Must be a mistake. Tek 2nd?
Drew/Cam near the bottom?
I fear this will incur the wrath of the ever-banned... -

This team is unbeatable when firing on all cylinder's. Right now they look like the 07 Patriots, pure offensive dominance (pitching has been pretty good also).

VTek's sample size is smaller over the same timeframe used here, but he's nearly even with Salty in PAs over the last 28 days. -

I'm confused. I thought Tek was the "back-up". -

Remember Saltalamacchia missed a couple of games with the flu. So instead of 60/40 they were 55/45. -

So, 60/40 constitutes a FT catcher/back-up? -

I don't care what they call it: it's working fine right now. -

harness, I would say 60/40 is starter, backup, especially at the cather position. Some teams will go with a 4/1 personal catcher split, and then have the backup play on day games following a night game. The Sox are fortunate enough to have a veteran catcher who can handle the staff, so he can be the personal catcher for 2 pitchers. I see nothing wrong with that.
Also, you did not say "full-time/back-up", you asked that Tek was the backup. Playing fewer games than the starter is the definition of a back-up, at least my definition. -

I think it's all semantics. Players that platoon vs RHPs/LHPs are called "platoon players" not FT, and yet they may play about 70% of the time.
I'd say Salty is the starter and VTek is the back-up, but playing 60% to me, if not FT. -

Back to the OP, this team is an offensive machine. If they all hit to their career norms, they could be nigh well unstoppable. -

Yes I did, Fizsh. I said "So, 60/40 constitutes a FT catcher/back-up?".
If Tek plays 80 games to Salty's 82, is he a "back-up"?
After all, he played fewer games...
Tek has played in 31 games this year.
Salty in 42.
You are right when you say it's a matter of definition. By definition, a "back-up" spells the FT catcher. A FT catcher generally plays 110-135 games, by baseball standards.
Salty/Tek looks more like an uneven tandem to me.

Salty has caught just under 8% of th innings this year. It would probably hve been about 60% without the injury. -

In your original post, harness, you said "I'm confused. I thought Tek was the "back-up". You did not say Salty was full-time. Full-time means the player plays almost all the games, to me. Very few catchers are full-time catchers. It is the demands of the job and the way teams protect them now.
But you know, it is not worth arguing about. I feel like have have intruded into some private joke that your original comment was intended to be. I apologize. -

Scutaro has moved into 5th at .982 (smaller sample size).
Sutton ha moved closer to .800 (.772).
Drew has fallen below .600 (.536). -

good point Baborino! however which was really the biggest heartbreaker of all heartbreakers? us losing to the gints, or what happened back in 04.
the defense rests!
