Surprised to see Iggy on the list and Brentz getting kicked out. Exciting we have strong farm again with Bogaerts at #20, JBJ and Barnes both cracking top 40.
I don't understand why so many people have soured so quickly on Iggy. He is still very young, and his ML sample size is way too tiny to judge by.
I think it has to do with the fact that since he was signed people have been worried about his bat and has yet to do anything to make people believe he is going to just start hitting.
^^^ if he was doing well in AAA and just struggling to make things happen in the MLB it would be a different story. But he hasn't even shown that he can hit AAA pitching ocnsistently. If him and ciriaco were the only SS on the roster i would be OK with iggy starting but now that drew is in the mix it seems like a no brainer to me. I'm not sour on him, just unimpressed.
you can't argue that he's MLB ready and couldn't use another year in AAA..
"Unimpressed" over 80 some odd MLb PAs?
You're Ok with Ciriaco's 3,000+ minor league PAs and sub .300 OBP?
not just his MLB PAs but his AAA MiLB PAs too..... and as i've said, if it were down to iggy and ciriaco i would give the job to iggy. Now that drew is in the discussion it seems pretty obvious to me. Start the ML'er, keep the struggling prospect in AAA and ciriaco in a UIF role. Re-examine at the trade dealine and trade drew if iggys bat warrants it.
At the start of the offseason i was ready to see what iggy could do in a starting role but only because there was no alternative to him who is considerably better... in a perfect world i would have given him another year in AAA before annointing him FT SS. My wish came true i guess, we brought in a considerable upgrade and iggy can continue to develop his game. looks like a win-win to me.
I'd still rather have Iggy as our FT SS and the money spent on Drew going towards a SP upgrade, but that's a done deal.
I understand your views on Iggy, but to those who love Ciriaco and think Iggy's minor league numbers are poor, Iggy hit .269 in the minors last year with a .318 OBP last year. Pedro's career minor league numbers are: .272/.299. These posters have fallen in love with Pedro over a 272 PA sample size with the Sox and a ML sample size of less than 315 PAs with a ML career .319 OBP. They have made judgements on Iggy based on what? About 80 some odd ML PAs and a few hundred minor league PAs in which he improved from .235/.285 to .266/.318 in a year?
