    Gonzo will be like Wade Boggs, great numbers, no championships. He is an average hitter in the clutch, he is a great fielder as long as the ball is hit right at him, he has no range. He is the slowest base runner in Major League Baseball ,who is not a catcher.

    Typical he hit a home run today when they were 13 runs behind, meaning less .He did nothing last year when they were struggling in those 27 games down the stretch. Call anybody who questions his value what you will but , he is not the messiah. They will not win another pennant with him and Carl Crawford in the line up.

    Lackey  ,Gonzo ,  Crawford all fruitless signings. Surely Gonzo is the best of the three, but lots of garbage time numbers , and he can't run, that ain't gonna change.

    That is probably 1a, but that same post also had 1b:  make Lars Anderson a third baseman.

    Interesting theory, what's your backup?

    A 2-minute check of baseball-reference.com revealed to me his career averages of .293/.375/.513/.888 and the fact that his numbers do not change much in most situations.  His worst numbers are in the "Late & Close" category but that's hardly surprising as batters are facing the opposing teams' best, and fresh, relievers.  His best numbers are "Within 1 Run" and decline steadily through "Within 2/3/4 Runs".  I interpret that as "the closer the game, the better he has performed" over 9 years and 4,400 plate appearances.  How do you interpret that?

    Feel free to check his "clutch" splits here and disagree with me:

    1) You might want to check your figures on that;
    2) Ted Williams won 0 WS rings, Charlie Silvera won 6.  Do you think that means Charlie Silvera was better than Ted Williams?
