Could be another pitcher's duel.  Hopefully, this one goes in the RS win ledger. Go Sox!

Red Sox in 2013 World Series, Patriots in 2014 Super Bowl!

Hopefully game 1 was only a one game hiatus for the bats, and will not repeat again in this playoffs.  A couple more like this, and Sox will get bounced from the playoffs.

Sox have to score at least 3-5 runs per game to have a chance to win agasint these Tigers, who have perhaps the best starting pitching, and a mean lineup themselves.

Lester and the BP pitched well to limit the Tigers to just 1 run, but that run turned out to be 1 too many

Pete abraham is saying the Sox could start Carp at 1st...Boegarts at 3rd and Gomes in Left....I have no Problem vs a Rigthy if Carp is in for a struggling Naps and Boegaarts for Middlebrooks I can also see, if only to get him a shot and the Sox a spark....but despite the clutch hit Gomes has had this year it makes no sense to play Gomes for Nava vs a righty.....Navas vs righty numbers are fantastic..I would rather have Gomes on the bench to pinch hit for Drew vs a Lefty reliever(instead of Middlebrooks if he doesnt start)....We lost one game...now is not the time to panic and start switching what has wrked all year.

It'll be surprising if Nava sits.  But it won't be surprising if Naps does.

Hope Carp is on 1st.  When Naps is hot he's one of the best, but when he's not.....Nava in left against a righty has got to be a cinch.  One thing I thought should be considered is that our Sox hitters were gripping about strikes called on them a lot last night.  I say quit bettching about the calls and start swinging at anything in the strike zone, or especially close to the strike zone when you have 2 stikes against you.  It looked like they were taking to many of those border line pitches when they had 2 strikes on them last night and many of the calls went against them.  GO SOX!

Wow, so Carp looked terrible last night.

    Wow

So did Ellsbury, Pedey,Vic, Ortiz, Nap, Ross, Salty, Boggy, Drew, Nava, Middlebrooks....

Carp looked terrible?  Sanchez made EVERYONE look terrible.  This is why I don't bother finishing 95% of your stuff...Wait, you're right - JBJ would had gotten 2 hits last night LMAO

    Abraham is clueless!

Middlebrooks was oustanding in the field and has a more experienced and dangerous long ball bat, than Bogaerts.

Drew's done nothing but stink the 2012 and 2013 playoffs. Drew had the matchup he was supposed to excel in, and he stunk.

    Bogaerts should start at SS.

Bradley in CF, Ellsbury in LF and Nava at 1st. Oh, that's right, it's Carp, who looked terrible last night.

    Starting Lineup vs. Max:

Ellsbust CF  (1.667 OPS v. Max)

    Pedroia 2B (.824 OPS v. Max)

Ortiz DH  (1.689 OPS v. Max)

Salty C  (Pinch hit slot) (1.083 OPS v. Max)

Nava LF (Pinch hit slot) (.311 OPS v. Max)

    Middlebrooks 3B (.333 OPS v. Max b ut 2 RBI's in 6 career PA v. Max) (2013 12 HR vs. RHP)

Carp 1B (.582 OPS v. Max) (Pinch hit slot)

Bogaerts SS  (Never faced Max ) 1HR in 32 career MLB PA vs. RHP (Pinch hit slot)

Shane RF  (.500 OPS v Max) Shane has no business in 2 slot v. Max, turns lineup over nicely in bottom slot in this matchup

    Pinch Hitters:

LH S. Drew (.614 OPS vs. Max Nope!!!!!) can be plugged into 4, 5, 7 or 8 slots, and has done nothing in the 2012 and 2013 playoffs or last night to earn a start. Better value to team off the bench as plug in LH pinch hitter into 4 possible slots

LH Berry (.729 OPS v. RP)  can be plugged into 7 or 8 slots if not taken away as potential needed late innings pinch runner

RH Mike Napoli (.220 OPS vs. Max) can be plugged into 4, 5, 7 or 8 slots, has done nothing in 2013 post season to earn a start v RH starters with less than oustanding matchup history

RH David Ross (.900 OPS vs. Max Yep!!!) can be plugged into 4, 5, 7 or 8 slots

RH Jonny Gomes (.667 OPS vs Max Nope!!!)  can be plugged into 4, 5, 7 or 8 slots

Joke of the day !!!! Middlebrooks dangerous long ball bat......Also Naps could be pluged into the bench the rest of the way. Maybe the only slots you should do are at the casino.

BOS hitters saw most pitches in ML...DET starters averaged more pitches plate appearance than any other staff...could be huge factor in ALCS

With luck we have seen the last AB by KNap. His inconsistency and K rate make him the appendix of the team. I do not want to EVER see him in a Sox uniform again.

He was third on the team in OPS behind Ortiz and Carp. He didn't have a bad year. with that said I have wondered all along why Carp did not get more at bats. He has produced extremely well when given a chance all year.

    ====================================

Right on re: Napoli...he's in a slump as he was a couple of months ago. We don't have the luxury of waiting it out. Sit him down.

I feel Detroit after the first 6 innings sensed we were snakebitten and we ourselves didn't think we'd get a hit. Farrell should have told these guys to swing at anything close but not low balls(if there were strikes so be it) and with a couple of hits Detroit might not have felt so confident. Their 1 run lead must have seemed like 3-4 runs. But the biggest offensive blunder was in the 6th with Pedey on 2nd with 1 out and Napoli with a 2-0 count. He lets a hitter's pitch go down the middle. Ok, if next pitch was way off the plate, get a 3-1 count but it was down the middle. He ends up with a walk...big deal. Napoli was obtained to hit & to power hit the monster or over it. Why seek a walk...he's slowfooted on the bases. We needed to bring Pedey in to tie the game. So, swing the bat at all close balls that might even be balls. Scherzer, Verlander, are known strike throwers.

Sorry, but I feel Salty is a close 2nd in the strike out category but unfortunately, Gross, is not a big offensive threat either. Remember the days when V. Martinez was our catcher...wish we had kept him !

TOday's crucial game is a challenge to the much to learn yet Sox manager, the main responsible for team  " jetlagged" performance... he must sound his voice aloud, lead, outmaneuver his crafty opponent, be bold and aggresive, shakeup the tree, come up with new lineup, have Peavy ready for an early relief, dont sit Gomes, rest NapK, get Pedey out of third slot, play small ball against mighy Xcherzer....COMMAND, DONT JUST LET TEAM PLAY LIKE ROBOTS...

if necessary get thrown out of the game!...
