    #5

Rocco Baldelli, Nick Punto, now Jonny Gomes...Is there some running joke in the front office to give Nomar's number only to bad players? I understand it won't be retired due to him not meeting the qualifications, but they wouldn't let Josh Beckett, a pretty good player at the time have Roger Clemens number, who's pretty much despised in Boston....but they give Nomar's number to anyone who asks for it?

    You call a 200-game-winner a bad player?!

    #5 is George Scott's number.

    Always will be.

The Sox were correct to re-circulate Nomah's number to other players...he left town a quitter and doesn't deserve any special treatment from the Sox organization. I feel this way about Clemens and Ramirez as well...they've re-circulated Manny's 24, but are holding out on Clemens...the last player that may have wanted #21 was Buchholz, but I think he shied away because of Clemens legacy here...although I feel he burnt his bridges with Boston when he chose the Yanks over them when he signed for that partial season a few years ago.

agree on #5, BOOMAH!  But you have to be of a certain vintage to appreciate that.

Don't know why they haven't retired Boggs's number.  Probably for the same reason that Clemens's isn't retired.  Yet, Clemens's number has not been used, and Boggs's is.

Another thread about nothing. Isn't Modano a Jays or Detroit fan and here he is here obsessing about the #5 on Sox unforms. The forum needs better input than this.

Nope, Red Sox fan. I haven't taken whatever test I'm supposed to take and pass to make it official though. I'm Canadian, but I can't stand the Blue Jays. I did get Saturday afternoon Tiger games when I was a kid so I have a bit of a soft spot for them.

I'm not a fan. It's not so much because he rejected the Sox (they did reject him first, but if he had the interest in fitness he development not long after they may not have), it's that he comes off as a really, really unlikable person.
