  I'd be surprised if he made the opening day roster, but i wouldn't be shocked if he was called up before the 4th of July, in which case they could get by with Sweeney or Kalish until then if they do trade Ells and don't sign Pagan, Bourn or someone of that nature.

1. Peavy - first requires his option to be declined by ChiSox, which is likely to happen...so he'll likely go to the highest bidder without a player cost.
2. Davis - Mets 1B will cost the Sox some decent prospects to acquire
3. Gordon - The Royals would want a high price for him also, but he might be worth it as the team's future LF.

Some of these guys...Bogarts, Bradley Jr., Barnes, and De La Rosa...would need to be included to get Davis and/or Gordon.

I agree it's highly unlikely the White Sox pick up that option.  I like Peavy because it will likely be a 2 to 3 year deal in the mid to high teens, (just a guess), which is the kind of short term, big dollar deal that won't kill you, especially now that they have so much flexibility.  3/50 would be reasonable.  They aren't going to be in on a Greinke, who will likely get 5 to 6 years at over 100 million.  Big dollars are OK, as long as the years are minimal.

Do you see Dodgers offering Greinke after Kershaw deal and the trade? Do you see Angels offering  Greinke snd Haren? Who else w/b in on Greinke? Rsngers?

Anyone think the Sox are going to pay Peavy $25M/yr? Ha!

Dodgers will definitely be in on Greinke, the Angels have made it clear they want to sign him, so my guess it will come down to those two teams, with the Rangers an outside shot.  It's been beat to death on this board why he would never sign with Boston and why the Sox would never consider 100+ million for him.  The Dodgers pretty much have unlimited resources and the Angels will unlikely retain both Santana AND Haren, so money won't be an issue.

The top ones out there are Hamilton , Greinke , Shields and Peavy.  They all come with a heavy price and some risk.  Most of the other names I see do not significantly improve the ballclub.  Will be interesting to see which direction the Sox take.

I think the Sox could overpay for Peavy a little being it would only be a 2-3 year deal. I also like Justin morneau for his final year at 14mm.

Ike davis might not cost as much as some think. The Mets really need bullpen help as theyve stated. They already have a 1b to replace Davis, so someone like Morales or Miller plus an Alex Wilson and maybe another lower level prospect. Possibly Daniel Bard could be mentioned as well.

The Sox have too many LHP in their pen already, so parting with a couple for a young cost-controlled 1b who wont be a FA til 2017 would be a wise move IMO...
