum or Jackson or trade for Floyd and trade either Lester or Buch whichever one can get the best return. Trade Ells and sign The Splendid Swisher and we should be good to go.

How about 1.5M for Francis and 2M offer to Saunders, and 1M minor league spring training contract offers or FA if not on MLB roster by late spring to Bedard, Lowe, Harden, J. Shanchez and Wang and continue development of Barnes and Webster or De La Rosa and simply go with a budget of less than 10M for one season of 3 or 4 veteran 3rd tier and dumspter vet profiles for one season and go with:
