Moon, need your opinion on the Iggy/drew debate. What do you think about the play today? one in particular comes to mind, halfway-late in the game (do not recall the inning) Iggy took a few steps to his right and sort of "fell" on the ball. Think Drew makes that play? i've polled a few other posters about it with mixed results. Personally, i think he does because it wasn't so much a rangy play where Iggy has a vast advantage over him but it looked tough nonetheless.

I just started watching the game. I almost always watch it on tape delay so as to avoid comercials. I'll let you know.

    enjoy the THUNDAH

Mef always kissing up to Moonslav. " I need your opinion ". Give me a break.  Iglesias is so far superior to Drew defensively that it should not even be discussed. Update : Iglesias hitting  .529 for Boston. Drew at .100 for Portland . I know , I know , small sample size. Small sample size is always used when it supports your position. Given the choice, would any GM in baseball take Drew over Iglesias ?  Can you even ask that question ?

    small sample size.

Moon is clearly one of the most respected posters here. Thats why his opinion is valued more than some others.

    Another kiss up .

if we were really kissing up to moon we would share his opinions and there wouldn't be a need to debate Iggy/Drew with him.. but once again, Logic escapes you DG.

You are kissing up to Moon in agreeing with him that there is an issue here concerning Drew vs. Iggy. No decision that involves comparing the two under a microscope is warranted at this time. You are perpetuating a useless, unwarranted debate about nothing.

a debate that you do not have to take part in. You don't even talk baseball so you have no point in being here besides trolling... This thread is for baseball discussions only. Please find another thread to troll.

Sure Pike. I know that debate has already kept me awake many nights already.

I haven't slep all week. I expected Iggy to have 3-4 more plays made over Drew, but he only has 2. What ever am I to do now?

mef429: I just saw the play. I'd guess Drew makes that play when healthy, but I'm still not sure he is there. I'll give you this one.

    Iggy +2

    Drew +1

Net: Iggy + 1 after 5 games played by Iggy

(small sample, but it's a pace of +30 over 150 games)

    Assume Iggy bats .220 (110 for 500), add 30 singles, and he's at .280 (140/500)

Well, I could let you know where Pike's secret bridge is located, but the danger there is that you might have to gaze upon the countenance of Pike as the last sight you ever saw on this earth. Better that you should try to find Medusa.

This debate is ridiculous. It is not just the ground balls. How about the scoop and tags on steal attempts ? The double plays turned ?  The popups caught?   Iglesias is not only far better than Drew , but he is ,arguably , the best defensive shortstop in the game.  Forget your sample sizes. Just watch him play.

I know that it is a long winter , snowy, and cloudy in Syracuse but you really need to get outside instead of being chained to your computer for 18 hrs. per day. Are you taking any vitamin D. Put your computer next to the window and get some of nature's vitamin D.  Two hot dogs, a bag of chips, and a coke are not good for one's diet. All of these threads go down the forum toilet every week. It's not worth it to waste your life here. We argued about Olerud and he is gone - all a waste of time.

I like to give credit where it is due. I have to hand it to you. You are really on your game the past couple of days. Some classic stuff.  A shame that more people don't appreciate it.

I will count all plays made by Iggy that I do not think Drew makes, including DP, pop-ups caught, tags made, etc...

I'm still guessing it will be 60-100 over 150 games, maybe more.

My mistake. They both make that play, so it's not a +1 for Drew.

It is Iggy +2 over 5 games (a pace of 60 over 150).

There have been some close plays, like the nice tag that maybe Drew doesn't make, but I'm trying to be conservative. (It might really be +3)

There is no need to count them. Just watch and enjoy. Iglesias is an exceptional talent. Nothing against Drew , but there really is no comparison.

No "need" for sure, but many doubted my claim that Iggy is so good, he'll make 60-100 more plays over 150 games. I enjoy watching SS defense, so it does not interfere with my fun.

I will continue to count until Iggy is sent down. You can choose to look away.

yes there is. the difference in offense between Drew and Iggy is vast just like the difference in defense. the question is, does Iggys extra defense outweigh Drews extra offense? Offensive numbers are easy to quantify. defense; not so much so if we know how many play Iggy makes over Drew we can determine who the better overall SS is.

our debate is not impeding you in any way. so please, if you don't have anything to add then just shut up and go back to drooling over small samples.

That play where Iggy dove on the ball and immediately composed himself to throw a strike to 2nd and they almost turned the double play with Rajai Davis burning down the line. That was impressive as heck. I don't care if Iggy is better...I just want to see more plays like that! This team is entertaining to watch.

Thanks. It is good that a few of us have some character and a backbone and do not follow the Pied Piper or succumb to mob behavior. Many here listen to commands from J-Bay telling them to jump and they say " How high?" J-Bay gets them into his corner by saying " Hi Joe, how is your mother's lumbago coming?" or  "Hi Fred, have you moved from Vermont to Florida yet?" or " Hi Babe, welcome back, I missed you". It is phony and disingenuous.

You're too funny, man..really!!!...LOL.  I spoke too soon when I said I'd send you one and only post.  I take it back.

You forgot his tatoos, comic books, and wardrobe of Red Sox sweatshirts and uniforms. I always wanted to go to a Sox game in full RS uniform with a play station 3 in one hand and a yo-yo in the other and a bag of video games.

It is sad what is happening to the youth of today. I wish there were more jobs available, so they could become productive citizens.  Then again , maybe the jobs are available, but it is much more fun to just while away the hours playing games. As long as your parents will support you.

Jobs ARE available for people who have majors tougher than basket weaving or personal hygiene.

I'm fortunate to have all of my kids employed or in college but I see a ton of young people who can't get full time jobs or jobs paying over $9 per hour. The average Walmart worker makes something like $8.67 per hour ( I'm quoting from memory...it may not be exactly that number ). One son is a Genetics major and to even have a realistic career in that field you have to maintain a GPA over 3.5. Lots of kids start out trying to be a doctor or something similar and they end up being a carpenter. You of all people should know how hard it is to pull that off Amp. Being a Pharmacist is difficult. A lot of kids don't cut it even why they do try.

I'm blessed with smart, hard working kids but all my kids played a ton of videogames also. I think more kids fail mainly because they couldn't afford to go to a good school and had to go the junior college route and work part time. We have had lots of employees who haven't graduated from college until they are 26-28 years old. And are deeply in debt when they do. It is a heck of a lot easier when mom and dad could put them through private school and help pay for their college. Amp, when you and I went to college we could get out of college with car loan type debt, even with zero help from our parents. Now it is over $100,000 or more for some kids. Kids today get the shaft. They really do.

I do agree that it is so important to pick a STEM type major ( Math / Science / Engineering ...etc ) as you might as well not bother with so many other majors. The job market is that tough now.
