can Ichiro pitch, I know he has a strong  arm. I am sure he could crack the yankees rotation.

He's too "clean". wouldn't be allowed there, also doesn't meet the weight requirements.

Seattle should take more, but lower rated prospects for an injury prone guy like Bedard.

thats waayyy to much imo to get Bedard, i dont know why the Doubront trade rumors persist, he is too young and talented to give up on especially for a guy (Bedard) that makes J.D. Drew look like Lou Gherig.

Way, Way too much for Bedard

I'm not saying I approve of this trade, nor am I particularly pessimistic, but I'm trying to understand it.  Lets say the Sox do aquire Bedard, and have reason to believe he can stay healthy.  If Bedard fit into their long term plans then the rotation looks like

    Lester
    Beckett
    Buccholz
    Bedard
    Lackey

assuming Reddick is part of the deal, then Anthony Raunado becomes expendable in  a trade.  Could the Sox potentially pull of a blockbuster moving Raunado and possibly a Kalish/Brentz/Jacobs + another pitching prospect or position player (so many to name) and aquire a big bat like a pence/bourne/upton or possibly Quentin.

I really see this potentially taking many different routes, but one has to assume if Reddick is gone in a trade for Bedard that the Sox plan on picking up a big name RH RF

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: 950 KJR reporting Red Sox and Mariners agree to overall parameters : Steve, is that Softy saying that?  I am not sure I trust him that much.  For what it is worth, though, Geoff Baker has the Red Sox as the favorite to get Bedard.  Even going as far as opining he was skipped for his scheduled start in Boston so the Sox wouldn't have to face him.  The Sox want to see him pitch well, but not against them.   Edit: For those readers of this board, Softy is the nickname of Dave Mahler, not our beloved poster on this board.

Yes. I'm inclined to believe him on this one because there's a lot of chatter from other sources about a Boston-Seattle deal. Ken Rosenthal, Buster Olney, Jayson Stark and various other rumor-mill people cited here are all talking about it. If Reddick is the centerpiece from Seattle's point of view, I have to think that the Red Sox are closing in on a significant outfielder to replace him. Pence would make more sense than Quentin because the White Sox are still in the race.

why don't we keep Reddick, and trade lavarnway , iglesias and others for Hanley Ramirez.  That would improve our rt hand batting without losing too much of what we will need in the next couple of years

I'd love to see HanRam in LF, but we can't trade CC to anyone, so...

HanRam is not a SS for our future.

Lavarnway may be our C/DH of the future.

I don't even want HanRam.  He may be the most overrated player in the game.  The Marlins can keep him.

SPC: I disagree 100%. His SS fielding is highly questionable, but his bat is buttah.

His early season 2011 numbers were effected by injury. He has reverted to his old form in July.

He's just 27, and has 3-5 years of prime left to go.

THE CRAWFORD DEAL WILL CRIPPLE OUR ABILITY TO TRADE FOR
THE NEXT FEW SEASONS... THIS GUY JUST CAN'T PERFORM AT
THE LEVEL WE EXPECTED OF HIM ON THE BIG STAGE. HE WAS
OK IN TAMPA WHERE NO ONE REALLY PUT PRESSURE ON HIM,
BUT AT FENWAY IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT, HE JUST CANNOT
GET IT DONE. HE HAS A FLAWED SWING AND DOES NOT KNOW
THE STRIKE ZONE. THE ONLY GUY I WANT FROM SEATTLE IS
FELIX, AND UNFORTUNATELY WE WOULD HAVE TO GIVE UP THE
ENTIRE FARM SYSTEM. THAT AIN'T HAPPENING. IF THE SOX
WANT TO GIVE US QUENTIN FOR REDDICK, THEY WOULD HAVE
TO THROW IN A BULLPEN ARM, AND WE WOULD HAVE TO GIVE
UP DOUBRONT OR A TRIPLE A ARM. I AM NOT SURE THAT
MAKES SENSE, ALTHOUGH QUENTIN WOULD BE THE RIGHTY
BAT WE NEED. I WOULD RATHER GO FOR WILLINGHAM.

Erik Bedard lasted only an inning and a third against the Rays tonight, walking four and surrendering three hits and at least three runs.

Time for the Red Sox to abandon any plans or to buy low?

I'd rather see us get someone who is a solid #3 guy and reliable.

Philly just got Pence for dirt, and they will have him for several years.

I'd like to see us get someone who is not a rental, not an injury waiting to happen, not someone recovering from an injury, and someone better than Bedard.

Seattle would be foolish to not trade Bedard. They should take even less than Kalish: not Reddick.
