It's November 2009, and I remember all I could think about that offseason was, "I wish the Red Sox would cough up the cash and sign Left Fielder Matt Holliday." Thinking back on it now that may have been the best decision the Red Sox could have made in the last 3 or 4 offseasons. The riple affect that it could of had may have caused a different outcome to this team. I understand that hind sight is 20/20, but I thought signing Matt Holliday made so much sense that I seen no reason why the Red Sox wouldn't do it. Think about it...
Matt Holliday was only 28 (soon to be 29) years old. He played Left Feild, he was a right handed power bat. He was in his prime obviously being 29 years Old. If the Red Sox signed Matt Holliday they most likely would of not signed John Lackey, there would of been no need to sign Mike Cameron. By not signing Mike Cameron there would of been zero reason to move Jacoby Ellsbury to Left Field. The Red Sox would of not had any reason to Sign Carl Crawful the next offseason. They could of possibly used the money saved from that and aggresively entered the Cliff Lee sweep stakes. Like I said hind sight is 20/20, and we can't predict the future who knows Matt Holliday could of tore his ACL and may never have been the same again, he could of been worse than Carl Crawford but looking at his stats I don't believe so.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7311/splits;_ylt=AnRc9eeCw7ksxHg8eWRZCtaFCLcF?year=career&type=BattingMatt Holliday has been fairly consistant throughout his carreer, he would of been the Right Handed #4 batter that we need hitting behind Adrian Gonzalez. He's been consistant his whole career decently durable, hitting between 20 - 35 Home Runs with 100 RBI's and a .380 - .400 OBP. He hits both Lefties and Righties very well and probably would average .300/30/100/.390/.600/1.000 something along those lines.
Sorry this was just something I always found interesting and wonder what other people thought about signing Matt Holliday at the time. I was not on these boards in 2009/2010 and I'm not sure what you guys thought about it, but I'm intersted to hear what you guys think.
