    Sign Drew

    Sign Tanaka

Trade JBJ,WMB and Bucky to Miami for Stanton.

If you're going to go this route, how about?

    Trade Dempster +$3.25M for a mid-level prospect (save $10M).

Trade Peavy for a decent prospect (save $14.5M).

Trade Gomes & Lavarnway for a decent prospect (save $5M)

    Total saved: ~$29.5M

    Sign Tanaka for $80M/4 with team option 5th year at $20M with $5M buyout and 6th year at $16M with $3M buyout. Basically, it's a $85M/4 deal ($21.25M) or $103M/5 or $116M/6.

    Sign Drew for $8.25M/1

    Total cost: ~29.5M

Then, trade Middy, JBJ, Betts, de la Rosa & the propsects from above trades for Stanton.

    The 25 man roster:

    1) Victorino

    2) Pedroia

    3) Ortiz

    4) Stanton

    5) Napoli

    6) Nava/Carp

    7) Bogaerts

    8) Drew

    9) Pierzynski

    Bold (immodest) proposal Moon . . . . I like it!

But can we substitute Butler or somebody for Lavarnway?  A catcher still with some upside (potential) and with some major league experience, and two older (therefore greater injury liklihood) catchers in front of him, wouldn't mind keeping him around.

I think Butler or Vazquez could be a capable ML back-up day one. Swihart may be ready by June.

I am all for players trying to get the most out there.  I also think that players should want to be on the field opening day for the their team who just won it all.  It is time for the sox to move on and give the job to Boggie. The sox made drew a nice offer, he should wake up and take it.

[/QUOTE] The only problem with Lavarnway is he can't catch! It would be the same as returning Salty to the position. At any rate Swihart and Vasquez will be manning the catching duties in Boston shortly, and if they can't cut it Denney is about two years behind them.

sign Drew...I would if it's apparent that no one else will and we stand to lose the compensation pick...

sign Tanaka...tough one...I'm not as bullish on him as many here are? 20M for a guy that many compare to Kuroda who's a middle of the rotation starter vs Darvish a legit ace in the making, gives me pause. I would be more inclined to spend the moneys to lock up Lester and look at extending Lackey's deal....if they can sign both Lester and Tanaka without having to sacrifice depth. I'd be less weary of signing a pitcher that has never thrown a pitch in a big league game...

trading for Stanton...I get that the kid has monster potential? trading four prospects and including a a proven top of the rotation pitcher for a player that after 4 years in the big leagues as been oft-injured. Who career to date when projected over 162 games has a slash line of.265/.354/.535/.889 with 39 HR/97 RBI one who projects to strikeout 189 times in 663 plate appearances. Seems a tad much? I like Stanton be he's not Miguel Cabrera.

Dell for Ponder? I'm all for some eye candy during broadcast...as long as they're not clueless...

I felt the earth shudder beneath me, Moon, as I read your proposal.  Whew.  I guess I have bought into our prospects too much for the notions you present.  It looks good in the end, but I would miss the championship team members (you know my predeliction there...) But it shows you're still got a broad grasp on a larger picture than I look at.

The Marlins stump me.  I cannot see any particular plan for success there.  I know the ownership group has chamged since the days of the win a WS and sell off, but I don't get their/its mo.
