The win Sunday and the way we won it was huge.  Suddenly I have a much better feeling about our chances this game than I had 48 hours ago.  Any thoughts from the experts here on what the Sox need to do to win this one? Besides score at least one more run than Detroit that is!!! Embarassed

Just need Lackey to keep us close for 7 ip and get us into the Detroit bullpen which probably has very little confidence right now.

I like Gomes as much as the next guy, but I will state what I said before the Scherzer start.....it makes no sense to play him instead of Nava.....and against Verlander even less sense..he is 0-9 lifetime. In Game 2 even though he scored the winning run, it was a broken bat infield hit.....before that he was pitiful gainst the righthander...K's all three tiems....Nava has been our guy versus RHP all year, with a .411OBP and a .894 OPS.....and he is sitiing on the bench??? Intangibles are not out weighing that production...Nava is even a better Outfielder defensively.....I have been good with Farrell all year.....this goes against the way he has managed all year.....why change now?

I still do not like Drew in the line up today.   He has been an instant out all series and 5k's in 8 AB's against Verlander doesn't hold old much hope.    But hen against I guess you could say he is "due". :)

Problem with this line of thinking is Bogaerts has been no great shakes against right handers (.138 batting average, .188 on base percentage, .276 slugging and .463 OPS), albeit in a very small sample size.  Not sure Justin Verlander is exactly the kind of guy you break him in with, even with Drew struggling.

Peavy says re Verlander-slanted coverage, you'd think Sox didn't have a starter. "Ain't any part of Lackey" that doesn't think he'll win

Sox bats will be all over Verlander today. These pitchers just can't keep this rate of strikeouts going. Heres hoping Lackey can be great today for the Sox will finally provide him with some runs. LET'S GO RED SOX

How to face Verlander? ... Same as Price... Expect no walks from him, so be aggresive, bunt, play small ball, we could win inf we get to their bullpen... But lets be honest, Lackey has the key, 17 outs at least...keep us in the game !...
