[QUOTE]Dare I say this before the game is over? The Red Sox bullpen actually looks like it's turning into one of the team's strenghts. Of course, as sure as you say that......BTW, has Babe been banned again? His earlier post has been deleted along with all responses. What gives?

I think you're right regarding the pen. Since Wheeler came off of the DL, he's pitched well. With a few exceptions, Albers, Bard and Paps have been solid all season long. Aceves has been a good long man/spot starter. Right now, Jenks is the only one that makes me cringe.

agreed , albers, aceves, even wheeler of late, and bard have done well.  And with russel of the spankee making the all stars--enough to bring out the best from pedey, tek, etc. from here on

Babe's posts are getting deleted faster and faster now.  It's pretty funny, really.

    Yook is one tough player!

...the career leader in HBP, but the red sox season record belongs to baylor, hit by 35 pitches during the 1986 season on his way to 267 in his career, 4th all-time.   Baylor had 687 PAs in 1986, meaning he was hit by a pitch in about 5% of his PAs.  In his best season HBP wise Youkilis was hit by 16 in 588 PAs or only 2.7% of the time.

Cameron traded to the Marlins. Good for him, I hope he does well there.

For what it's worth, Joe MacDonald (ESPN) tweeted that "normal" lat strains (whatever that means) usually take two-to-four weeks to recover from. Thus, it seems like a DL stint is in Jon's future.

Absolute worst-case scenario is that he tore it off the bone like Jake Peavey did last year in which case he's done for the year.

Since they're calling it a strain, let's just hope he's healthy and back by the end of the month. We really need Clay, Wake and Lackey (can't believe I said that) to step up now or the offense to get on another roll where they just hammer people.

It looks like one way or another, to softy's dismay, Wake will remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

Kinda hard for buch to "step up" when he's on the DL......

And hoping for she-lackey to step up is laughable.

Re: 7/5 Game Thread: Cecil vs. Lester

Well, the break is coming, so two weeks would mean he'd miss basically one start. I don't think he tore it off the bone like Peavey. If he did that, he'd have shown a reaction on the field. Four weeks would be tougher to deal with. He's miss probably 3-4 starts then.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: 7/5 Game Thread: Cecil vs. Lester : My question on that is, what is meant by "strain"? Is it DL, or is it a day to day thing? The Red Sox tend to be way over cautious with stuff like this, could we hope that the strain is minor and he was removed for precautionary reasons? He sure as heck didn't show any signs of an injury when he left.

Did they say what side? Left or right? If it's one the left it may be a bigger problem because throwing involves that muscle.

I realize that Clay is on the DL and is seeing the doctor tomorrow. The plan was form him to come back after the all-star break. With Lester out now, we need Clay back ASAP and for him to be on his game. We can't have our hopes resting on Beckett and four rainouts.

    Thanks ... oy

Hope it isn't too big a thing.

Is the preparation under Young that much different than under Farrell...or am I just thinking there are more pitching injuries this season than last?

Serious inquiry, not just knocking anybody.
