Aussie, you said: "he is a bust and destined to continue his mediocre Red Sox career" How can you predict what he will do during the next six years? Nobody can. Red Sox fans should hope that he does well. You sound like an upset child having a temper tantrum.

The guy has bad fundamentals, Leopards don't change their spots. He can't hit lefties and he has no plate discipline, he chases bad pitches all the time, 22 walks you have to be kidding.

Then why did he have so many great years at Tampa Bay? Why did he command such a high value on the FA market last year? Why did Cashman have dinner with him on the night that he signed?

Many believe that Cashman took Crawford to dinner in Orlando as a get together with no intention of signing him.
Once Theo got word of it he went to John Henry to get approval of $142M thinking it would top any NYY offer.

Crawford's batting vs the teams we need to beat in the Post Season ( whether we face them or not):

    Crawford vs NYY: 15G, .266 BA, 17 hits, 8 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 SB, 2 BB, 7 SO

    Crawford vs DET: 6 G,  .333 BA, 7 H, 4 R, 2 3B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 6 SO

    Crawford vs TEX: 9 G,  .294 BA, 10 H, 6 R, 2 2B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 2 BB, 10 SO

he is making 20 million per year.  The sox very upfront about how they want everyone talking to the media.

He had a bad year and I think this will be his best year if he stays here.   The sox will deal him and will be on the hook for a lot of his salary.

    Re: All you CC haters...

Crawford has hit .282 / .760 OPS since may 1.  That's in the 7th hole - bat him leadoff and he's easily .300 / .800.  Don't fool yourselves - he was brought here to replace Ellsbury and he largely can.  Ellsbury's terrific season just means we'll get more for him in the off-season.  If the 2012 Red Sox features Tim Lincecum in the starting rotation, and the run production is similar to 2011, this signing looks a lot better.

    Re: All you CC haters...

If you look at Crawford's career numbers, you'll draw a different conclusion. He's lead the league in triples four times. He's lead the league in stolen bases four times. He's a four time All-star. He's a good, safe bet, having a bad year, but I'm glad he's on the team. Over the long haul, he's the best pick-up we could've gotten.

Cashman had dinner with him but he never gave him an offer. They didn't have a spot for him anyway. If only the Yankees had signed him, the Sox would be much better off today.

I've been away today, but in answer to your question. Tampa is a pitching and defense team. The main focus has always been on out hitting them. Crawford with his 20 hr 90 rbi and 50 steals was never a problem, he and Longoria were it. Now he plays for the Red Sox a big spender, whose pitching has failed them abysmally, so now if your playing the Sox you try to out score them. Get the stiffs out, don't let them beat you. Tek , Reddick, Salty, Crawford. Concentrate on getting them out and their pitching is so bad you beat them.

They score 14 -0 win against Oakland then lose 1-0 . So they score 14 runs in two games and Oakland scores 1 and they split. Their League leading run production is useless if they don't win. They have 18 runs against The Orioles and lose 3 out of 4. Their stats are way out of line with their winning %.

What does that say? For a start they pound weak pitchers, they struggle against good pitching, they give up too many runs against good pitching, sheerly by the fact that they have Wake, Miller, Wei(whats his name) Lackey, who is so bad, he couldn't pitch in AAA. Then Lester, in case you haven't noticed , is not having his best year, and Beckett , how'd he go today? Okay but, not good enough. They have lots of problems. The Bull Pen is suspect, the manager couldn't manage  a free bar tab. When the heats on. He's great when he has the goods, less than that Tito is out of his depth. No way they get past the first round.
    Watch out for the Angels.
