    Re: A-Gon Manny-Esq?

That .500 average against the BO's and the .476 vs the White Sox inflates his stats.
He was a .284 hitter coming into this season, and some here were saying he was the best hitter in baseball! He was a lock to hit 50 homers!
40 RBI and 10 homers post break are pretty pedestrian numbers.
Very fine player and a good addition for years to come, for sure, but not a superstar, yet.

so what you're saying is you bought into all the jibber-jabber written in the offseason and as a result you're disappointed?  jeezus!  no one's ever a lock for 50 HR.  he was the best hitter in the AL for like 3-4 months.  not a superstar?   he's leading the AL in hitting and hit 30,36,40,31 HR in the NL on a bad team the last 4 years.  he's also leading the highest scoring team in baseball in RBI.  criminy!  what do you want??

    And ...  if he weren't perfect ...

just carrying the team all by himself in the first two months ...

he heard it from our "savvy" fans.

First complaint was, sure he's hitting for average, but I'd like to see more power.  DUH

Shoulder surgery in the off season ... and he was knocking in everyone but Hugh Heffner's grandmother ...

But still we had whiners here saying stupid stuff when he was hitting almost .400 ... hhhhwwwwhhhhaaaaatttt???

       Playing Gold Glove 1B but ... he's slow ....

               Huh?

Leading the universe in RBIs for three months .... not good enough.   Not enough .... power.  Tranlsate = HRs ....  ten he went on a typical AGon power tear and no one is going YAHOOO .... only, "well, it's about time."

You wonderful, loving, supportive, "fans" just keep finding reasons to knock the guy, so why wouldn't he not hustle down 1b line?

Now wait, he had a leg injury and is playing with it ... but that shouldn't slow him down ...

Good Gawd Awmighty .... does it NEVER stop?

I know he's slow, but so are a lot of other guys that bust it down the line. One of the many annoying aspects of this team. And just when Lackey puts up a "decent" start against a Triple A team he opens his mouth and ruins it. All the media is talking about now is Lackey, and not who they should be talking about...Ellsbury.

Some fans will never be happy, who cares if Adrian is slow or if hes not hitting right now, neither is half the team like Papi.

Look at the season AGon had, where would we be without him?   He has NOBODY protecting him now, Youk, the RH power bat, is OUT.

Gonzo plays a killer first base, the best IMO.  Who cares if he doesn't run out a ground ball, are you serious????

You are a POC if you even think about bad mouthing Gonzo.   Talk about ingrates.  Yell

    Posted by thepeskypole6[/QUOTE]

Well pesky, let's phrase it another way then, production-wise are you happy with AGons September numbers...because this is crunch time and 4HRs and 13RBIs are not earth shattering...whereas the leadoff hitter has 9HRs and 22RBIs during the same timespan.

I know Jacoby's been lights out all year...but wouldn't you have expected AGon's production numbers to be greater than Ellsburys?

I hate to be critical of a guy who stats have been great, but I for one expected more from him, especially in September. If it is the calf injury that is draining his power then fine...but I would have thought his numbers would take off in NY and with Baltimore coming, as both parks are very friendly to LH batters.

It drives me nuts that he and Ortiz jog to 1st instead of running out ground balls, but a bigger issue is the fact that he hasn't hit in the big games against the Yankees or the Rays. Having said that, he isn't the main reason the Sox have played so poorly coming down the stretch---it's been the lack of good starting pitching and the collapse of Bard.

Very fine?  VERY FINE?  He is listed as a top 10 for MVP. You are a real bright one.  Keep up the good work.

Adam Dunn hit 40 homers four years running, and had a ton of RBI for a mediocre Reds team.
Did anyone call him a superstar?
Your standards need to be raised.
My point was, typical Sox nation overrating their own players. He's good, but not great . Period. Great are guys like Pujols, Braun, Hamilton, and Cabrera.
While you're at it, look up Joey Votto's career stats. His OPS dwarfs Gonzalez's..406 OBP,. 551 SP and .314 career BA, and last year's MVP.
The guy having the superstar season on the Sox is Jacoby Ellsbury, and nobody else is close.
All sides is two posters for you? Wow! Please excuse me for not getting sticky shorts when talking about Agon.

Agon tears it up in the field.  He seems lile a guy that gives as much as he can.  He's beat up as well - shoulder, calf.

Give him some credit for not pitching a fit when he got moved fro the #3 spot to the #5 spot.

Not saying it's right , but far many players only go half speed if it is routine grounder, they have been saying the same thing about Pujols his whole career in St.L.

As of today Votto is at .954 and Gonzy is at .955.

True Joey had a SICK year last year but bottom line is they've both been over .900 OPS the last 3 years -- you're splitting hairs to defend yourself.

of course when Manny was beat up, most of you a holes accused him a faking it. We are a long way from 2004's team which had heart.

    Re: A-Gon Manny-Esq?

Manny was a very good hitter who used PED's and rarely hustled.  AGon is a serious player who is also slow, plus dealing with injuries.  He did something Manny would never, never have done--he agreed to play out of position to allow Ortiz to play 1B during that June-July road trip to Pittsburgh, Philly, and Houston.  He loves playing every day--Manny hated the idea.  Manny was the better hitter and certainly helped, but was and is, we now know, a really rotten person.

What are you talikg about, you lobotomized catatonic?
Manny hit .385 with a 1.044 OPS vs. LA with a walkoff homer in 2004.
.300 vs. Yanks ( no RBI, which sucked)
In the World Series, .412 with a 1.088 OPS and MVP!
Overall, a post season that any player would envy.
But you in your galactic stupidity said he STUNK! MORON!

You just got baked, calling Manny's 2004 post season, "stunk". Try looking up things before looking like an dope.
