All eyes should be on October!

    Good evening all.
The main focus for the Sox or Yankees is to be able to defeat the elite teams in October. The offenses are fine. But you know the cliches: 'You never have enough pitching' or 'pitching and defense win'. You're not facing the Orioles/Jays or Rays in the late fall. It will be solid teams like the Phillies or the Giants. And you better be loaded for bear in the pitching department.

One thing about the post-season is that teams can shrink their starting staff to a  4 man rotation and eliminate some of their bull-pen pitching, so the Wakefields' and Jenks' of the world don't matter. Having said that, the Sox will still need to hit because the teams they're likely to face Rangers, Yankees, and Tigers, will put some runs on the board. This isn't the NL where the offensively challenged Giants, or Phillies could make the series. The Sox with a healthy Bucholtz IMO would be the favorites to win it all.

I think it depends on the team's needs. Back in 2004 Theo had to upgrade the defense. So he traded Nomar for two former Gold Glovers, shortstop Orlando Cabrera from the Montreal Expos and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz from the Twins. Theo understood that the Sox weren't going to win the World Series without this trade.
